I flat out disagree. The core gameplay being the same is not a bad thing at all, but having many more weapons and three new Specials makes the game more varied than the original. It also makes the game harder (try backing into a tight alleyway now - my entire team got owned by a Charger), giving back that tense feeling you had when first playing Left 4 Dead, before you realised so long as you stayed in a corner everything would work out fine.
And I'm one of those people who doesn't give a shit about graphics, so the age of the Source engine means nothing to me. I can play Tomb Raider II on my laptop and it looks pretty bad when stretched to an 18 inch widescreen but I don't let it affect the fun I have playing the game.
So basically I like it a lot.
