Just played the demo and I have to admit I wasn't all that impressed.

This is coming from a huge Valve fan, by the way.

The gameplay was nothing new, felt just like the first one with the lights turned on.

Now I know graphics are not the most important part of a game, but man Valve need to either update or replace the Source engine.

The game looks like shit.

The buildings and character models are horrible, angular last gen atrocities that would look more at home in GTA San Andreas than on a 2009 mainstream release.

Objects are blocky and have no shadows, lighting effects look dated and blurry.

The very first vista was a badly implanted endless sea with an almost blank horizon. Half Life 2 had better graphic than this.

Animations and sounds are still very good, and the guns feel about right. The characters seem a bit more interesting than the last bunch too. The music was very cool and jazzy and helped with the setting.

But all in all I found the experience pretty underwhelming and won't be forking out my cash for it.

Especially not after playing Borderlands. Aussie friends, you're not missing all that much.

Anyone love it? Hate it? Feel indifferent to it?

Edit:

I forgot to mention the best thing about it: Mike Patton rocks.

I loved every second.
It was gory, fun, and I got to blast at zombies.
Sadly, I do not have the money to spare for it, so I have to pass at this time...sigh.

And I do not know where you're finding issues with the graphics...I played it on the default settings and it still looked markedly better than the first game when I played it on high.

To be perfectly honest I really didn't like the L4D2 demo, and may well cancel my pre-order until I can play the full game elsewhere and decide on it...

The atmosphere is non-existent, the "fun-factor" just isn't there, the presentation no longer gritty and the gore childish and overdone....

I liked it a lot. Killing zombies= fun times.

My only complaint is that it took forever to download.

What's wrong with the game not being gritty? I wasn't aware that every game needed to be dark and gritty to have good atmosphere.

I completely disagree. I'm not even running the game on the highest setting and I still think it looks great. Especially the character models. Valve put a lot of detail into them.

I completely agree 110%.
I was actually quite impressed with the graphics, since the engine hasn't seen an update in years, and it holds up fairly well. It is definitely in my Top 3 list of games to buy ASAP (Borderlands, MW2, L4D2)

I think that it came up with "WINDOWS DRIVERS NOT UP TO DATE." After updating my drivers, it came up with the same message, then Steam crashed. I also think that I can't be arsed to go through to our games room to check if it's on the 360, so will someone PM me when it comes out on the PS3? I want to ensure that Hell is freezing over nicely.

They released a patch for that last night, I had the same problem, but the steam update fixed it.

"Terrible graphics"? Are you sure you and I played the same game? I played it on my 360 and I thought it looked remarkably better than the first one.

As for the gameplay, I thought it was pretty well done. I don't know why, but it actually kept me interested all the way through to the end, unlike the first one, which for some reason I can never bring myself to play anymore because I just end up becoming extremely bored.

Fucking love it to tiny fragments.

I want it so bad I'm considering getting my Xbox chipped to get it earlier. I love Ellis :)

The look is very fresh, long has it been since i played an FPS where i had real daylight without the old coffie filter.

Sure its not bring anything "new" to the table but the graphics are still great regardless of the age of source and still better then some new games, the melee weapons don't really provide an improvment but there sure as hell fun and usfull when trapped in the middle of the undead protest.

tbh i liked it

Somewhere between all the hype and all the controversy I just stopped caring about this game.

I wish that was true. Sadly, this was just over an hour ago :(

I played on the 360 and I had fun when it wasn't laggy as shit and my teammates weren't dumb as bricks.

The source engine does look outdated compare to a lot games right now(or even back 4 years ago)

I love the melee weapons and new guns are also great

Nick is my favorite character
The melee weapons looked shotty at first, but once i picked up the machete, i never looked back. I have to say i was impressed.

Although, it took me half an hour to figure out how to turn off the alarm. I mean wtf? The ladder was back around the corner, it confounded me for the longest time.

Oh and the new special infected are GREAT.

Did anyone else find the desert eagle? That was bitchin.

To be honest, I'm amazed at this - it sounds as if you have bad settings or a computer problem. Maybe you need to update your driver? Or check your settings in the L4D2 menu...

Indeed - I've loved it so far too; though I've already pre-ordered it.
