The actual design of the armour (and it does seem to be armour more then costume) is terrible. I'm going to show this to my Mum when I can and see if she can guess what they are supposed to be, she'll still remember the original Power Rangers because I was such a massive fan when I was a kid but I don't think she'll guess what these are.

The only thing that looks like the original designs is the awful mouths, I always thought they looked bad on the original costumes but they seem to have emphasised the mouths until that was the first thing I saw even before the giant boob plates.

I realize i haven't watched Power Rangers for decades but didn't the American network make the Yellow Ranger male in the butchered version they showed? Because i think they are gonna have a hard time erasing those bewbs if they want to continue the practice!
In Zyuranger, the Yellow Ranger Equivalent was a boy named...well, Boi.

In the US version, the Yellow Ranger was split between Trini and Aisha, both women.

This is why the Pink Ranger had a skirt but the Yellow Ranger did not. As a general rule, any female Super Sentai will have a skirt, but the US company sometimes adds women to the cast.
Ahh, i had it the wrong way round. That explains a lot!
I was going to say I think they should have had the yellow ranger be basically the same armour as the male rangers, just as a little nod back to the original.

Suddenly the new Ghostbusters movie isn't looking too bad ain't it
Oh yeah, it is. That trailer delivers exactly one half-decent gag -

Needless to say, the original is also WAAAAAY better.

This is still looking like a contender, though. Why the hell can't anyone do something NEW?

The mouth looks...odd. I don't mind them going for the power armour look, it's just not a great looking design.

its why CPR should only be done by trained people
off topic but no, the chances that you manage break or detach the ribs from the sternum in such a spectacular way that you kill the person right there isn't high and if their heart has stopped and they're not breathing they're fucked without intervention anyway. You don't wait for the paramedics and you keep doing CPR until the paramedics arrive and tell you to stop. Badly done CPR is better than none.

Question: Where's the fucking trailer? How can I properly judge this shit without a fucking trailer??

Other than that... uh...

Go Go Rangers Go!

Just like Voltron!

Well... I mean... How would one expect them to look? Couldn't just do the whole vinyl body suit thing again.

I would've preferred something closer to what we saw in that fan-made Power Rangers trailer, but this will do.

Was anyone really expecting the costumes to look good? Aside from the whole 'gritty hollywood re-imagining' thing, the Power Rangers costumes have always looked goofy as fuck.

One image and everyone's a critic. When are we going to learn to stop mouthing off about stuff we haven't seen yet and wait until we see the finished product before rendering a fair judgment?
I'm not going to judge the movie, but I am going to judge these costumes because they look fucking stupid.

I'll say something positive: If these were the evil versions of the Power Rangers, these outfits would be great. They're overly robotic with circuit-like lines of shiny metal and the colors are dark and somewhat washed out. And look at the blue lights on their chests; they're housed in some kind of deep cavity that clearly rules out any possibility that an intact human being could be inside of these costumes. They are grim, soulless, mechanical husks that stand as a mockery of the bright (cheesy, corny) optimism that the Power Rangers represent.

We're not lucky enough for this to be Team Doppelganger, are we?

I mean, I got a very big Psycho Rangers from these costumes. I chalk it up to the what appears to be the shape of the visors and more detailed costumes compared to most other iterations of the Rangers.

Unfortunately with how big those visors are, the personality on some of their helmets seem lost when contrasted with the original MMPR series.

I'll still go with a few people here and reserve total judgment before the trailers.

Geezus, that boob armor. I mean, it's really close to like... vacuum tight, innit? Overcompensating for the original yellow ranger being played by a guy in the suit?
I mean, I don't mind looking at them, but they seem a bit much?

If by goofy you mean amazingly cool.

I think it's funny how the boob-late distracts from the heels.

Presumably, these teenagers with attitude[footnote]Redditors?[/footnote] are still going to use martial arts?

Eh, I'm down for it.

A lot of this is riding on nostalgia for me - there are only a few PR seasons I can enjoy unironically, and MMPR certainly isn't among them. But I'm willing to give the movie a shot.

Can't say I'm a fan of these designs, though I'd like to see the suits being worn and moved around in before I really start grinding my gears. At this point however, I think the armour plated costumes from the original movie look better.

That shit does not look appealing. At all.

It looks like someone smashed together the Iron Man suit with Bayformers and added more useless shit on it.
Ah, thanks for articulating it. I was looking at the picture going 'this reminds me of the Iron man design but shittier somehow'...

I have no problem with an armor like redesign but these just don't look good.

Teeeechnically, the Pink Ranger's suit actor was a guy, too.

It's just that the acot was a stand-in for a woman in Japan, whereas Trini's was not.

Ironically, it'll probably be easier to defeat them with a punch to the chest than Zed's putties.

That's actually my problem with it, though.

MMPR is almost 100% cheese. And it's from a series that often does not take itself seriously. It had some seriously campy moments even when dealing with death. It's hard to picture this "darker, grittier, edgier" Power Rangers working, because it's so steeped in said camp/cheese. And that's both what I enjoy and what I'm most nostalgic for. It was a cheesey show with cheesey acting, cheesey effects, and cheesey music. And this is from someone who not only has several Power Rangers Redux songs on her phone, but has two right at the beginning of her top playlist for easy listening.

Is it me, or do the Pink and Yellow one have high heels?
Also, can't say why, but the helmets don't really mesh well with rest of the suits.

Yes. Upon closer inspection the Yellow and Pink rangers are, in fact, wearing heels. Somehow the costumes got a little worse. But hey, at least they ditched the skirt! Half a step forward two steps back.

MMPR is cheesy, sure, but I don't think that oblgies the movie to follow suit. I've seen Power Rangers do more serious series while retaining its identity (SPD, Dino Thunder, RPM, to list off my top three), so I'm sure the movie could find a suitable balance.
