It's the nervous boy on the internet who finds a girl that's been through some storms. Through Emails and IM's, the two get closer and closer until they fall in lurrrrve. People actually believe stuff like this
In short: It's not impossible. Just highly unlikely.

I hsve to agree with him, rather than you.bob-2000 said:You say you have met many women online, yet your statement makes me think that you have never even talked to one. They're not as rare as they think.
And not even half as special as they'd like to imagine themselves as.
And I see (or rather hear through mics) plenty of chicks on TF2.

I knew what you meant by attention whoring, and that's why I responded the way I did. Most girls I see playing WoW don't go around asking for gold. I guess it depends on the server, but mainly depends on the girl. Most girls I see playing games aren't flaunting it and whatever. That's just my experience. Apparently you've had a different one. The point remains the same, you're 80% is NOT everyone's 80%.sergnb said:Please note that when I say attention whoring I do not say actively seeking a boyfriend, I mean "I'm a girl look at me, give me gold" etc etc bullshit.sassafrasses said:That 80% does NOT speak for the other 20% of us than you very much. And that 80% is of your own personal poll. For the majority of games I've played, including WoW, only about 10% are attention whoring. The 90% don't care, they're there for the game, NOT guys. In my case, I was there for the game, NOT guys. I just happened to be harassed enough to give up my myspace link, and what happened after was NOT on my agenda. I didn't start playing WoW looking for attention, I happened to be dating a guy, and that guy got me into WoW. We werent together when I met the guy I've been talking to for the past 2 years, and I didnt go into the guild looking for a relationship or attention. So your 80% is not everyone's 80%.sergnb said:Never said a few attention whores represent the female gender. But it's just like kids on CoD, not all of cod players are kids, but as soon as one enters, he starts yelling with his squeaky voice. With females, you never notice them, untill one of them starts attention whoring. So I probably stumbled upon PLENTY of female gamers, but of those who I noticed were females, 80% were whoring.bob-2000 said:I haven't ever heard anyone sat that.sergnb said:uh I don't know what you play but I'm tired of hearing this "Randomnickname: So any girls in here besides me?"bob-2000 said:You say you have met many women online, yet your statement makes me think that you have never even talked to one. If that's not attention whoring, tell me what it is.
That being said, a few attention whores don't represent all of the female gender. Acting as though all women should bear the burden of the ego of a few fools is unfair.
And the reason that percentage is so high is because I DON'T go around asking if people are guys or girls, I just play, don't give a crap. That's the reason that when I know someone's a female is because she is purposely rubbing it in front of EVERYONE'S FACE which is, as I stated earlier, attention whoring.
I am talking about random gaming here, of course. When you get in clans and stuff the percentage lowers a lot, as you can tell if someone's female by their voice without them directly telling you.

See how your sarcasm doesn't make sense? I've seen stuff like guys on the internet harassing my sister when she plays gears of war, and I've seen it happen to other girls, so as the guy said above it is not the fault of the girls because guys make a big deal out of them.vdeity said:Why don't you grow a brain? I never said anything about meeting women online. I said I see them. I play lots of different servers and there are girls in most of them. And not only that, there really isn't a lot of noticable difference in treatment of male or female players in these servers.
OP mentioned that she was often the only one in most games who had ovaries and as a result would constantly and instantly be hounded and harassed by all the poor, sexually-deprived, testosterone-driven males in the server. My question to her is: what kind of Italian/Mexican ghetto servers are you playing on?
The problem with that is one of two things:LadyZephyr said:*el Snip*
Then I ask you, as such a female who deals with this, when you do find a male gamer harassing a female gamer, call them the fuck out. Don't let that atmosphere continue. Sitting idly by and going "yeah, it sucks, but that's the name of the game" is useless. Check your privilege and help out.
I don't think this is hopeless. Games like Mass Effect are wonderfully gender blind and when games like Brink come out male-only, they get lambasted. That's a good sign. I hope in a few years, I'll be more comfortable with this industry I love so much.

It is not solely the job of the marginalized group to make a change. I'm sorry the girl you talk to has issues with internalized misogyny, but passing the buck onto those who are being wronged is victim blaming. I'm going to do my part, as are many of my friends. I'm asking for others to lend a hand.RareDevil said:The problem with that is one of two things:LadyZephyr said:*el Snip*

I only play with a mic when playing with friends, other than that all my team mates are muted.
and two, i asked a female gamer i know her thoughts on the subject and her answer was worse than i got from any quys. She said there were certain types of female games calling them: Chunky and Shy, Chunky and boyish, Attention Whores, and "Normals" she said she had only ever met two normals. The problem here is the same as what the african american society faces. The n-word will not go away if your artists continue to use it and you continue to by it. The stereotypes of women gamers, subjection, and "good ol boy" system will not fade as long as the female gamers continue to view other female gamers with "male" mind sets.
I wont gaming to be a-sexual. To exist with out stigma and sexism, but unless we consciously make a change as a whole, not just expecting guy gamers to change, then there will not be an equality. Lets do away with male and female gamers, and just be gamers.
