I feel obligated to post this relevant (and amusing) video:

OT: I am a guy, so no.

9 pages of comments and I don't know if anyone has said this, but that fellow sounded like he had some mental problems. Possibly speech ones as well. Of course I can't tell from a Youtube video, but it's quite pitiful sounding. Sure, it was entertaining at first but then... yeah. I feel sad for the fellow, he seems to have no idea how to talk to anyone, much less girls.

OP: I guess I might as well say something. Firstly, I'm a fellow. Secondly, I can talk to girls just fine. Thirdly, I'm mainly a single player gamer but I still like to play online a fair bit. Fourthly, back in my Halo 3 playing days I did meet an Xbox Live friend who happened to be female. And she was, well, an Xbox Live friend. Just like my other Xbox Live friends. I played games with her and viewed her just like my male friends. Is that really so hard to do? She stopped coming online a bit after that and I guess she deleted all of her Xbox Live stuff, possibly for this very reason.
it's been posted... but yeah, someone might not want to sort through all the pages and might miss it

I know what you mean OP. I never use my mic when I'm playing multiplayer games with unfamiliar people now because it can get ridiculous quite quick. Mostly it was just guys expressing their shock over the fact I was a female and then proceeding to ask me where I live, my age, what I'm wearing etc. etc. Although that was nothing compared to when someone would make a statement about how females suck at video games and I should quit the match. No joke, I had some guy stand there and spam me to leave while he repeatedly got his rear handed to him because he was too busy cussing me out.

Back when I played WoW if I joined a guild with unfamiliar people I also tended to wait until I had befriended a few before speaking over ventrilo. Call me paranoid, but it's amazing how.... foolish... some people can get when it hits home you're of a different gender.

It really sucks sometimes. I'd love to be able to play some L4D realism and instantly call out when I'm being smoker pulled.

Edit: I actually have a female friend who plays L4D games with a mic. She's an absolutely amazing player and because of that usually has loads of friends that she can run with instead of having to join public games. The odd time we have done a public match and she's spoken guys instantly get all creepy with her. She takes it in stride though, such a champ.

I think you misunderstood me a bit. I only break out the boyfriend card when it's really, REALLY obvious he's hitting on me and he will not give up. When "Yeah, you're so funny but I've heard enough" doesn't work, that is the only time I use "I'm taken so please shut up." You know, for the ones who deserve a little salt in their wounds for not taking the hint.

no offense but as a female you know how much easier it is to find a boyfriend rather than the vice versa? blah blah sexist crap aside it's 100x easier for a girl to get a boyfriend than a guy to get a girlfriend, and when it comes to gamer guys they'd rather find a girl they are comfortable with, a.k.a. a gamer girl, therefore they see one online why not take a shot? it's anonymous and in the off chance she says yes he has a chance at love, if not he goes back to enjoying his game, seems pretty logical to me

now i don't do that, but i'm just saying following the logical steps as a guy, i can understand it well enough as to why it happens.
You know how there are some asshole guys who don't give a toss about anyone they're with, but get all the girls anyway, and then there are guys who genuinely care but are alone, and everything in between?
It turns out, it's pretty much the same with girls.
all the skanks you mean? (guys are skanks too, i'm not being sexist) but my point is go through time itself, and guys have always fought over women, constantly, thats how its been forever, and yeah times are a changing, but thats still a basic instinct (among straight males at least)

now yes this is generalizing but that is how alot of male gamers think, and like i was saying its really a no lose scenario because of the online shroud of being anonymous so that's also a reason why alot of guys do it, if they can find a semi gamer girlfriend then you bet your silly ass they will give it a shot.

I met my girlfriend playing an online game. Granted I never really "hit on her" persay, we just became really close friends over time and then decided to go the next step.

If you're a guy, and all you do is play video games, your sex drive goes through roof. Then you have a conversation similar to one I heard while playing Left 4 Dead:

Guy: Are you a girl?
Girl: Yeah, why?
Guy: I was wondering if I could ?
Me: (Is he serious or trolling?)

Trust me when I say you don't want to know what he said 8l

...But I do. I do want to know.

Then I can picture him doing it to Mordin. And be disgusted, horrified, and slightly intrigued by the whole situation.

No, I'm sorry, forget this ever happened.

Pfft, you ladies should be grateful that guys give you the time of day when they can't even see if you're pretty or not. You lot should take such advances as compliments, not get offended over flirtation attempts.

If you have functioning lady parts, then I'm sure that 'pretty' doesn't even factor into the equation. That's what they invented brown paper bags for!

Also, I would imagine that it's difficult to take 'TITS OR GTFO. GET BACK TO THE KITCHEN AND MAKE ME A SAMMICH. THEN SUCK MY COCK AS I EAT IT' as 'flirtation'.

Only real time was when i actually had a internet relationship and when i made a comment during a Horror Game Lp that I was so scared I hurt my boob grabbing something to hold. (>> Got a lot of weird comments because of that little mistake and it's my most thumbed up comment ever)

and this time I mentioned I liked thick eyebrowed men with hairy legs that were geeky.

Otherwise the only time I have been hit on is when I'm playing one of my guy characters. It's actually kind of sad that my fictional male characters get more action in the being hit on department than i do. >>

I find transgirls really pretty but they are so damn rare, so I tend to flirt with her as soon as we meet, lol. Good thing they are usually super nice ^^

...Eh? I have a semi-thick (Not noticeable)unibrow, have really hairy legs, and am extremely geeky. But if you don't mind me asking...what's attractive about that? I mean, damn, I'm ugly...and I'll even admit that I'm ugly. (Pretty much specifically because of those things. Also my chin. But my rockin' beard hides that from the masses. Well, geeky isn't exactly a physical attribute, I guess. Still...)

Who hits on your male characters, though? Other men? Women? The distinction is important.

Edit: I re-read what I'd posted, aaaand...I'd just like to clarify: I'm not asking like 'HOW COULD YOU LIKE SOMETHING LIKE THAT? IT'S SO UGLY LIKE OH EM GEE!'. I'm genuinely curious. Most people don't find those attributes to be attractive. At least, as far as I know. I might be wrong.

Ladies: Meeting a nice girl who games online is to dudes what meeting a nice guy who happens to be the prince of something is to you.

every dude wants it but most of us know it will never happen. lets be honest dudes: female gamers, being so incredibly desirable, can have nearly any dude she wants online. why in the world would she want you? (or me for that matter).

That was your own fault though, nobody can resist Ellen Page. :3
Who?
I'm serious; who is that?
A very charming Canadian actress. :)
Oh right; the lady who played Juno. Seeing performance in that waste of film allows me to easily resist her.

...Thanks for that. No, really, it's not like I planned on not crying myself to sleep tonight. I already do that every night.

If it helps, you can think of it like a free lottery. Sure, chances are that you won't even come close to scoring...but since it doesn't cost anything to try, why not toss your lot into the competition? At least you have a 0.000001% chance of winning big as opposed to the 0%.

That guy has to be trolling. That can't be real. Holy crap. I love that guy that comes in at the middle and is like "Whoa, what's going on here?"

Funniest stuff I have seen all day.

But yeah, I actually conducted a social experiment with some of my classmates in psychology. I pretended to be a 12 year old girl, another guy pretended to be a 15 year old girl, and a third pretended to be a 25 year old girl, with the actual girls among us recording results. The 15 year old got the most sincere proposals for a date after a 1 month period, but I got what we dubbed "th most creepifying responses." It was on tf2 by the way. Some REALLY creepy dudes out there.

So, fellow ladies, how often do you find this happening? Not being teased or trolled for being a female on the Internets, but being creeped and hit on, by completely straight-faced guys?
I'm kind of a flirt online, and I've had several guys not only hit on me, but (after frequent encounters) decide they love me and start stalking me.

I am not kidding.

It almost makes me reconsider flirting. Almost.
I'm in the same boat, although I usually drop the "Oh, but my boyfriend AND girlfriend don't really like guys talking to me like that, so..."
Although recently, girlfriend and I broke up, so I'll have to amend the statement...
