Looks kinda like Jessica Alba.
Yes.

Lets wait until we see what the waist-breast proportion is like before we start calling her new image 'realistic.'

Honestly, they already did that with Legends. Okay, so they retconned Anniversary to fit in better with it, but SHE'S ALREADY HAD AN IMAGE CHANGE.

More importantly, Legends got rid of the clunky old control system and turned it into something practical and, God forbid, actually fun to play.

Not sure what the hell went wrong with Underworld, I still haven't played it yet.
Underworld was alright it would have been the best CD tomb raider game but for the complete lack of unlockable stuff like the cheats and time trials stuff from Anniversary really suggests to me that they had to ship it before it was finished.

The controls were still clunky, improved certainly but it still felt like playing a very old game, getting rid of the bosses and giving lara some scuba gear side stepped a lot of things that always displayed how poor the controls of the games are.

Combat remained the same joke it has always been you either stand on a platform the enemies can't reach, autotarget until they die, or if the ground is flat back/side flip like crazy while waiting for the enemies to die from autotargeting.

Really dull you would think after ten games they would have worked out that nobody plays tomb raider to shoot tigers.

Level design was by far the best of the series, Scuba gear created the oppertunity for underwater areas that looked impressive rather than frantic death traps, No ammo pickups made more sence how many Incas had shotgun shells.

I have high hopes for the series after seeing Guardian of light, the willingness to do something different with a series that has never actually had an outstanding title and constantly makes the same mistakes as the orginal games.

PS2 PoP trillogy, assassins creed, uncharted, mirror's edge, none are directly comparable but they have all take an aspect of TR and done it better.

I still remember when they changed her appearance to be more "correct".

It blew up in their faces; Especially with female fans.

It seems the larger portion of the female fan-base liked the way she looked and some REALLY liked they she looked! (0)(0)

I say... If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Lara was never the problem she was the only thing keeping the series going, should have been obvious considering how basically no other videogame character has achieved the same place in the wider culture as she did, aside from Mario, certainly not Samus or Chun Li

The Tomb Raider trilogy has been fucked up beyond all repair for years. Making Lara Croft look like rejected concept art from Uncharted is only going to make her appear in a different flavor of DeviantART fan made porn.

She looks more beautiful in this picture than just the normal hot-sexy combo.
Feels like she has more of a personality here.

Might be too strong a reaction; but that's not Lara Croft.

Lara is smooth, calm, cool, collected. Always well presented and in control. It looks like they're leaning towards a much grimmer down and dirty action hero which just doesn't fit her previous image.

Why not call it something else if they're making a different game and don't try and cash in on our memories of Tomb Raider?
I agree completely. That's just not Lara. It might be Laura Croft, but it certainly isn't Lara.

I love Tomb Raider (and yes, I was one of the few people who enjoyed Angel of Darkness).
I do love Lara, but AoD was shite imho.

Kinda looks like badass I'd say!!! GO Lara kick some ass Girl. Lets bring back some T-Rexs from the first game they were so fulfilling to kill!!!
Yea, it looks like she might actually be capable of making a comeback (I think her new look is MORE attractive than before, cuz I'm just sick like that.)

Not that looks is all she has going for her...

Also, I like that you mentioned the T-rexes, because when I think back to the old Tomb Raider, I always remember the T-rex valley warmly.

Aww, how could anyone destroy her pretty face?
Pretty? PRETTY?!

It looked like she was wearing a shrinkwrap mask around her face, and a ridiculous ponytail. And, at the risk of sounding even more effiminate: what was the deal with her cheek bones?

Hopefully they're ditching the sickly green-ish tube top as well.

That doesn't look like Lara Croft, so how is this Tomb Raider?

Maybe they want to start a new IP with this new chic, and then slap the "Tomb Raider" name on it in order to sell copies and get headlines.

This Lara is an untested 21 year old girl fresh from college. From a moneyed background. Who hasn't had to work a day in her life. The fact that they're having the character grow from a sniveling coward into the Croft I know and love is a major selling point for me, at least.

No, also I hate reboots. If a franchise has reached the point where they need to do that, it's time to bring it to an end, PERMANENTLY. ...well maybe resurrect it again in like 20 years or something, but at least lay it to rest for a bit.

Exactly! I think this one will explain how she got her ice cool demenour, athletic prowess and proficiency with firearms.
