With regards to all of the bizarreness of MW2: it's set in a parallel universe. Therefore the writers can do whatever the hell they want.

How the hell did they build Rapture, and second, how the hell did nobody notice? Seriously, it's an enormous city under the sea - that would take years to build (and apparently it was built prior to or around the 50s, and therefore building something like that is pretty much impossible) and millions upon millions of dollars. And apparently it's in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean - how would you get the building supplies out there? It doesn't affect Bioshock in anyway, it's just something I've always wondered.
I read the string of comments attached to this post and have a couple thoughts. Firstly, I don't think this is a plot hole. Because the method of Rapture's creation does not really affect the game or it's plot, it isn't a plot hole. I think this is just an instance where its origins were never meant to be explained, and as a player we are intended to just accept the fact that Rapture exists.

That being said, Keep in mind that the people of Rapture were some of the worlds best and brightest, so who's to say they hadn't devised some way to construct a city like Rapture. Sure, the time period is 1950's era, but that doesn't mean that such a construction would be impossible because of the time period. Laser technology was just as possible 200 years ago as it is now, it's just a matter of someone figuring out how it works.

As for my theory on how it would be done, I think it would start out much like the construction of the International Space Station. They'd have to start with the Bathysphere chamber, then build out from that.

Not really a plot hole, but in most games i wonder how things got there with so little resources, like in Fallout 3, how the hell did they get all those pipes into project purity? Or how long did it take to build black mesa in the first place?
With FO3, keep in mind that they had the help of the Brotherhood, who would probably be able to rig up some method of hooking up the pipes. As for where they found them, the entire city was pretty much reduced to scrap metal, so it most likely wouldn't be too hard to find the pipes.

no here's a good plothole if you're going to bring up the mario series: How is it that Bowser's size always changes? hell in the old 8-bit games him and mario were almost the same size, in mario 64/galaxy he was HUGE and in the smash bros. series he's in the middle, i mean what gives? does he go off and on steroids or what?

The only one that comes to mind right now is the VIP from Modern Warfare 2--it was an interesting lead-up, but once you found the guy dead there was nothing else beyond that. Surely Activision could have done something more with that?

Unless it's fodder for Modern Warfare 3 . . . sneaky bastards . . .

Yes, I get what you're saying, but the whole thing requires a MASSIVE suspension of disbelief - even if they were the smartest people in the world, overcoming the technical nightmare that is building a massive city under tens of thousands of gallons of water (without anybody finding out, mind you) is something that is so far beyond anybody even today. Even if it is POSSIBLE, it would be a fucking nightmare to execute and would take far too long to make it a viable idea. I understand your space station comparison, but we're talking about a freaking CITY here.

Secondly, yes it is a plot hole. It's not an extremely RELEVANT plot hole with regards to the central storyline, but it is part of the overarching storyline, which is the story of this man (Andrew Ryan) who, in his very objectivist manner, went and built this fantastic underwater city where people wouldn't have to face the restraints of everyday society. So how did he build it, eh? See, plot hole.

Plot hole/mystery at the end of Assassin's Creed II
Why didn't the templar guards with Vidic use guns? I thought in the future they would have advanced past what's essentially sticks.
I think that they were under orders from Vidic to
Detain Desmond, Lucy, and those other two, aswell as capture Animus 2.0. would make more sense, cause what if in the 900 or so years between Altair,
Who has unlocked secrets from the Apple
and now that there would have been someone who had beaten them to the punch, maybe even some of Altair's assassin spawn.

I heard that the use of Sunder and Keening from Morrowind weakened the barriers. That and Menkar had essentially left Tamriel altogether to create Paradise, so his mobile connection to Mehrunes would have been a lot clearer.

In Republic Commando on one of the levels you are on a captured republic ship. There is this
whole thing in the level about a jamming device so you can't communicate with your advisor. But
then like halfway through the level he starts yelling at me to heal my teammate after he went around the corner while I was healing and got shot. wtf?

How no one in the UN had anything to say against Russia invading the US. Or despite there being a few other dead terrorits in "No Russian" everything was blamed on the American. Because the guy was American, it is isntantly assumed he did it all himself despite the security cameras being able to easily get a shot to identify everyone else.

Anything that bothers me is in Uncharted 2, why couldn't Drake finish off the bad guy when he was able to murder all of his friends and make jokes while doing it?

Because that would make the game less dramatic

Liquid disables all the guns using the Patriots thing while he is surrounded by the military. That means all the guns don't work except for SNAKE'S UNMARKED PISTOL.

WHY DIDN'T HE SHOOT HIM OR GIVE THE PISTOL TO SOMEONE ELSE?
You know I can write an entire article with what I found screwy about MGS4s story but I just don't have the patience or will to do so...=(

"Shinra is trying to blast the Meteor into bits! We must stop them quick!"

What?
When that news first reached the PCs, someone made a comment about how the Huge Materia should be used "properly" (ie: for the special abilities and magic) rather then being slammed into the Meteor, which I always found ironic considering how I never had the patience to get the Master Materias when Knights of the Round and Mime was enough to severely weaken Sephiroph in the last battle.

Final Fantasy 7 (thats the Squall one right?). Global communications are non-functional and are repaired by screwing around with a radar dish. It took them 10 years to figure this out...10 YEARS TO FIGURE OUT THEY NEED TO FIX SOMETHING IN ORDER FOR IT TO WORK, oh yet they happen to maintain the giant televisions in the major cities JUST IN CASE someone gets it working...

This is somewhat of a plot hole.

In the first Resident Evil for PS1, the canon is that everyone makes it out alive (Jill, Barry, Rebecca, etc.) but there is no way to actually do this in game. You won't even meet everybody.

I still want an explanation for this. Also which goddamn side of the story is correct? Jill or Chris's. Because they could not have happened in parallel to each other so which one is right?

MW2 is one big Plot Hole.

1. How come an ACS Module falls over Russia?
2. How come a Military Defense Satellite has a code to disable all of the Satellites in America?
3. How come none of the movement in Russia was undetected?
4. How come none of the movement in Russia was not sent by phone to Youtube or something, instantly alerting the United States?
5. How does a Nuclear Missile only cause an EMP Shockwave, with no Nuclear Devestation?
6. How does an EMP Shockwave from a Nuclear Missile cover the entire United States?
7. How does a Devestation Wave only travel up from the missile?
8. How do you detonate a Ground-to-ground ICBM Missile in midair?
9. Why does Russia drop people on suburban homes and make it really defended?
10. Why isn't at least half of Russia's infantry decimated by gun carrying US Citizens?
11. Who the hell are you transporting on the one defensive mission in the beginning?
12. Why does Predator missiles in the second mission you have them have a reload time?
13. Why do Nuclear Missiles end the game in your favor online?
14. How does a 150-300lb person carry a 1000lb (considering ammo amount) Turret which auto-tracks with no Run Speed decline?
15. How does slicing a man in the backpack constitute an instant kill?
16. On the Terrorist Mission, if this guy is so bad, why don't we kill the guy while we have guns and we're behind the guy?
17. How can you survive a 150-lb bomb from a Stealth Bomber with a small enclosure, but the wall fails to stop 2 inch bullets?
18. Why the hell are you going from one place to another in the first US Mission?
19. How do pipes suddenly fix themselves after they have been shooting hot burning air?
20. After 30 seconds of leaking Propane, why doesn't a single spark light up everything in a 30ft radius? How about 2 minutes, why isn't everything within 120ft burning to a crisp?
21. How the hell would you invent a Heartbeat Sensor?
22. Why can enemies follow you if they are within 30 ft, behind walls, up stairs, around corners, etc. easily, but cannot follow you if they are outside of 120ft, even if they have been watching you the entire time?
23. How do the Thermal Visions work in the Desert? If it's 98.6 Degrees outside, and the human body is 98.6 Degrees, wouldn't you see nothing?
24. How do you carry dual shotguns with no recoil?
25. How can you carry dual machine guns with no recoil?
26. How can you pump a pump shotgun when both hands are taken?

well I think the game wants you to assume that the Russian terrorist guy is just really smart and like to start wars so he let the American do some killing.
Also if an American started killing a airport full of people in my country without being provoked then I'd be pretty pissed, probably not pissed enough to attack one of the biggest military super powers on earth but still pretty pissed.
I still kind of wonder why Shepherd went on his weird "shoot you then set you on fire" thing though it probably falls under the same reasons that some folks think 911 happend

No, it's not a plot hole. A plot hole is defined as (by Wikipedia or TvTropes, take your pic) as gap in established logic in the story, or omission of essential information.

The fact that Ryan was badass enough to build Rapture is the whole POINT of the story. It's the impossible thing that you're asked to believe that they then hang the rest of the game on. It's like the Force, the mutant X gene, the magic Island, the spice, the ring shaped superweapons.

It got built, secretly, in the 50s, because Ryan is just THAT GOOD.
