Ergh, yep, I just pulled something in my brain. Once again, I find myself astounded at what conservatives on the internet will blurt out unprovoked.
Well either that, or one of those self-styled "independents" that make a great example of what conservatives claim is the logical end of re-enactment of the Fairness Doctrine: people saying whatever fool thing enters their heads to look politically aware and "balanced".

Yeah. That is pretty much the stereotype gamers will forever live with. But that looked a little over the top though.

Eh... hate to break it to you, people like that exist... whats everyone getting angry about? It's not like they are saying every gamer is like that.

Honestly - if someone created a character for film that has some kind of similarity to you (in this case: they play games) why does everyone immediately think the writers are saying everyone who has this attribute has all the OTHER attributes (obsession/addiction, overweight, doesnt wash, child abuse, etc) as the character?

This complaint is the same as a black person claiming that because there is a black gangster in a movie shooting a bunch of people that the writers are saying ALL black people are gangsters. This is obviously incorrect - however there ARE black people on this planet who are in gangs and who commit crimes such as murder. Thus it is not wrong of the writers to use such a character.

So yeah. Calm down. It's just a TV show.

:/ they did this with everything good.

Skimpy clothing? "THE DEVILS WORK!"
heavy/death metal? "THE DEVILS MUSIC!"
D&D? "THE DEVILS WORSHIPING GAME!"

Its only natural they go after the latest for of entertainment, as they always have.

Infact, teen crime rates have gone down since videogaming became mainsteam.

The writer has never played a game ever in his life. If he has, he's maybe played ten seconds of Pac Man. Gamers do not talk like this, gamers do not act like this, this is nothing but playing to American societies irrational hatred and fear of games. Portraying gamers as pathetic people just secures more ratings for their show and gives the haters something to point at when they talk about how bad games are.

Makes me glad I live in Australia, where this stereotype doesn't exist. If you play games here, no-one cares, it's just what you and milions of other people do for entertainment. If we can just solve our rating system woes, we'll be all set.

Actually, I would believe that there really are people that messed up and obsessed withe the Internet and gaming. ...not that it represents the norm, mind you.
People like that tend to suffer from an addictive personality. Any kind of consistent reward based system like video games, drugs (in addition to inherent addictiveness) or even exercise will latch on to something and pursue it to the nth degree.

Obviously this is a complex marketing plot by Sony, using the "rumor mongor" fellow, to seed hatred towards Law and Order, promoting togetherness amongst gamers, and ensuring that the Xbox 360 exclusive Law and Order game fails miserably.

How miserably?

You haven't even heard of it.

Well played, Sony.

"Ever-Earth"?

Oh...I see what you did there.

I really don't understand why shows like this are so popular:

They have unlikable one-note characters, ridiculously awful writing, plots that don't make sence, they stereotype everyone/thing, and they try to make almost every episode a social commentary about almost anything (From racism to cleptomania; To War to homosexuality). But instead of doing what a "good" social commentary (as in sticking to one subject and building on it), these shows do the opposite and focus on like three or four at a time and all just comes together like a brain sponge pancake cluster fuck.

Seriously, it just boggles my mind that from 1992 to today, we Americans still havn't made a crime-drama TV series as deep, engaging, realistic, gritty, and just all around amazing as Prime Suspect [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Xs122nMt7A](Warning: Mature Content)

ok... seriously I was watching bones last night where they were autopsying a dead soldier, somehow it turned into a justification of the iraq war, and it was made by fox... ever noticed how these shows like to slip their messages in?!

Uhm, are you talking about that 'gamergate episode' that just aired or about that episode from 4+ years ago?

(Either way: screw (topical) L&O:SVU. Criminal Minds still has the best geeks.)

The computer wizardry in Criminal Minds is pretty silly, though. Garcia seems to have access to every database ever, as well as possessing the ability to bring up everything pertaining to a member of the public's personal history at the touch of a button. She's like the NSA.

At least in SVU, they're limited by semi-realistic computer technology.

EDIT: Wait, this thread is five years old?!

True, L&O does stay close to real technology (even though they don't always seem to know how that technology actually works...). But I have to admit I don't mind the magic database very much since it's only there to move the plot along at a steady pace. It doesn't take the spotlight like some of the bullshit tech in CSI.
