I love law and order, especially SVU.
While I'm a little offended, I overall don't care. The plot point was that she didn't know she HAD a kid due to a brain injury.

Did I watch that episode, hell yeah I did.

I love that B.D. Wong's job on the show is to make up fake mental disorders. I think that's great.

Ok. I've had to say this twice today. But fuck it. Let's do a little thought experiment. Let's say you, yes, you. Were making a tv show, or a movie, not too unrealistic, people make indie films all the time. And you wanted a character in it to be playing a video game, again, not too unrealistic. You go to Activision's marketing department, ask "can we show WoW" or "can we should CoD" in our show. It's about people who play too many video games", they'll either say "go forth and multiply" or "yes, we appreciate all forms of publicity, but we need $500,000", alternatively, you pay your special effects team and writers their normal salary to make something up. It looks like something from 10 years ago because they simply aren't game designers.

Also, that's a real brain condition. You know, for those of you who say it's fake, you're basically spitting in the faces of the people who have to cope with being calling an imposter by a loved one. That's not a very nice thing to do.

It's a TV show. Seriously, why are we insisting that our entertainment display some wierd kind of close-minded insight into things. Guess what: Most gamers aren't like this at all, but you know what? Some are, so it's not so bad for a show in one episode to have a bad example of us. Deal with it.
We gamers know that "Gamers" being represented in this show are a blatant stereotype vaguely based on extremely rare cases.

Unfortunately, most dumb-shit people watching the show will look at that show and think "Yup, that's Gamers in a nutshell alright!"

"I could quit anytime I want to!"
Lol
"Ok, pause the game!"
Lolololo.
"I haven't had sex in like 6 months!"
TROLOLOLOLOLO!

I actually couldn't stop laughing and the show is supposed to be serious.
But of course there are the people who watch this show who think it will apply to most gamers.
'Cause after all, if it's on tv IT MUST BE TRUE.

Yeah I saw this the other week and thought it was hilarious. Except for the rape part.

The co-producers name is Speed Weed?

That is the best drug-dealer name I've ever heard. He needs to change careers.
Speed Weed, agreed.

OT: "Pause the game?"...really? Was this episode written by Micheal Atkinson or something? Playing too many videogames makes you:

*A rapist

*Sexless

*Obese

*Unhygienic

It's not the worst I've seen though:

At first I thought this was just going to be the usual gamer stereotype. For the most part it is, but I can't shake the feeling it was supposed to be 'social commentary.' A little bit of it seemed funny, but I cringed through most of it thinking it's intended to be serious.

I'd really hate to prove somebody's point by writing angry e-mails or whatever the expected response is, but this is just sad.

Easily one of my favorite shows. Law & Order is known to use real life events as inspiration with waning degrees of over dramatization or fictional additions. In the episode you provided they were basing it upon the instance a some time ago where two parents behaved in a similar manner. Their two children were found neglected, malnourished and the daughter was in severe damage of starvation should my memory serve. Had you continued, the episode deviates entirely from video games and towards the mother, who suffered from a rare side effect, subsequent to being hit by a bus, which resulted in the loss of her ability to acknowledge her daughter as her's. Hence, the rationale for her ignoring her. While she knew it was her daughter's voice, upon seeing her, her brain somehow was convinced she was an 'evil twin', perplexing as this may sound.

So video games were removed completely. Law & Order rarely offered a direct negative opinion toward any specific subject, and in the event an episode does, one or more of the characters will defend the accused topic in some capacity. I recall one episode where Dr. Wong outright denied video games contributed to criminal behavior as a primary.

Perhaps people should watch the show before presuming it spews nonsense. One of the few quality shows on television nowadays.

Well he ain't actually a rapist, they all assume he is one, but in the end its actually a guy who lead mob in witch hunt against pedophile and tried to hit on some detective

Although sexless, obese, Unhygienic part.....hum....maybe not that bad but doesn't really help :D

I know the episode is "inspired" by real instances of people becoming so addicted to games that they forgot about things like they're children, but this just shows how little respect there really is for the gaming industry.
"This is level 20!! This is the kingdom of Galgamar!!!" Whoever wrote this has obviously never actually played a game in their life and is writing this based on what little they've heard about them.
I can't watch it right now, as there are noise restrictions (people sleeping right next to me), but it SOUNDS as bad as Tom Hanks's freakout sessions in Mazes and Monsters
This is worse, that at least had Tom Hanks in it. But yeah, it's not far off.

Why don't you make inferences fur friend? Do all furries have to first ask their hive mind whether it insults (as another poster put it) their "collective persecution complex?"
First of all, I'm not a furry. And second of all, that is without a doubt one of the most bigoted and ignorant things I've ever heard on this website. Saying you want furries wiped from the earth for no other reason than they happen to like a certain subculture? There's something seriously wrong with you as a person if you genuinely believe that.
I don't want to drag this on because I can never precisely state how I feel and it is off topic. But I'll give you the benefit, and reply.

Did I ever say it was because furries belong to a certain subculture? Did I ever precisely call you a furry? Am I even serious with my original statement? No. It's because of overly sensitive reactions such as this, that gets under the skin of the internet.

I don't get take it to the gut or get butthurt when someone disapproves of my fetish of thigh high socks or orthodontic braces. Those things don't define me, I don't mind the insults. It's not like a sexual orientation, gender, religion, or race. Furry fandom is a subculture and paraphilia - nothing more.

There are subcultures and fetishes that I find much more disturbing. Infantilism, corophilia, voraphilia. But none of the practitioners who get turned on by that, seem to get as defensive as furries. The reason the internet doesn't target other groups as much as furries, is because other groups don't make themselves as big a target. Furries and fur allies aren't targeted because others find them disgusting, it's because of the self pitying persecution complex.

Gamers should take note and become less reactionary in media portrayals, it only feeds instigators like Fox News. However we should become more involved when legislation is on the table instead of spending all day complaining on forums.
I can understand this, but the thing is, Furries actually have been targeted more then those groups by the media and such, because if people knew people actually had fetishes like that people would flip shit. It's one of those things were people are like "I don't want to believe it, so it doesn't happen." And although furries are too sensitive most of the time, they have an actual reason most of the time because most people's instant reaction is like your original statement.
