However, its main sins are:
PLAYERS WHO SPEND MORE TIME GET AN ADVANTAGE
PAYING MONEY GIVES YOU AN ADVANTAGE
You can spend little time at all and get many advantages, Ie, champions if you pay. I like this system. If you don't want to pay for your champions, you'll still have to work for them.

People who do spend more time earned their advantage, (even though really, having a nice variety of cheaper champions works wonders). The only thing you must pay for is skins, which are just visual changes.

Remember, the people at riot games need to eat too.

Considering DotA required a Dwarf Fortress like learning curve but wasn't nearly as fun, I'll pass, thanks.
Forgot to mention that, you're ranked with similar skilled players, so your opponents learn as you learn. ie. a nice learning curve.
\

New accounts allow players to troll newbies, it's been happening a lot recently.

That may be true, but if they are actually destroying less experienced players, they'll quickly be shot up in rank and again fight similarly skilled players.

Lolwut? Not even nearly. What has the world come to when DotA is considered to have a ridiculous learning curve? I mean really, if you think that's tough, try playing the core game on which that mod is based upon. You know, where you have to control more than one unit. DotA and its clones are fun, but I wouldn't exactly call them complex.
Say what you want, I put more effort into trying to figure out DotA than I did DF, and at the end of that week of reading over a million strategies and a novel on class mechanics and playing some games and whatnot, I came to the conclusion it was just a mediocre overly complex multiplayer mod with an absolutely horrible community.

I hope everyone realizes that the OP mainly posted this here so he gets a few "refferals" to his account for people signing up using that link and rewards... it's been happening all around the net and I don't know if it was the brightest thing to do by RIOT as it's usually more annoying than helpful xD
I hope you realise your post is incredibly ignorant. If you'd read the post I'm trying to get more 'scapists into the game, and to play with more of you. But of course, there's always one who tries to find the negative things.

I'm a devoted DotA player.

LoL had so many terrible design choices. Bushes don't replace juking, denying is important, as is mana management. LoL removes most of the skill from DotA. Also, given its casual nature, most of the players are incredibly unexperience, i.e. running into tower range and dying or attempting a 3v1. Of course, that's my opinion and I can imagine that this is not an issue for everyone.

However, its main sins are:
PLAYERS WHO SPEND MORE TIME GET AN ADVANTAGE
PAYING MONEY GIVES YOU AN ADVANTAGE
These two attributes are unforgivable in _any_ competitive online game.

Finally, you have a limited selection of heroes- around 10 at any given time compared to DotAs 100+.
I really don't know why but, you're either talking about another game or got the facts really messed up. Im not getting defensive at all but really 10 champs?Let me check...ok 72 up to date.

Players who spend more time get an advantage? I actually have no idea what it means, for a second I thought you mean real money bot that's for skins. As for skill yes some champ need alot of time to get good. Same thing no idea what advantage can you have from a skin.

Runes are indeed a must put you get those by playing games and it's not a big deal until lvl 30 since wasting IP on tier 1 or tier 2 runes is indeed a waste.

The thing why I stoped playing DOTA and only tried HoN is pretty much that, runes+masteries actually matter and it gives that flexibility you didn't had before. A good rune page + masteries mean pretty much as starting with a t2 item.

But then again maybe I'm biased ,still facts are LoL is getting pretty solid in the esports comunity IEM and WCG this year is as big as you can start. Just saying the IEM stream in Hannover had 15k people on which is almost as SC2 had.

I'm actually a frequent LoL player. I really do enjoy it, though I will agree with a number of the folks here saying that the community is horrid.

Though, while it is a fun game, I do have to say that I think Riot is one of the least professional companies I've ever seen. Great game, but the way in which they manage it is... Atrocious.

Aside from that, I enjoy LoL quite a bit, and despite my undying hate for Riot, I have purchased a fair amount of content from them (skins for champions). As much as I rip on Riot, they have me in a choke hold, like Blizzard and that damn World of Warcraft (though I catually like Blizzard). As much as I want to break free, I just can't.

May be we could play sometime. :)
^ This, as well. If some of you folks here on the Escapist want to play together some time, I'd be up for it. Can't promise I'll be good, but I'd definitely play.

The community is too rabbid. There is a large different between playing Bots and other people in a competition like manner. I have seen FPS game like Counter-Strike be more tolerant to newbies and even try to help them, LoL takes to great lengths in being not-friendly-to-people-who-even-use-the-wrong-hotkey-by-mistake.

Nice game, but wild community.
Did you know that there is actually a report option for 'Unskilled player' in LoL?

I remember a friend of mine telling me about this (I only played for about a week before giving up) and upto this day, I cannot believe it. Still not sure if it's a joke or not...

I guess it's possible they put it in there so that all the probable thousands of reports they get through about bad players can all be instantly ignored if it comes through under that reason.

Ahh, elitism at it's finest. We PC gamers still got it.

Sir, I don't mean to be rude, but I really don't feel like you read my post.

I said that a one only has access to 10 or so heroes at a time, unless they are willing to pay money. I know that it is possible to unlock more using the points you earn from playing games, but that takes a godawfully long time. In dota, you have access to 100+ heros instantly.

You contradict yourself. Apparently, runes and masteries = a t2 item. Runes and masteries come from playing many games. Therefore, playing many games gives you an advantage.

Then you mention IP, which is purchased money. I also mentioned that a game which allows you to purchase advantage is bad.

Again, you mention that runes and masteries (which are acquired by playing or paying) influence the game.

Finally, popularity has nothing to do with this argument.
