I have a theory that it's not so much an anti COLETTE fandom as it is a "pro-everyone else" fandom. The game's creator is... BIASED toward Colette in a large number of ways. Though we do get alternate endings, they're just short little scenes before a big HEY IT'S REALLY COLETTE finish. The creator stated in interviews that she's canon and declared the terrible manga to be the canon events of the game. Basically she's just SHOVED IN OUR FACE ALL THE DAMN TIME. It makes the alternate paths almost pointless save for Kratos vs Zelos. One of the sequel's good points is that it let's you pick who Lloyd paired up with.
...are you sure? I thought the ending paired him up with whoever he had the most affection points with, who joins him on the journey at the end (except Kratos, in which case Colette is the default). And that that's what the scene in Dawn of the New World is referencing.
The implication (for the girls anyway, the guys... well think whatever you like) is that the one he goes to hunt exspheres with is his romantic partner. Dawn of the New World goes whole hog and states this (even for Raine and Presea).
That's what I thought, but...how does that make it a giant rug-pulling Colette finish, then? Just because she's there during the tree scene?

In any case, it doesn't overshadow that blond, ditzy eclipse no matter what ending you get in the original game. I.E. it's not so much the character it's the presentation.
I guess I can understand that. Well...okay, that's a lie, I don't get it at all, but I'm starting to suspect I'm not able to.

While entitled to your opinion, I am curious what you dislike about Yuna.

OT: Vaan from Final Fantasy XII. The only main character in my nineteen years of gaming I simply could not use. His worthlessness and immense irritation was beyond my limit.
Your reasons for hating Vaan is my reasons for hating Yuna. Do note that I never played 12 so it sounds like I'm gonna hate him too.

He's not the main character.
Er...wha? He has to be in your party, the story focuses on him and his angsty 'i wants to be a pirat!' quest. I know he wasn't the ORIGINAL main character, but that doesn't change the fact that you're stuck with him as the story's focus.

That's the thing, it doesn't focus on his angsty pirate quest (which isn't actually all that angsty and is just something he says to distract from his brother's death rather than his actual quest). It focuses mostly on Ashe. The creator said that Vaan is just the viewpoint character, not the actual main, and that's pretty much true. Ashe, Basch, and Balthier have much bigger roles in the story than Vaan, who is stuck around Fran's level. Penelo might as well not exist.
That's my biggest problem with Vaan and Penelo. They have no real reason to exist in the story of the game. Remove them and you lose nothing but two whiny children who want to play soldier with the important people. The only reason they exist is because the publisher wanted an 'identifiable' young character for the kids to 'connect' with. The creator was forced to include them and it shows in every moment of the game, at no point did I feel either one of them fit into the story and the fact that I had to play as one of them just made me sad.

[HEADING=1]I HATE THOSE FUCKING CLIFF RACERS.[/HEADING]

Not sure if they count as a "character" or not, but still.
I second that.

Vaan from FFVII is quite easily my least favorite character ever. Advent Children style Cloud is a close second if you want to count that. I also generally dislike Mario(flame sheilds up).

Mack in Lost odyssey.
To be fair the character was strong and i used him all the time because he learned some realy good fighting move and spirit magic. But the reason i hated him is his voice. Good god, i know that he is a kid and you need him to have a light voice but the voice hurts my ears. And it gets worse when he crys witch is all the time.

I think a lot of the Cloud hate comes more from the post-game releases than it does from the actual game. I never saw him as a whiny emo kid in the game, I always thought he was just the distant quiet and psychologically messed up military expert who really had a grudge against Sephiroth. It wasn't until Advent Children that I started to hate him.
This. People just jump on bandwagons as it's 'cool' to hate popular things these days apparently. I recently purchased FF7 through the PSN as I remembered just how much fun I had playing it the first time around, I am about 20 hours in and to be honest pigeon holeing Cloud as an 'Emo winey kid' is just poor. Messed up in the head perhaps but not emo.

I loved the story in this game and it continues to still impress me to this day. However the graphics truely are terrible when viewed next to the current crop of visual beauties!

To be fair I think it was Square themselves that decided to pigeon hole him into that role with the post-game releases, in order to appeal to the 'hip' new Japanese trend in overly emo behavior. I think a lot of people who have this opinion about Cloud didn't play the game when it released, and either played it after being exposed to Advent Children Cloud or have never played it at all.

Well my reason for my dislike of Vaan is he has no bearing upon the storyline in any significant manner, to such an extent you could remove him from the plot in its entirety and change practically nothing. Additionally he is consistently belittled by the cast, primarily Balthier, Ashe and arguably Fran whilst the storyline intentionally ignores him for large portions only to remind you of his existence at random intervals.

The original main character was intended to be portrayed by Basch and would elaborate further of his past. Such may have been a worthwhile ideal however all was for naught as Basch's plots were lost and Vaan plagues FFXII.

He's not the main character.
You are told the story from his perspective, you are forced to control him throughout the entirety of the game, thus he is the main character. A similar concept would be Final Fantasy X, which portrays Tidus in Yuna's struggle to overcome Spira's spiral of death inflicted upon by Sin. Whilst Tidus role was significantly larger and superior in representation to that of Vaan - who was worthless to the storyline - the catalyst which propelled the plot was Yuna. Tidus is however the main character.

Edit: All is my own opinion if such was not made clear.

The whining hyperactive and waste of space and sound that is Prince Tricky from Starfox adventures.

Also >insert every post-32-bit Sonic Character here< is annoying with an irratating voice and crap diologue.
