Gordon Freeman, yea....I went there. One of the most uncompelling and dull characters I have ever had the misfortune of playing. He's not cool, he's not a good protagonist, and just a floating camera that shoots a wields a crowbar. No more interesting than the majority of FPS heroes.
The trick with that is that you are the one playing, I guess it doesn't appeal to everyone, but I reckon it worked really well.

As for mine, I'm gunna go for Francis, as I can't think of anything else. He just pisses me off... Some of his arbitrary hatred amuses me though.

I'm probably forgetting something much better, but since I'm actually playing Assassin's Creed right now I'll go with Altair - my first thoughts when he started talking were "I have to play as this jackass? Wonderful." Thankfully he quickly reverts to just being boring instead.

I feel we should further qualify our hate for Tidus.

It wasn't just that he was poorly written. It wasn't just that he looked like Japanese pop culture icons threw up on him. It wasn't just that he had an annoying voice and was essentially a whiny little *****. These things are pretty common in JRPGs.

What WAS Tidus? He was basically a jock with daddy issues. He's a star 'blitzball' player. He exhibits all the stereotypical 'jock' traits - he's stupid, he's offensive to nearly everyone around him, and he basically talks like a cheerleader throughout the game. And of course he 'falls' for the first submissive bimbo that crosses his path.

This was such a departure from previous Final Fantasy characters. Cecil was pretty much the undisputed baddest ************ on the planet. Terra was a brooding, tortured, ultra powerful witch. Cloud was a brooding, arrogant, powerful mercenary. Squall was a brooding, emo, kind of okay soldier. Tidus was a cheery footballer.

Yeah, I can see the logical character progression there.

That's just it. That's the ONLY thing we know about Gordon Freeman. He's a doctor. He has a degree! Oh did you hear about Dr. Freeman and his degree? What a degree it was! I'm so glad that he had the time to learn how to operate and fire all those complex firearms in between getting his degree! DEGREE!

How has no one brought up that pansy Emo ****** from FFVIII? I hate him for starting making it acceptable to be an publicly emotionally ******.
Charming. Frequent XBOX live much?

OT: I'm going to opt for the dude from Prey.

I thoroughly enjoyed the supposedly harrowing final scene, and smiled at his suffering.

Although I may have just been smiling because that shitty game was finally ending.

Oh god here comes all the Raiden and Tidus hate.

I'm going to cast my vote for Altiar, from the first Assassin's creed. The game was awesome even if it was flawed. But Altiar was just a major ass all the way through the game. Five minutes into the game he breaks literally every tenant of the creed, and then gets pissed off when he gets his ranked stripped from him. I mean that's like me showing up to work, stealing office supplies, peeing on the floor, and then beating up my boss, and then complaining when I get fired. Also he causes this other assassin to get his arm chopped off, and doesn't give him any sympathy. He pretty much tells the guy to piss off because he's not taking responsibility for his actions. To put it simply, Altiar acts like a spoiled child. Don't get me wrong, I love the Assassin's Creed series, but Altiar was just a douche.

Kratos. He's just such a freaking douchebag. I found it very hard to actually sympathize with him when he was being such a prick all the time.

Seriously? For one, I loved pretty much everything about FFX. But even more important, killed the series? You're saying that one character in one of the completely separate and unrelated entries in the long-running Final Fantasy franchise killed the entire series?

Cloud. Fuck all you fanboys and girls, I hated him
I hated Advent Children Cloud, and unfortunately, that's the one most people remember.

He was cool in the original game, but in Advent Children, I enjoyed every minute of him getting the crap beaten out of him.

And yes, Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia, him and Collette both needed to die. Preferably in the same room. Buried under rubble after being beaten down by Regal, who is one of the most under-rated characters ever.

Well you see, Tidus started a bad trend in the FF series. Vaan is pretty much Tidus light, and FFX is the only FF game to have a sequel made. If FFXIII doesn't include a Tidus-esque character, I'll eat my hat. And it isn't just FF, Tidus started a trend in JRPGs of having Tidus-esque characters as protagonists.

And for off-topic, I'd really love to see you justify your love for FFX. The only acceptable answer is "I'm Japanese and nothing I do makes sense to the rest of the world anyway".

Please excuse me going off-topic.

Personally I loved FFX. I lack the eyes, hair, skin and overall genetic makeup of a Japanese person, being not Japanese.

I found the story amusing and reasonably good, if a little "My god we jumbled all the pages what goes where?!". Yes, it was your typical "After ten years the evil has returned, go kill it" and most of the plot twists were visible from about an hour before, but it's a story skeleton that works.

Tidus I couldn't give a rat's hairy buttocks about, and I mostly ignored him and taught Yuna how to summon giant scary dogs/dragons/ponies/bugs that ate every living thing. And taught Auron how to flay shit with his giant bloody sword. Granted, I used Tidus as the third member of the party, but that's 'cause he had a sword. And sadly, as with most RPGs, sword trumps all other melee, staff trumps all other magic - unless you work at it.

Surprisingly, the sphere grid didn't bother me much. It was something new, I'd not seen it before; it was nice 'cause I could actually see what I was aiming at. Whether it was actually so or not, it felt more hands-on to me than "here are your new stats, congratulations you're a level bigger." I know most people didn't like the sphere grid, but hey. I did.

I played the game for hours, spending ages earning the celestial weapons. What can I say, I enjoy collecting stuff.

I did find the game fun. Your personal opinion is your own, and my opinion is mine. If you're going to sit here and tell us in detail about how our opinion is wrong, then I think you can imagine what I'm going to tell you to do with your details.

Consider my love of the game justified. And I do believe that this is an acceptable answer.

/OT

I've already mentioned that I dun like Vaan... But special mention must be made of any twit that makes all of the stupid, irresponsible choices that they should really no better than to go for.
