I'm a huge fan of anything from Epic Megagames before it became Epic Games:

One Must Fall 2097
Jazz Jackrabbit
Tyrian
Fire Fight
etc.

I was waiting for anyone else to post these and NO ONE did so I'll add 'em:

Blue Dragon (DAMN YOU KING POO SNAKE!!!!!)
Prey (Everyone I talk to seems to loathe it for some reason but I like it better than Portal)
Sneak King ((breathes heavily behind plastic mask))
The original Silent Hill wasn't overtly popular when it came out (SH2 was and it's my favorite game ever, btw)
And the House of the Dead series (the theatre in town got the original cabinet a few months ago)

My parameters are if something had to have a "cult" following, it's not popular. Just like any other "cult".

Rule of Rose for sure. Also Drakengard and Shadow Hearts, but at least those got good reviews for the few that did play them. Rule of Rose got a lot of harsh criticism for its disturbing themes.

Predator: Concrete Jungle for the Original Xbox. Shitty dialogue and the controls were a little funky, but once you got used to it, it was fun. Who wouldn't want to run around as a freaking Predator?
Edit: and definitely Psychonauts.
Once I find who was responsible for those controls I'll punch them in the face!

Good game regardless though.

What? Psychonauts was a multi-platform hit. Perhaps you are looking at the purchases on Steam, but it was also released on the Playstation 2, and the Original Xbox.

Anyway, I love Slaves to Armok II: Dwarf Fortress. It's a relatively obscure freeware fantasy ASCII RTS. Well, I suppose it's more of an indirect micro-managing game than a strategy, but incredibly fun nonetheless. It's also ludicrously complicated, and very in-depth.

I also enjoy playing Smackdown vs RAW games. I don't think I've once seen them mentioned on these forums.

I also like playing the Viva Pinata game which is full of mini games with my relatives.

Ah! I forgot about those. Probably the best voice acting in games ever. I don't remember anyone I know playing them, but they had a great, if convoluted, story

Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri

One of the best games I've ever played, got good reviews as well, people didn't buy it though. One of the reasons Looking Glass Studios had to close IIRC.

Also, it takes something special to bring me out of lurker status and sign up just to mention it.

I play SvR 2009 every once in a while, but I don't think they can be considered in this thread since the SvR series is fairly popular.

Star Wars: Obi Wan. Was basically labelled as rubbish by the gaming press, but is actually pretty fun if you think of it as a high-res mission pack for Jedi Knight -- which is appropriately, since it was initially treated as a sequel to JK before having its development transferred to the Xbox.

I've never ever EVER found a single person apart from me that has played Aquanox 2.
I agree that the voice acting was shit, and that the story was incomprehensibly fucked up...
But it was really fun, especially with a joystick.
Funny. I didn't really like the gameplay THAT much (it was fun though), but that 'incomprehensibly fucked up' story was the main reason I played it to the end. And loved it.
Ok, well, maybe the story was ok in the middle, but it has no start or end. Nothing is explained.

What are the Angel's tears? What are the strange invincible multiplying creatures? What the hell are Bionts and why is one shoved into the game and reffered to a few times without real explanation? What happened with William's dad?

Too many questions with not enough answers in my opinion.
