so yeah I really like left 4 dead

and Ive been avoiding the second one because of censoring

so from what I hear mabye its already happned but Valve plan on making all the orignal games campagns availible on the seaquel (right now its 2 of them or somthing)

soooo will I finally have to get left 4 dead 2? is it going to make number 1 anymore redundant that it already has?

what do you think of this?

I got bored of l4d2 ages ago but yeah it would make l4d1 completely redundant. Not that many still play it anyways.

L4D2 was little more than an expansion pack pushed off as a full priced game anyways...

Expansion packs generally give as much or more content as the original game. Seriously.

I don't like it as much as L4D1 as the infected, but being a survivor is just as fun (though I liked the original cast more). Spitter and Charger are too situational for my tastes.

The shotguns in L4D1 will still be better. Strangely that's enough to make me prefer 1

There are memory patches to uncensor the game if you live in one of those regions...I use one and it works great :D The bodies disappearing before they hit the ground bugged me far too much to play without it.

I got it, and its just as good as the first one, considering it will soon be the first one as well. As has been mentioned, there is already one campaign from the first available, with the original cast of course.

Are you Australian? I used a work around to add the gore back in, I actually found it on The Escapist. I don't know how to link to that thread so I'll just quote the first post.

Edit: *Confirmed to work in retail L4D2*

People with the censored version only need to change two text files in order to play with the ridiculous amounts of gore.

-Open the text file at C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2 demo\steam_appid.txt
Change the number "590" to "510".
Save the file and close.
Right-click > Properties > Check the box marked "Read Only" > Ok

-Open the info file at C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2 demo\left4dead2\steam.inf
Change the appID number "590" to "510".
Save the file and close.
Right-click > Properties > Check the box marked "Read Only" > Ok

-Launch the demo through the exe in the same sort of area. (\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2 demo)

Now you have blood and guts and fun stuff!

I tried it, and there's no VAC ban or anything. You can play with other people who've unlocked the 510 version too! I haven't tried inviting people with 590 to a 510 game yet though, so get everyone you know to regore it just in case!

Changes in the Australian version of the demo -

Zombies don't get lit on fire.
No vicious wounds, decapitation, or dismemberment.
Zombie corpses vanish before hitting the ground.
Zombie corpses vanish when a pipe bomb explodes.
No blood splatters on the screen when you viciously smash a zombie's head in with a guitar and what have you.
No riot cop infected.

People with the uncensored version can type -lv (low violence) into the launch options of the demo to sample this epic failure for themselves.

EDIT - If you play on the 510 version with somebody with the 590 version, there will be no riot cop infected.
You'll get gore and splashy stuff, but no cops.
(Could be an advantage in the full game if you're on expert though - it took like 20 frying pan hits to take one of those bastards down.)
There you go, what was stopping you? One warning though I recently re-installed L4D2 through Steam and it was a 10gig freaking download, it took a couple of days, and it's a good thing I'm on an unlimited deal.

I'm not sure what Valves' plan is regarding which L4D maps to implement into the second game, but honestly with all the user made maps around(some of which are absolutely amazing) it's not like you're lacking for choice if you choose not to buy the second game. In any case, some of the original L4D maps with the larger variety of Infected involved sounds like a fun time.

Maybe it's different where I live, but I don't think I've ever had trouble finding a game. Everytime I run a search for a server there's generally at least 2-3 games for each map running. Not to mention a lot of people seem to prefer the original L4D, so if you're having that much trouble maybe find a Steam group that hosts?

True, but with the constant deals Valve offers for the game I'd be disappointed if you bought it for anything more than $10 these days.

How exactly is a game with more content than the first an expansion pack?

Personally, I prefer L4D2's mechanics and campaigns, but the characters are boring. If there was an official way to play L4D2's campaigns with the L4D cast, I would enjoy it tons.

When all the L4D1 campaigns are on L4D2, that will just make me glad I purchased the cheaper one and essentially got a better version of the first game free. (PC version, yay!)

From http://left4dead.wikia.com/wiki/Campaigns

Cold Stream ― an upcoming DLC Pack which includes a non-canon campaign with ported versions of Death Toll, Dead Air, Blood Harvest and Crash Course.

And the announcement from the l4d2 blog:

I played L4D1 professionally, and while I don't play it anymore (clocked like 1000 hours, i'm now sick of it) I can straight up tell you that your statement on redundancy is wrong.

L4D2 changed the gameplay of the series drastically, pushing it to a much less competitive game. The lack of healthbonus/scoring system in general ruined L4D2's chances of being used competitively. Plus the weapon/revive/infected changes changed gameplay in a very large fashion.

L4D1 is way better than 2, and playing the maps from 1 on 2 would be a different (and lacking) experience.

eally? Im on the 360 and my buddies and I wind up sitting in a lobby for several minues before even one person joins.

Addressing everyone who says l4d2 was little more than an expansion pack, I heartily disagree. I indeed felt the same way and had put off buying it for a couple months after it had come out. I eventually caved and it is now one of my favorite games.

Five new campaigns, four new characters, an array of new weapons, new infected, and now oodles (yes oodles) of dlc ranging from realism versus to the dozens of mutations.

I played L4D1 on a free weekend once, never bought it, it did nothing for me.

I've played 2 for a few months now and still have a blast. It's simply more fun.

You answered your own question. It's nowhere near as popular on the 360 as it is on the PC, largely because 360 gamers got shafted on the DLC. I'd also wager a guess that gamers on the 360 are a bit more fickle with their games. I don't have hard evidence for such a trend, but I frequently see 360 gamers complaining about not being able to find a match in a two or three year old game, whereas I can easily find a game in many 10+ year old PC games, pretty much whenever I feel like it, and especially at peak hours, which are basically any time from sun down to sun up.

OT: More content is fine by me, as it's not likely to completely kill L4D 1 as an online game. As I said above, PC games tend to stick around for a long time in online play. For example, not only is Battlefield 1942 still played all these years later, but I understand that the Desert Combat mod is still played, despite Battlefield 2 and almost every Battlefield game since then being essentially that mod with a new coat of paint and (theoretically) improved mechanics. I'm not going all PC gaming master race here, but when a PC game has a good community, it takes a long time for it to die out.

I think it's more so the fact a lot of the things they added in L4D2 could have simply been added into the first game, a simple expansion on what the game currently offered.

I was just agreeing with Fawcks in that sense, I thoroughly enjoy both games and understand why some people are upset Valve didn't just implement melee weapons and a larger arsenal into L4D. I do however enjoy the characters in L4D2 too much to complain about it.

I think the problem is that people whom play VALVe games have become too entitled, too used to their insane generosity. Just because VALVe has been extremely generous in the past ($2.50 TF2, $50 Orange Box, free TF2 updates for years, etc) doesn't mean we deserve everything for free. It was enough content to justify a sequel as most sequels can arguably fall into the, "well it's really just something they could have added on for free" category.

I was happy to pay VALVe $50 for a quality game upon release.
