I bought it today and so far have largely enjoyed it.
The only thing I feel it's missing is ion site aiming, other than that I really can't think of any critisism. Maybe I'll find more things about it I dislike when I've played it more.

*edit* I don't see any point in valve making a sequal. It is still a new game, so modders haven't had a chance to get at it yet, but within a few months there will be countless new scenarios, maps and other mods. The engine is still one of the best ones around graphicially and runs a lot more stable than other comparable engines (there is no point have a large scale multiplayer game on dunia or cryengine 2). Honestly my almost critisism will more than likely have a fan made fix out before I've finished the game

The next one should be called "Right 2 live" and i think they would add crazy suvivors that would try to kill your group or take your ticket out.
Like the psychopaths from Dead Rising? I have to admit having a chainsaw wielding clown as a boss would be awesome.

Left4Dead was a simplistic and generic, but still a fun game.
Why does the sequel even need anything changing? The first game didn't have anything special about it anyhow.
Some people are never happy...
Where did you read out that I am not happy?
I like the game. It's not unique in terms of gameplay, scenario, story etc, but it is fun.
It has nothing innovative, nor it doesn't have very great graphics for the time it was released, but, as I said, the game is fun.

Just keep the sequel that way, kthxbai.

I would alos mkae the melee/shove attack a bit more powerful. At this point it seems to take four or five smacks to kill something, and while it does a good job of keeping stuff off of you, there is no decent means of silently dispatching a zombie. I would either make shoves more powerful or add another melee attack that would only affect one enemy at a time, but would be able to kill them much quicker.
Actually, one of the biggest complaints about Left 4 Dead Versus is that the melee is overpowered, since it makes the Survivors impossible to approach if they're camping (so say the naysayers). At any rate, there IS an Achievement for killing a zombie with a single melee from behind, so actually, dispatching of zombies silently is more than viable.

Why would you want to kill them silently, anyway? It isn't as if any of the other zombies really get bothered by their buddy getting headshotted five feet away from them, not for a good while.
while they may be 'unapproachable' for a while, you sure as hell can't meele a hunter away from you, or a smoker, or a boomer. Or a tank.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems that shortly after opening fire teh other zombies all go, "hey what's this sound. I'll investigate. O, yummy survivors. CHARGE!" I suppose it's also Max Brooks's influence on me too.

I would say the AI director is pretty innovative, keeps the games extremely replayable even with the limited maps (more will be released). Whats wrong with the visuals? I can understand if your playing the xbox version or a shit PC but thats your fault, i think they are fantastic and the animation work is still light years ahead other games. How and why would they need improving? They had to lower them as they are for the xbox version.
Tell me, young man, why are we arguing over graphics?
I generally don't find that the most important factor in buying a game.

And yes, while the zombies swarmed like there was tomorrow (a tomorrow where more people get infected) the graphics still aren't that good.

Personally I would love to have a vehicle section in the game. In L4D you have to camp by a place at the end of a chapter to wait for a vehicle. Imagine if you unlocked a vehicle you had to drive in a open environment to a destination (something ala HL2). The cars speed would be so that some had to use turrets to shoot zombies (but the cars acceleration would be so that you eventually would be faster, but had to dodge tanks). Also, smokers could try to pull the car back and hunters could board the vehicle and try to drag players out of the vehicle.

It would be cool with some more zombies too, and more weapons. What if players could sometimes get a overpowered weapon. Like a hammer ala something in halo, a rocket launcher, a flamethrower that could create defenses by making fire on the ground, a weapon that would turn the tanks against their own kind, etc. I know it would make the game unbalanced but it would still have been awesome.

Also they should do something to make it more scary.

Must be your setup or bad quality TV/monitor. Or you could just be a visual whore, if the visuals are any higher then people would be complaining that the game is a slide show.
Or..it must be the game.
And I am not a visual whore, I think you are, since YOU started this whole graphics thing.
And seriously, do you think Left4Dead has as a good graphics as real-life?

And I really don't understand the slide show part.

Um, yes, you can. You can melee a Hunter even while he's pouncing (it's an Achievement), which stuns him and prevents him from pouncing for a while. You can melee a Smoker's tongue if you see it coming, and you can melee the smoker himself up close, as well. You can melee a Boomer well out of explosive range (also an Achievement). And yes, you could melee a Tank (not that it would do much good), but isn't it sort of the point that he's nearly impervious to damage? He's called the Tank for a reason.

That is so, but at least for me, it always takes several shots and at least a couple seconds after the gunfire ends before zombies start to get bothered, and you could just turn off your light, walk up behind them, and assassinate them. At any rate, considering that it's a survival horror FPS, I don't see any reason to turn the Survivors into supersoldiers.

All of these are things that can and will be modded in. A Valve game isn't just the product, it's the impending modding community that rallies behind it. A year from now you won't recognize the game.
Agreed there will be new levels designed by modders soon enough.

The SDK has to be realeased first. They've been very slow with that.

If I was in charge of Valve's idea making for L4D2 (theres not real storyin L4D so wouldn't this be more of an expansion than a sequal?) then I would certainly have made some changes.

Firstly, I'd have made it possible for you to wrestle off special zombies that have pinned/grabbed you, someone explain to me why someone who is being mauled/constricted would lie there and wait idley for someone to bust them out rather than take matters into their own bound hands.

Also, I would ditch the damn AI director, mixing up the placment of guns every now and then and vomiting zombies at me every 10 seconds is hardly unpredictable or unique, it more falls under the classifacation of 'monotinous' and 'inadvertantly repetitive'.

left 2 die is the obvious title if there would ever be a sequel

and if there is i'd like to see the like of infected animals, armoured infected as specials -npcs
and more levels.. which enough people have already mentioned.

as for my ideas.

i'd like to be able to play as a common infected in those long 20 seconds between respawn.

a new special infected.. one who is extremly weak (weaker than the common infected) but they swarm around him as if they're attracted to him and act like body sheilds. basically the idea is that in versus you can control the horde when this special appears and decide when to attck the humans.(i have no idea what you could call him)but as soon as humans are insight the common run off to attack the humans leaving the special vulnerable.

what i'd like to see is varying sized plays eg 4 survivors, 2 survivors or a solo survivor (some tough SAS/navy seal strong enough to push off a hunter after taking damage and armoured/ better with weapons) it destroys the team play but it makes you more jumpy as your on your on you own and i think people will agree in L4D thats when you panic and things start to go wrong... very wrong

what do you think?

I definitely will see a lot of really cool mod coming out for this game in the range of mods, and possibly the HL2 modding community will take this unique style of multiplayer and add even a more unique twist.
I am waiting for them to release a surf map for L4D with hordes chasing you while surfing.

I think most will agree that Left 4 Dead is a fantastic game, and even though it's fun, it's easy to see what should definitely be included in the sequel or DC. Personally I would like to see characters turn instead of die (sometimes), the AI to use grenades, and more variety of levels and weapons.

*Note: Also acceptable for this forum...ideas for the sequels title. Left 5 Dead? I think not...
I dont know if its just me, but i wouldnt play that game if the zombies.. oh i mean the "infected" used grenades. i LOVE zombies, thats why i bought left for dead, you can call them infected, plagued, or even rotting. They're zombies. THEY DONT USE GRENADES. They bite and chase, thats the fun in it.

its like if aqua man used an M16 he wouldnt be aqua man he'd be a crazy guy with an M16 that thinks he can talk to fish.
