Today for XBL Gold members who haven't prordered, for Silver it's the 10th when the actual game is released.

What people seem to be unaware of/forget/wilfully ignore when they say that Left 4 Dead 2 is just an update to Left 4 Dead 1 is that there will be more campaigns and game modes in Left 4 Dead 2 than there were in the original game at release. How can something that has more content to start off with than the product that pre-dates it be an update.

As it happens, I have played the demo, and can safely say that those two chapters were at least as entertaining as a whole campaign in Left 4 Dead. The only bad things about it: the Jockey, and the fact that it ended.
Exactly man, exactly. It's so exhilerating(sp?), especially the crescendo event :D

Remember how a lot of people thought that L4D2 wasn't going to be much different to L4D at all? (Read: boycotters) Yeah, well, I can safely say: bullshit. You can feel the difference with it at the very moment you start playing. Everything feels different, and it's fucking good. Who else has the demo, and what do you think of it?
I mostly agree - though I can still feel some of the old L4D in there, which is alright.
Yeah, they've kept the stuff we love :)

I was boycotting it because I didn't want to buy it and then have a better version come out a year later. I could see doing that for something cheap, but not something that costs $60.

I have played it and it is very much different, but not too different. Anyone who has played L4D will know how to play L4D2, but it is different enough that it is not a rehash.

There are more choices, which means more variety. I mean this in Special infected, weapons, and even health boosters.

I love the melee weapons and can;t wait to try the chainsaw.

The new weapons are nice (if a bit tacked-on from Counter-Strike), but what I liked is how they're placed in the maps: scattered and random, not just all 3 on one table like in the original L4D. Makes it a bit more realistic: use the tools you have, not the tools you want. Still not sold on the usefulness of the Boomer Bile grenade though... I know it's supposed to make a mob of zombies start attacking each other, but in practice it's like a pipebomb grenade but less flashy.

And the Jockey is too silly for me to take it seriously. It's like somebody cross-bred a hyena with a hunchback midget and trained him to rape heads. I don't feel terror when that thing lands on me, I feel shame. How can the other characters shout "It's riding him!" with deadly seriousness?

Bile Bomb: Toss on a tank. With all the infected attacking him, helps to slow him down.

Jockey: Wait til that little shit jumps on you when you are trying to crown a witch. You'll feel more than shame.

i pre-ordered it last week. i like the new choices in weapondry. the desert eagle kicks ass as does the SPAS shotgun. they, along with maybe one bile bomb, help get me through the awesome crescendo event everytime. watching a tank trying to get to you with a horde attacking it is good fun too.

my only complaint is the recharge time on melee even with primary weapons, makes fending off a sudden horde in expert a bit more difficult.

oh, and the female boomer.. ..

I played it all last evening and had the time of my life. Never played the orginial but found it fun, Easy and Normal mode were both, um, easy. Advanced was passable as well but the team I was with could not do Expert, this was partly my fault for running too far ahead.

Yeah, it ended far too soon. And I love the sniper rifles. And the machette.

Why are you playing it for Xbox?? Why pay 10 bucks a month for online support? if you had it for PC controls would be better it would be 10 bucks cheaper and stem doesnt charge you 10 bucks a month. Plus its a valve game; its meant to be played for PC. Plus we had the demo already. It really doesnt matter though i am not picking up this game Killing floor is way more fun due to the fact A) it cost 20 bucks B) 7 classes now and a ton of maps (free of charge) more variety in zombie types and its a more difficult game.

Because he prefers using a controller, TV and doesn't have a gaming PC.
Simple.

Why do you care?

Edit:
Killing floor is way more fun due to the fact A) it cost 20 bucks
What? How does how much something cost make it more fun to play? I've played many a free game and play Quake Live a hell of a lot but doesn't make it more fun than the games I've paid for. Value yes, fun/gameplay no.

Left 4 Dead 2 is astounding. There's a lot of fun to be had with just the two chapters, and the gameplay has been improved tremendously from Left 4 Dead.

The special infected all have synergy, even with the 3 new additions. In chapter 2 of The Parish, we were about to go around a corner, but a Jockey attached itself to Nick and ran him off around the corner, a spitter spat on the ground to separate us from him, and a smoker yanked me in the direction opposite of the way Nick was going. Yikes. That attack alone downed 2 of us, and that's just one combo. I'd hate to see a boomer, jockey, and a charger together.

The new changes to the inventory are excellent as well. There's an element of choice when I'm deciding if I want 2x pistols or a guitar, which is a great move on Valve's part, since you can never anticipate which of the two you will need later in the level. The same applies to the Defibrillator and Boomer Bile, since they both also have their own uses. I don't think I'd ever take adrenaline over pills though. I can see where it could come in handy, but adrenaline is too much of a niche thing for me to consider carrying around.

Overall, Left 4 Dead 2 improves virtually every single aspect of the original. I can't wait to finish The Parish and the other 4 campaigns C:

Well, seeing that this sounds like an open question, I'm going to answer it. Firstly, I own an X-Box 360. Also, I do not have a PC that could effectively run L4D2 (or any modern PC game for that matter). Also, I'd personally prefer to play the game on the 360 than I would on a PC.

As shocking as it may seem, there are also bound to be a myriad of other reasons why somebody would choose to play the game on their console over the PC.

Because I was raised on console shooters. I play TF2 leagues better with a controller than I do with a mouse and keyboard.

All of which is your opinion, and means fuck all to me. But the reason I would play it on Xbox is that my computer isn't really that great, and if I did play it on PC I'd have bad graphics and framerate. So in that sense, it's better for me to play it on the Xbox. As for controls being better, I can play it just fine and very well on the Xbox pad, so, no not really. I don't pay for the gold Live membership monthly, I just buy 3 months whenever I feel like it. As for it being meant to be played on the PC, just...well, no. Valve made the decision for it to be played on the Xbox as well, so no, it isn't meant to be played on PC. And I have Killing Floor, and in my opinion it isn't as fun.

I started out with game pad as well and it stayed that way until 2005, then my friends showed me something amazing UT2K4 for PC, sure i sucked at mouse a keyboard for a while but as soon as i hit the 15 hour mark i could stand game pad for anything FPS. It just more responsive. I Do own an X box and all most of my friends how play video games play on X box but i dont play with them because i cant handle that game pad. PC offers a game pad option for most of its games does X box offer mouse and keyboard? (If they do i actually would like to know)

I've got about 100 hours in PC TF2, I still play better on consoles than I do with the PC. I'm much more accurate with console controls than I am with PC controls, so why bother making the switch? Money isn't a problem, and there's no point trying to adapt to different controls when I can jump right in with a console shooter and perform perfectly well.

Its better on all fronts and it feels a lot more polished, expert seems to be a bit easier though.

And I never get the comment about the "glorified expansion pack" a lot of sequels of respected franchises are exactly that (Halo > Halo2, Gears>Gears2 etc). and seeing that you have the option to get a 4pack-pre-order discount you end up with a 24euro/37dollar price tag which is not a lot of money.
