I would play a Zelda MMO, even if the only reason would be to see if the game would be any good.

I am not sure if it is a good or bad idea, but even with my admittedly limited amount of time playing the games, the series doesn't seem like it would make a very good MMO. Sure, it does have a massive world and varied races, but I couldn't get over Link not being the big hero. It wouldn't feel like it was a LoZ game. It would be closer to a fantasy MMO with elements of LoZ.

Still, as I already said, if one comes out, I am playing it.

wow. everybody hates this idea. sorry dude. I also say no, but thats more because Im annoyed at the current trend towards making an mmo about everything. I cant go five minutes without hearing about the latest attempt to cash in on what blizzard has done. and I cant see this amounting to much more than that. in a world where mmorpgs are becoming increasingly mainstreame, Zelda needs to stick to its roots and do what it does well, not jump on the proverbial bandwagon.

hmm.. maybe if they made the story like this: a super evil overlord guy dude it invading hyrule!! all the players go through childhood and become a man, then enlist in the army, then they fight in a huge war. they could have a story based around you, they did it in LOTRO and it worked REALLY well, and the combat would need tweaking, but if the game where based around a huge war, with just LOZ backdrop im in, and have cool horses is a must!!
I was thinking along the lines of this. Have Gannon(add the dorf if you want) invade hyrule once more, but this time no chosen hero surfaces to save the day. The good races of hyrules mobilize to fight the hoards of evil.

Against this rather basic backdrop, have WAR like arenas where you can battle other players directly and for the territory of hyrule. With two main cities that the main objectives that are hard to get to and capture.Have key characters like Zelda or Gannon be mod controlled and restricted to their home capital.

Make them near unkillable and just whip them up outside of the capital occasionally with very little warning for a set time, as a little morale booster, and a way to add zelda characters to the main storyline as they choose to sally forth.

On the side we have dungeons that you can use to claim equipment that can enhance your ability to fight in the main war. Single player dungeons could focus exclusively upon this, whilst multi-player dungeons would have puzzles ala four swords, with the added mix or PVP combat as whoever controls the dungeon confers a bonus to the surrounding areas for the controlling side.

Perhaps the single player dungeons could open up hidden paths for that player and other who have found it to reach other battle zones quicker.

There. Its not a perfect idea, but if its what I managed to knock up on the fly after reading some of the constructive comments on the forum and the background story that seydamen thought up me being a barely awake person who knows sod all about gaming design in general it could work.

In the hands of a company that knew what they were doing (would suggest nintendo whip this out to a third party known for being good with MMOs, with them having explicit permission to veto certain things just so they feel in control of the IP)it could work.

yeah, no, your best bet would be a pokemon mmo if u want nintendo to do anything in that arena, granted there is talk of bringing the new cartoon network mmo to the wii......... so that may win out, who knows, only time will tell

I can see where you're coming from, but I just don't think it would work. It just wouldn't feel like a zelda game if there were big crowds of people everywhere, or if you weren't playing Link.
I agree with you.

It could work if (really big IF!!) it only took place in the zelda ish universe, but could couldnt have any real interations with the main charaters.

Even then it still wouldnt be quite well; Zelda

Erm... no! There can only be one Link, but I would like a game where you play as Ganondorf and rule the world. :p

Ok so lets think abotu a Zelda MMO.

First off it had to be action focused no real time stat based BS.

2. Character classes
Faction 1:Good
Warrior(Warrior weapons nut)
Hero(basic all type character)
Ranger(range weapon focused)
Mage(magic focused)
Sheikah (thief class that can either become ninja like with more magic and skills or thief like begin able to use more weapons and armor )

Faction 2:Neutral
Tiki warrior (Island warrior a mix of Warrior and hero classes, uses spears and bows)
Pirate (Well rounded with range and close combat weapons so so defensive)
Pirate Gunner (bombs and guns ahoy!,def kinda sucks)
Pirate thief(thief based class)
Pirate tinker(strange equipment wilder)
Tiki mage(Island magic user/summoner )

Faction 2:Neutral

Faction 4
Dark knight(dark warrior)
Dark Hero (Dark hero)
Skull kid(thief/mage)
Wolfman(Like Sheikah but has optional warrior path)
Witch/Warlock(magic user)
Dark Kokiri(not a race but a class of dark mischievous thieves)

3.Races

Gordon
Duku
Fairy (just shut up and hear me out, about the size of Dukus can fly, after a few levels you can grow up some have an "adult form".)
Zora
Rito(can;t use weapons and fly,can however use magic and fly)
Moblins(Bulldog/pig)
Goblins(the smaller ones)
Human
Hylia(elfs)

4. COMBAT MUST BE ACTION BASED with the option to use stat based automated fighting, refine it a tad, all characters share the same basic attacks. Jump attack, becomes smashing with weapon or magic depending on class. Sword spin becomes a 360 attack depending on class. and so on.

Now we need a stamina bar yes we have stats its just combat is not completely ruled by them, the stamina bar is used for 2nd level attacks(jump attack, spin attack, ect) magic is used for some attacks and a combination for others.

Now lets add a defense bar it soaks up and fends off attacks when you are out you can not defend yourself well and you take more damage when defending.

With the right piece of equipment you can share this with magic or stamina, the same for stamina, basically have equipment that makes the game fun and worthwhile.

Also the focus of of the game is not to be a grinding MMO but a live gaming experience with random and new story bits and quests, the game has to be fun and open compared to any other MMO on the market.

The game is setup as world heros vrs world villains, the NCPs being the brunt of world villains. You take the Zelda lore and apply it to a open fantasy RP experience, most puzzles can be gotten pasted with one player but alot of the neat stuff requires a team.

well thats all I haz for now.... mew brwains needz recharging...

You sir, are a genius!
Just spotted the quote LOL

Its not that hard a setup to figure out a action focused MMO in the style of guild wars or PSO limited number of players per area/town. The story revolves around Zelda lore minus the whole singular hero bits. You have multi character races with slightly different stats and attacks, multi different classes to max out variety.

Dungeons/Mazes are setup for single and multi player play threws with a mix of puzzle solving and exploring with a emphasis on 4-8 party groups.

They could run as a free setup and change for simple things like changing server, changing character class with minimal point loss, having more than 3 characters(2$ per character, one time fee). Make money from DLC and expansions. Or offer the free with 2 levels of subscription plans, a 5$ a month plan that gets you 10 character slots and free sever transfers, free character class change for minimal loss, you get some free DLC, for 15$ you get all DLC and coupons for 25% off the 40$ expansion.

Offer at least 2 of these plans you it wont have any trouble making money..

Yeaaaaaaa, this is just a NO to me.
LoZ can't be an MMO at all. I don't see how it would work. I really don't.
As Max said, no one else in the game really does anything.

Oy you dump the single hero bit and expand on the race and class lore already there to make a proper action focused fantasy action RPG... like Mana.

Don;t think of this as a MMO, its more a MP based game with a kinda open over world and dungeons meant for 1-4 or 2 or 3 teams of 4 for either competition or everyone rading and getting through the dungeon together. Levels are built with puzzle and traps in mind made large enough to put group tactics to use.

This is more like a cross between a FPS with a squad based game play and GW or Daiblo you have very open towns and possibly over world maze areas and dungeons would be limited to teams of 2 or more working together or against each other or single players.

Points and treasure gained can be used for game types, whoever gets the most points depending on game type (damage given, rubies taken/treasure taken) you can cherry pick what items are handed out from the competition or hunt.

Now to make the MMO aspect more interesting say you have a dozen dungeons around town a low level player can get to,randomly the main treasure (generally a gadget, like rope1-3,hook rope1-3,rope arrow1-6,hook shot1-6,bag,bomb,ect) The trick is sometimes they are not always there. If ti looks like the dungeon has been looted the only thing you will find is a rare item once in a great while.

There's alot of potential here to make a "live" game.

One of my favourite game franchises turned into one of my least favourite game genres? No thanks. And I think MMO fans wouldn't like to play an MMORPG made by Nintendo (due to friend codes and the lack of communication).
