Well, actually that should be a no. I was just trying to be unique.
Zelda is an action/adventure game, it would be practically impossible to turn it into an MMO and still keep that adventure aspect of the game.
Why?

Look at guild wars...it dose pretty good with the adventure setup... and think about it like this a world in 3D not a flat plane like 90% of MMOs.
In the Zelda games there's the dungeons to solve, this is done by both fighting AND puzzle solving. It would be difficult to keep that puzzle solving aspect in an MMO simply because you'd need a LOT of puzzles if you want a big world.

Have you played FF11 any at all?
And this is easily over came by something called design you make 80-90% of dungeons accessible with 1 character, teams get different areas to go through.

A mix of FF11,Monster hunter,PSO and Guild war design elements will remedy all this.

If I wasn't clear on the post, I think it can work well. The concept of Nintendo making an MMO is quite insane, as it would be something pretty original in comparison to others I think.

Actually perhaps it would be better as an online ARPG like monster hunter? What would everone's perception of it be then, when it wouldn't lose much of it's game mechanic, it would basically be zelda only somewhat more detailed and online.

Think about it, hell I might even make a thread to see what people think (even though it will get crucified, but still).
Now that would work, the trouble is there is alot of mixed MMO/Zelda/Nintendo hate its all pouring out to diss it because its cool to diss it.
Pfft. Expected, to be honest, people always flame things like this because it's cool, it's like Yahtzee fanboys all over again. I think the ultimate flame fodder would be a 'what if there was a Zelda+final fantasy JRPG on the wii? would you buy it?' thread, the trolls would have a field day.

Actually you know what, I will make a thread. Of the ARPG idea, not the other one.

]No, no Zelda MMORPUGER.

However, I see a viable Pokemon one, if Nintendo will ever get internet support right. Pokemon is essentially a single-player MMO.
^^You see Nintendo? That's what a good idea looks like. Get on it.

I don't think Zelda would work though. What might work (getting a bit off topic here, bear with me) is one based on the book Epic. In this book, the world's economy and such are all controlled by an MMO called Epic. All forms of physical disputes are outlawed and heavily punished, and as such, disputes are solved by fighting in an arena in Epic. When people want something (i.e, a solar panel breaks and they need a replacement) they make a request to the government. If they refuse, the person has a right to challenge them in Epic. Thing is, money in Epic is very scarce, and all the money the people spend goes right to fueling the govenment's teams. I won't spoil any more, you should read the book to get a better idea of what I'm talking about though.

Soooooooo what would be the point of the game? I mean the greatest achievement there is in the game is saving the princess and since we're not gonna be Link, we're gonna be doing something less significant, sooooooo? helping the crazy old lady find her cat?

Well I'm assuming that the vast majority of us are not creative writers or game developers (including yourself) so we wouldn't know. But I'm sure something could be birthed to work with the concept and mechanic of the game.

Whats the point of WOW or any other MMO?

The set up is simple you remove "Link" form the equation, you have Princess Zelda and the King as the story leaders for the light and Gannon leader of the forces of darkness.

Or you can create a new King and princess and primary villain, but in the end it will be like any other MMO you play it more for the company than the story or gameplay.

I didn't play any of those games but I don't see how making 80-90% of the dungeons accessible to 1 character would solve the problem of not having enough puzzles.

Ok, I'm a fairly big Zelda fan... I know, the name might fool you. I have to say that this is an unequivically hardcore, great idea. I wonder just how much of a horrible idea Nintendo can make money off of. Could we, say, try it with a series that isn't Zelda, though? How about Mario Bros? We could call it "The Legend of the Autonomous Mario-Like Heros"... Yeah, and we could all play as random plumbers! YEAH! And...And... We could level up by getting new hats, and getting new powered costunes! I want the Master Chief costume! OH!!! We could play as Toads too! And we could grind levels on Goombas and Koopas! BEST.IDEA.EVO!

/me throws himself off a sky scrapper.

If map design is based around puzzles it solves itself....
You will probably have to limit dungeon max players like GW or PSO, but it can easily be done to allow teams of no more than 12 members hit a dungeon and turn it out opening up all the paths of a dungeon.

If you look at how big FF11 is its not that huge a deal to make mazes and puzzles, and everything in a MMO is watered down so having weak puzzles is not the reason to be annoyed with it, if you want a SP experience go play the SP games.

I believe they should make a zelda mmo but should stay with the same formula that has worked so freaking well. just expand on the combat a little more let me know what you really think and feel free to pitch in ideas

- they could take hyrule and expand it to be huge so the game world would be bigger they have tons and tons of places to pull material from, like all the games
- you could play as several races from a zora to a hylain <-spelled wrong most likely
- use the combat system from TP or Oot just beef it up with more spells and weapons
- leveling up basically axed from the game getting more hearts is basically the same allowing you more than the standard twenty hearts
- link, and zelda are still in the game not playable

i know there are way more please give me some thoughts

Sounds like a good idea to me.

The dungeons from LoZ could be sorta like instances in WoW. And realy, with how many races the LoZ games have its practicaly begging to be an MMO. Hopefully someone at Nintendo will grow the will to invoke change. Its badly needed!

Okay two things I have to say here.

1) People need to stop saying 'no it wouldn't work because Zelda is more about [etc, etc]. If I had said years ago 'what if they made a Halo RTS?' some would have said 'no you're stupid halo is about fps' but now they are doing it, because series and franchises can go in different directions (not to say this will happen, this is just theoretical after all).

Halo has spun off into RTS, MGS had spinoffs into bloody turn-based collectible card games, to say that a game of this type would not work because of game mechanics or story is silly, as he as already stated MMO which means that the mechanics would be different already.

2) Why is it people reply as if a game of this type would impact their lives horribly if it came to light, rather than simply saying whether they think it is a good idea or not?

Ok so lets think abotu a Zelda MMO.

First off it had to be action focused no real time stat based BS.

2. Character classes
Faction 1:Good
Warrior(Warrior weapons nut)
Hero(basic all type character)
Ranger(range weapon focused)
Mage(magic focused)
Sheikah (thief class that can either become ninja like with more magic and skills or thief like begin able to use more weapons and armor )

Faction 2:Neutral
Tiki warrior (Island warrior a mix of Warrior and hero classes, uses spears and bows)
Pirate (Well rounded with range and close combat weapons so so defensive)
Pirate Gunner (bombs and guns ahoy!,def kinda sucks)
Pirate thief(thief based class)
Pirate tinker(strange equipment wilder)
Tiki mage(Island magic user/summoner )

Faction 2:Neutral

Faction 4
Dark knight(dark warrior)
Dark Hero (Dark hero)
Skull kid(thief/mage)
Wolfman(Like Sheikah but has optional warrior path)
Witch/Warlock(magic user)
Dark Kokiri(not a race but a class of dark mischievous thieves)

3.Races

Gordon
Duku
Fairy (just shut up and hear me out, about the size of Dukus can fly, after a few levels you can grow up some have an "adult form".)
Zora
Rito(can;t use weapons and fly,can however use magic and fly)
Moblins(Bulldog/pig)
Goblins(the smaller ones)
Human
Hylia(elfs)

4. COMBAT MUST BE ACTION BASED with the option to use stat based automated fighting, refine it a tad, all characters share the same basic attacks. Jump attack, becomes smashing with weapon or magic depending on class. Sword spin becomes a 360 attack depending on class. and so on.

Now we need a stamina bar yes we have stats its just combat is not completely ruled by them, the stamina bar is used for 2nd level attacks(jump attack, spin attack, ect) magic is used for some attacks and a combination for others.

Now lets add a defense bar it soaks up and fends off attacks when you are out you can not defend yourself well and you take more damage when defending.

With the right piece of equipment you can share this with magic or stamina, the same for stamina, basically have equipment that makes the game fun and worthwhile.

Also the focus of of the game is not to be a grinding MMO but a live gaming experience with random and new story bits and quests, the game has to be fun and open compared to any other MMO on the market.

The game is setup as world heros vrs world villains, the NCPs being the brunt of world villains. You take the Zelda lore and apply it to a open fantasy RP experience, most puzzles can be gotten pasted with one player but alot of the neat stuff requires a team.

well thats all I haz for now.... mew brwains needz recharging...

You sir, are a genius!
