The only thing I don't get for the movie is they would have to really change it to use actual actors in the roles. The humans of Sera have abnormal proportions if you have ever glanced at the box, and they'd have to apply the story to Earth with regular people playing the roles, which completely destroys the badass nature of the characters themselves. Michael Clarke Duncan would be a good fit for the size of Cole, but what other guys could match up and look similar to the characters really? I don't want it to end up like Doom, but that's probably how it will be.

Mickey Rourke? Hello?
Mickey Rourke is perfect for Marcus. Does well as the "big, ugly tough guy". Plus, he's generally cast in roles that don't need much acting talent or direction beyond "you're angry".
That's why I think he'd be wrong for Marcus. I don't think Marcus was ever meant to be though of as a dumb troll--it's just that people look at the biceps and think the same thing they think when they see a woman with big breasts: must be an airhead.

Remember, Marcus' parents were highly educated, and according to the Gears wiki, wanted him to be a scientist.
No matter what the backstory, there is nothing in Gears that makes me think of Marcus as anything other than an efficient killing machine. Sure he might be brilliant but if the character never once shows himself as being any smarter than anyone else (maybe slightly smarter since he hasn't yet been killed) then it's not really a character trait.

I mean, Gordon Freeman might be a real Casanova but nothing in any of the Half-Life games give you any reason to think that.

I don't want to burst your bubble but I think video game movies ought to aspire to be as good as Doom. Doom was bad, but most of them are worse (Mario Brother's or House of the Dead anyone?)

I want them to aspire to be better than Doom, and try to compare with the ridiculously well-made superhero movies that have come out lately. Don't worry, my bubble is made of solid Adamantium and thus cannot be burst.

Reb Brown (who played the main character in Space Mutiny [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Mutiny]) would be perfect for almost all the Grizzled Space Marines?, but his voice is too high-pitched. In any case, gorillas would be good. Maybe with Chuck Norris's voice dubbed in... it would be the highlight of Chuck's career over the last ten years, sadly.

Okay, how has noone said John Dimaggio for Marcus Fenix? I mean, he already voiced Marcus in the first place.

I think that Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) could pull off Dom. Cole could be played by Michael Clarke Duncan. And, I dunno, Nicole Kidman for Anya, Neil Patrick Harris as Baird? As far as Marcus though, I have no clue. That'll be tough to decide.

Vinnie Jones for Marcus
Duncan or Ving Rhames for Cole
Vin Diesel for Dom
Owen Wilson for Baird

For Baird, I think they could do Owen Wilson... but I've never seen him in action role.

He does it quite well, actually. Go see Behind Enemy Lines.. Now!

As for the others, I'm not sure.

I seriously don't think you could turn it into a good movie, the story of the game has no depth and the characters are pretty weak. It would likely turn into the Doom movie if it got made.

This is the best example i've seen, the coal train stuff could be turned into a musical:

It is pretty easy to make the movie better than Doom, that movie somehow managed to throw out what little plot concept there was in the game as in demons attacking Mars then Earth.

For Cole, a friend of mine suggested Michael Clarke Duncan (AKA John Coffey from The Green Mile, the Kingpin in Daredevil, Atlas from God of War 2, etc.).
Wasn't he also in the Dark Knight? The prisoner who threw the detonator out the window, it just reminded me of the character in The Green Mile.
no different guy thats the dude from little nicky and the friday movies

First one has no plot and, yes, it might as well be a bunch of gorillas shouting military stuff. But the second actually has plot. If they were to do a Gears movie, it'd probably be based on the second one. Or they'd make a new plot entirely.
Haven't played either game but I have read the book which actually good. It would probably make a good movie seeing as it explains what happened before Gears 1.

I'm all for enthusiasm, and I truly am not trying to offend: If anyone thinks the Gears of War 2 storyline is great then they *really* need to read more.

I suppose I should be grateful that there's some appreciation for a violent game that makes an effort to tell a story, but the story itself is not masterful by any stretch. It uses some very blunt techniques to evoke basic emotional responses; cheap shots, in other words.

I don't think I could get behind a Gears of War movie that took itself seriously, but I *could* get behind something like this:

*spoiler alert; you have been warned*

(Yes, the whole reason I made this post was to share this video. Enjoy. :D)
