No matter what the backstory, there is nothing in Gears that makes me think of Marcus as anything other than an efficient killing machine. Sure he might be brilliant but if the character never once shows himself as being any smarter than anyone else (maybe slightly smarter since he hasn't yet been killed) then it's not really a character trait.Cheeze_Pavilion said:That's why I think he'd be wrong for Marcus. I don't think Marcus was ever meant to be though of as a dumb troll--it's just that people look at the biceps and think the same thing they think when they see a woman with big breasts: must be an airhead.Eclectic Dreck said:Mickey Rourke is perfect for Marcus. Does well as the "big, ugly tough guy". Plus, he's generally cast in roles that don't need much acting talent or direction beyond "you're angry".RebelRising said:Mickey Rourke? Hello?
Remember, Marcus' parents were highly educated, and according to the Gears wiki, wanted him to be a scientist.
I don't want to burst your bubble but I think video game movies ought to aspire to be as good as Doom. Doom was bad, but most of them are worse (Mario Brother's or House of the Dead anyone?)captain awesome 12 said:The only thing I don't get for the movie is they would have to really change it to use actual actors in the roles. The humans of Sera have abnormal proportions if you have ever glanced at the box, and they'd have to apply the story to Earth with regular people playing the roles, which completely destroys the badass nature of the characters themselves. Michael Clarke Duncan would be a good fit for the size of Cole, but what other guys could match up and look similar to the characters really? I don't want it to end up like Doom, but that's probably how it will be.
I want them to aspire to be better than Doom, and try to compare with the ridiculously well-made superhero movies that have come out lately. Don't worry, my bubble is made of solid Adamantium and thus cannot be burst.Eclectic Dreck said:I don't want to burst your bubble but I think video game movies ought to aspire to be as good as Doom. As for the others, I'm not sure.
It is pretty easy to make the movie better than Doom, that movie somehow managed to throw out what little plot concept there was in the game as in demons attacking Mars then Earth.Codgo said:I seriously don't think you could turn it into a good movie, the story of the game has no depth and the characters are pretty weak. It would likely turn into the Doom movie if it got made.
This is the best example i've seen, the coal train stuff could be turned into a musical:

The prisoner who threw the detonator out the window, it just reminded me of the character in The Green Mile.legolas23 said:For Cole, a friend of mine suggested Michael Clarke Duncan (AKA John Coffey from The Green Mile, the Kingpin in Daredevil, Atlas from God of War 2, etc.).
Haven't played either game but I have read the book which actually good. It would probably make a good movie seeing as it explains what happened before Gears 1.darthzew said:First one has no plot and, yes, it might as well be a bunch of gorillas shouting military stuff. But the second actually has plot. If they were to do a Gears movie, it'd probably be based on the second one. Or they'd make a new plot entirely.
