If you want to fast a week, be my guest. You will be able to survive it, but at the point you are now, your body (considering you are not overweight) has run out of caloric energy and will start breaking down amino acids in things you might want to keep, such as your muscles and eyes. But losing that, of course, takes months and months of carefully, willingly denying yourself what keeps people alive.

So, some signs, then, of when to stop. Your stool should be easily passable and a regular color (aka not black). If you stop needing to use the bathroom, you've definitely reached the point where your body has nothing more to digest than itself. You will be exhausted, naturally, and a solid REM cycle will be harder and harder to achieve. That great mind-clearing experience from fasting isn't much more than adrenaline kicking in - a natural last resort to have the energy to go out and find some damn food. Then the sleep deprivation and the adrenaline mix together into a lovely concoction of hallucination and paranoia. That's probably after eight to ten days of fasting.

Oh, and for those who think fasting "clears the mind," to be more specific about it, the reason why humans feel the need to eat more on a regular, daily basis is because the brain in itself uses up roughly 25% of the energy our body processes. Starving it for any span of time is like saying that your car can consistently run on fumes. Because we have a brain with the capacities, so far as we know, no other animal has, we pay the price for the "gas guzzler."

Anyway, back to you. I'll decline fasting, since I have a chronic disease whose medication prevents me from denying myself food for more than eight hours. I can't guarantee everything I've just written is textbook-accurate, but it should be close. Losing your appetite for food could be a vicious circle - the more you don't feel the need to eat, the more your stomach constricts, making you want to eat less food and achieve homeostasis at a level of relative lack of appetite. For you, what that means is that the random nature of your fasting and eating is stressing your body more than it would to fast for a week and then return to eating in what is considered a healthy manner for a month, then fast again for a week, etc.

So fast the week. Watch your hands shake. Clear the mind. Feel like Buddha.

Just remember what he died of - an overdose of pork.

(That was all slightly off-topic, may the mighty thunder of the Mods strike me down, but it's what went through my head as I considered your offer.)
I'll be sure to avoid bacon when i start eating again. And how did you know I am a Buddhist?
I'm going to be honest. I didn't know you were a Buddhist. And it wasn't that he'd eaten too much pork after fasting - he'd just eaten too much pork (this particular bit I learned from a book written in the '70s, so it may be completely wrong; feel free to scoff at it jovially and dismiss it if you choose). The founder and leader of the Jian was the one that fasted to death.

Now that I know you're a Buddhist, I can see why you're not troubled on a mental level rather than a physical one. Denying earthly pleasures is the path to Enlightenment, but it's where you no longer need to deny earthly pleasures is Enlightened, transcended. Forgetting to eat may be on that path, but it's not to the food itself you have to grow beyond, but your attachment to it. From your descriptions, it sounds like you've basically done that.

Forgive me for asking, but what will you consider as you fast? Is there a greater purpose?
I know my answer will seem broad, but i will consider my life, and all aspects of it.

Haha, I have so done that before. I can't believe that there's someone else who actually forgets to eat. My husband is always after me in the evenings. Of course, when I realize I haven't eaten, I'm ravenous.

Well, a human can survive 2 weeks without food, but that doesn't mean you should starve yourself. Also, how the hell do you forget to eat for three days?
Actually your body can survive up to 40 days-ish give or take without food, as long as your body is getting nutrients then you are alright

Aww... see, now I feel like that asshole kid in elementary school who tells a preschooler that there's no such thing as Santa Claus. And that Barney is just a guy in a stupid purple dinosaur outfit.

But you know what? I'm sure that, if you looked, you could find plenty of people who had no clue what the word "breakfast" meant. Don't let me get in the way of your dream to spread the word to the masses.
Gracias señor, for your kind words... May I clean you windshields now? Perhaps I could paint your house? My little brother Pepe can help your señorita with the kitchen...
Bah, you don't need my patronage! Go forth, and make your fortune telling people about... breakfast, I guess?

Honestly, I have no idea what I'm talking about anymore. This whole exchange has gotten kind of weird.

So, I'm going to go now, and leave you alone. I need to go to bed, anyway. Good night.

I wouldn't do it but meh. I normally skip breakfast but not eating for 3 days sounds annoying. Sometimes ill forget to eat for a day but that's on my gaming Marathons.

There was a thread on this here, a long time ago. A girl wanted to go without eating for a week for reasons that now escape me. As I remembered it, she started regretting it about 5 days in.
OT: No sir, I will not be joining you. I shall be making a homemade pizza and eat until I have to lay down. Then eat some more.
[sub][sub]If you want me to test your resolve, I will post pictures :D[/sub][/sub]
Do you have a link for that thread? I'm really curious now that heaps of people have mentioned it on here.
Sadly, I do not. I think it was like 1,5 years ago: I'll summarize what I remember for you:
Day 1: Fuck yeah
Day 2: Aaaawyeah
Day 3: Meh
Day 4: MEH!
Day 5: SO HUNGRY!
Day 6: FEED ME NOW!
Day 7: ALMOST OVER I AM GOING TO EAT ALL THE THINGS!

I hope that helped.

Why is everyone attempting to tempt me with pizza? I work in a pizzeria, i have unlimited pizza at my disposal. I just don't want it.
Because pizza is delicious?

No part of that post is healthy. Not one. Now go get yourself a bagel or something.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I want to go to the kitchen and make you a flippin' sandwich.

If I tried fasting I think my wrists would literally just snap from the weight of my hands. They're already so ridiculous as to be gross.

Oh man I couldn't forget to eat for 3 days. Heck after 6 hours tops my stomach starts getting angry at me. Gets hard to think straight, light headed and a bunch of other not fun stuff happens when I don't eat. Although that is a very rare happening. I'll pass on the fasting, but uh good luck starving yourself, I guess?

Tell you what...I'll join you in not eating anything under one condition.

I get to drink as much beer as I like.

This is going to be an awesome week...

I wish I could forget to eat. I'm hungry all the time :(
While I have forgot a few times, yeah I am eating a lot each day. Not large amounts, just snacking a bit here and there.

But that is because I watch a good bit of television shows each day on my computer, to the effect that if I'm hungry at home, I have to watch something while I eat.

Not that that's a bad thing because that means I am saving time by multitasking, but it is bad that now when I watch shows, I want to have something by my side to snack on.

There are also times when I go through a drive-thru, I save the food until I get home, so I can be watching something while I eat it.

But I can't say I have every forgotten to eat for 3 days. I have delayed eating for 24 hours before, at times, to ration food so that I could save money to get things I want. Not fun, but always worth in the end.
