Ahahah, I never realised my dorf was so devious...that clever gambit with the statue was hilarious. Oh, and do you have any random siege operators lying around? Goblin hordes sound like a good thing to practice catapult use from behind nice friendly walls....

So remember how when our narrator punched a war golem and was sentanced to a hammering (and it would have been lethal too, save for setting an infant as captain of the guard)? The thing is that failed mandates produce similar hammerings for whichever dwarf the game determines was responsible for the noble's request for lay pewter going unfufilled.
In this case, it would be a VERY valuable metalworker.
