Trademerged Summer
1st Hematite:
The first day of summer is a bleak one. Terrible sounds of crashing, screaming, howling, and splintering echo from the walls. Our masons rush to forestall them as I supervise from as safe a distance as exists in these dark times.
4th Hematite:
Success! Our Jeweler has finished his work.
Spirits are raised across the settlement as news of this wonder spreads. I cannot help but feel that we will surely prevail now!
5th Hematite:
The invaders are walled off. Trademerged is safe...for now. The goblins and trolls have commenced grisly celebrations in the former deathtrap, smashing things and trampling the bodies of the fallen. I have put together a plan to deal with them.
15th Hematite:
Our counter-tunnelling has revealed an aquifer. Under normal circumstances I would be put off, but now...
DROWN YOU DAMN DIRTY GOBLINS!
27th Hematite:
With an almighty crash, the massive wad of soil slams home! The goblins are sealed in the secondary tunnel, doomed to drown. Not a single one shall escape.
16th Malachite:
The Troll has escaped! I had forgotten the hatch that led from the deathtrap into the evaporation chamber below. When he smashed it, he was swept through by the current of water. The military has dealt with the situation without loss of life.
21st Malachite:
Citizens of Trademerge, breathe easy!
The abhorrent indoor refuse heap has been cleaned up, it's contents hauled a new walled outdoor dump near the Great Stone Face. In addition, minor garbage, such as vermin corpses and food wasted, can be crushed out of existence in our wonderful lever-powered disposal system.
22nd Malachite:
A small, yet crucial, bit of engineering was completed today. One of our masons undertook the dangerous task of plugging the hole in the deathtrap and saving us the work of pumping out the evaporation chamber when all this is said and done.
23rd Malachite:
More good news yet! The first lot of open-plan apartments has been finished.
There's been a shocking lack of floor space in the living quarters so far, and this is the firstfruits of my efforts to fix that.
28th Galena:
I proudly report the final elimination of the Goblin invaders.
There is now only silence (and water) in the caves they have occupied for the last three months.
I may as well report on our new entrance hall.
Hopefully, visitors will now be impressed by our wealth rather than our squalor.
And with that, I close this scroll. Summer has proven a far better month than spring, and I can hope for a great Autumn.
