Raven Rock. After my most recent playthrough I decided I like the principles behind the modified FEV and Eden's plan. The wasteland isn't safe for anyone and trying to wipe out super mutants and feral ghouls one by one is a waste of people and resources. I sorely wish that Bethesda had included a way for you to join up with the Enclave at that point.

I really don't know why they force you to help out the guys you betray.

Awesome Lets Play by the way.

Well, in order to get caught up on my pre-done videos (to get to the better parts), and to keep this wonderful thread from being buried, I present to you episode 3 of Dr. Horrible's video Let's Play.

Wherein young Liam punches people and faces difficult questions.

This walkthrough is great fun, really enjoying it.

I have one request: When entering an outdoors area at night, could you maybe hit the wait button till morning? I always find picture walkthroughs are easier on the eyes when a little brighter and cheerier!

(Also, your Perception and chance to hit in VATS decreases at night)

I'll try to. I might end up kicking the brightness up a bit at very least, as I have noticed some issues regarding that.

All bloody mess did in Fallout 1 was give you an alternate ending, that could be gained through bad karma or good reflexes anyway.
I thought that ending was hilarious, at least until Kenneth Mars died, then I kinda felt sad whenever I saw the Overseer die, he did such a good job as the voice.

Another question I guess: What is your favorite location in this game?
To be honest, there weren't really any locations I liked that much, The Pitt would probably be my favourite in terms of design though.

I have to admit, Oasis was one of my most hated places in Fallout 3. Why?

Because it was the resting place of Harold, who can now no longer ever appear in a Fallout game...thanks a lot Bethesda.

Oh, come on. Don't give up on him THAT easily. I'm sure they'll find a way to get him out of there.

I liked Oasis as well because it gave me an speech option for my "Life-Giver" perk.

GOOOOOOD Morning Vietnam Wasteland! And now, here are the headlines. Here they come right now. President Eden actually found to be Chinese. Alistair Tenpenny is a Super Mutant, and Nuclear Fallout jams Chinese radar. The Chinese, just today, claimed the nuclear war was a fraternity prank. Also the President decided today to release Enclave-related bath products. Coming up is the Andrews Sister's latest hit, Civilization. Don't drink the water and don't touch that dial!

I don't think it matters as long as you call him Mrs. Madness and make him a skin head with a GREAT BIG BUSHY BEARD. High sneak and small guns and speech make a good playthrough.

However, I did quite like the name I gave my original Fallout character. It was 'None' because I forgot to fill in the name box.

[HEADING=1]Chapter VI - Mutant Mayhem[/HEADING]
So last update we ran into some super mutants and were "rescued" by some members of the Brotherhood of Steel. By rescue of course, I mean they run into us right after we finish killing the mutants with grenades, but I digress.

All the incidental dialogue between the squad is pretty cool actually. I don't particularly like Sarah Lyons or any of the other Brotherhood members in this game, but there's quite a bit of dialogue between them in this part. Good detailing on Bethesda's part.

Apparently there is a building filled with Super Mutants across the street. The Brotherhood is getting ready to assault them and take Galaxy News Radio back. They already had one casualty, there is a dead Brotherhood member further back. You can get power armor extremely early in this game, but you can't actually use it until you get the perk from the Brotherhood later in the game. (Or Operation Anchorage) They don't seem to mind you looting the body of their friend.

The Super Mutants take potshots at you from the upper floors of building. The extra Brotherhood guys make this pretty easy, but if you come here after you've been to Rivet City and learned more about your dad, you're on your own.

The Super Mutants have a ton of hunting rifles. This keeps getting ammo and keeping your gun repaired quite easy.

A car nearby explodes like a mini-nuke. It doesn't seem to hurt the Brotherhood guys too much, but it nearly kills us. This happens every single time in this encounter to me. One has to wonder what a car collision would be like before the war...

Another school.

Super Mutants are both on the ground floor and above you, so you have to mindful of that. This is actually one of my favorite fights in the game, because the Brotherhood AI actually seems pretty decent here. A clever ruse by Bethesda but I wish there was more stuff like this in the game. I can only think of the beginning (Pre-Simulation) of Operation Anchorage where you help the Outcasts fight through to their base, and that's about it.

Once you leave the building, you find super mutants shooting at Brotherhood members who are the GNR building across the street.

Reddin just screams "I am redshirt character, please kill me off horribl-"

OH SHIT! Well, there goes Reddin. Looks like she was the red shirt after all. And she was so likeable too.

What's that giant hulking shadow I see coming through the smoke?

OH MY GOD. Is that a giant super mutant?!

Yup, it's a giant super mutant. I really just have one question and one question alone about this mutant:

How the hell do they get these things out of the Vault?

No matter the case, Lyons tells us to grab a Fat Man off a dead Brotherhood soldier.

Hmm, what's this? It seems to be a rocket launcher of sorts-

Holy crap it shoots mini-nukes, that is awesome. Admit it, even if you didn't like this game, you have to think this weapon is pretty damn cool. Almost completely useless in situations where you aren't fighting a behemoth, but pretty damn cool nonetheless.

The Experimental MIRV on the other hand, is the epitome of useless.

After a few shots, the Behemoth goes down.

Has some nice loot on it too.

"Anyway, the area's secure, so you're free to talk to Three Dog if you need to."

"I'm sorry about Reddin..."

"She died well."

Well, no. She didn't listen to orders and ran off to get prompty blown up by a bus thrown by a giant Super Mutant. Actually, according to the wiki, her script is called "MQ01RedshirtScript". No joke. [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Reddin]

"In the end, that's all that really matters."

"Wow. You guys don't screw around."

"I'll take that as a compliment. If we don't try to keep the mutants from killing everyone and everything in the Capital Wasteland, who will? The Brotherhood does its best, but sometime's it takes a little something... special. That's where the Lyons' Pride comes in."

Yeah, I'll get more into detail about how I think Bethesda kind messed up with the Brotherhood but I just don't like the knights in shining armor idea for them. In Fallout 1 and 2, they weren't really assholes, they were just kind of reclusive and mysterious. They were interesting. They didn't really care about the people of the wasteland.

In Fallout 1, when you ask to join the Brotherhood, they tell you to go away and give you a completely suicidal mission to retrieve some shit for them from the Glow. They don't actually expect you to do it, so when you return, they're obviously pretty impressed and let you join. They're not extremely welcoming towards you until you help them more, but they're not outright assholes.

That's where I think New Vegas also went a bit wrong too. The Brotherhood are awful towards you, unless you have Veronica in your party. It makes sense for that particular group and how they're being hunted by the NCR so they have to be paranoid, but I still really didn't like it. Would I take it over the "good" Brotherhood though? Yeah I would, because at least they're interesting.

The Outcasts in this game? Well, the ones from Fort Independence aren't too bad but the guys from Operation Anchorage on the other hand...

Again, there's some nice dialogue here that most players would have completely missed.

They unlock doors to the building now.

The Brotherhood have a whole little base set up in here, to protect Three Dog. I don't really see why, he doesn't seem to do much except to give really obvious advice. (Don't hug raiders, super mutants aren't very nice, etc.)

Not pictured: There is some more dialogue shared between the Brotherhood members in a little locker room in the side rooms. Also, some of the Brotherhood guys will complement you about killing the Behemoth.

Not that hard to hit considering it's like 2 stories tall and I have a mini-nuke launcher, but I'll take any compliments that I can get.

We head upstairs to talk with this Three Dog guy...

...And I hate Three Dog. His main purpose in the game is to comment on your karma and how you solve the outcomes of some of the games quests. How the fuck he knows any of this is beyond me, it's like he has some sort of psychic powers that can sense every time you're being nice or an asshole. It's especially irritating if you play as an evil character.

Some people say they like Three Dog more than Mr. New Vegas, and I have no idea why. Mr. New Vegas just gives information on the stories throughout the wasteland, and he almost never mentions the Courier directly. There's no annoying spin on it, and he's less loud and annoying as well.

Again, have to admit though that Bethesda did program in quite a few lines for this guy, many of them being karma specific.

"I am Three Dog - jockey of discs and teller of truths. Lord and master over the finest radio station to grace the Wastes - Galaxy News Radio."

Well, to be precise the only radio station to grace the wastes. Unless you count the Enclave propaganda one.

"And you, well... I know who you are. Heard about you leavin' that Vault, travelin' the unknown. Just like dear old Dad, hmm? Met him already..."

"You know my father? Is he here? Please, I've been looking for him!"

"Hey, hey. One thing at a time. Nah, your old man ain't here. Not anymore. He heard ole Three Dog on the radio, figured I knew what was what out here in the Capital wasteland. And he was right. So I filled the old man in. But he split. Looks like I've got my way of contributing to the Good Fight... and he's got his own."

"The Good Fight? What's that all about?"

"Imagine a picture, okay? A picture of the Capital Wasteland. All that brick and rock. A whole lot of nothing, right? There's some people out there trying to just barely make it by from day to day. Fighting to stay alive and make something of what they got.But then you've got all kinds of shit... Slavers, Super Mutants, Raiders... They all want a slice of the pie too and aim to take it by force."

"[Intelligence] So you fight the Good Fight with your voice on Galaxy News Radio."

*facepalm* This should be a low intelligence option. I can't tell if Three Dog's response is sarcasm either. Some of the dialogue options in this game make your character look like an idiot.

"Well, holy shit! Aren't you a chip off the old block? You ARE as smart as your dad. Since you know all about the cause, no need to explain the effect. Let's get you on your way."

"How did you know I was looking for my Dad?"

"Oh come on. You're a splitting image of the guy. He's been here before, and now you're here. Doesn't take a genius to figure it out. You want to find your dad, and it just so happens his location is known to yours truly. He was here, at Galaxy News. We had a great conversation. He's a real stand-up guy. But if you want to know more, you're going to have to contribute to the Good Fight."

Can't anyone just give us some information without an ulterior motive?

"[Speech, 41%] Look, Three Dog. If I find my Dad, maybe he can help with the Good Fight."

Don't worry, I will still be doing the Galaxy News Radio quest. I just want to be able to get access to Hamiliton's Hideaway instead of your dad's location, and unless you go straight to Rivet City first and learn more about your dad's whereabouts, he won't reward you beyond telling you his location.

"[SUCCESS] Well, your dad is some sort of scientist type. Some kind of egghead or something. You really think if you find him he'd help our cause?"

"I know he will. He's always talked about doing what's right."

"When your dad passed throug here, I spent a good long time talking to him about all kinds of stuff. He mentioned some scienetific mumbo-jumbo which didn't make sense to me... ummm... something about a "Project Purity." He also said something about going to visit a Doctor Li in Rivet City. Then, he left in a hurry."

"Then Rivet city is where I'm headed. Goodbye, Three Dog."

"Goodbye. Remember to keep us tuned in while you're out there, and watch yourself. Don't forget about your promise... make sure your dad knows about the Good Fight."

We'll be sure to tell him about that when we met him.

Once again, we level up. You get way more experience just by doing quests than fighting enemies in this game.

Needed enough lockpick points to be able to unlock average locks.

I know I keep on picking the boring perks, but more skill points is always good. I pretty much have all the prerequisite max skill points skills out of the way, so we'll get the more interesting ones next level.

Not shown: Me retreading through some old dialogue options to reach the new ones.

"Consider this your lucky day. I just so happen to know the location of an old military weapons cache untouched by time. If you want to know more, you're going to have to contribute to the Good Fight."

"I'm ready for anything."

"Good, 'cause this isn't going to be easy. Galaxy News Radio is my baby. I love it, I feed it, I keep it changed. But there's one problem, no one outside D.C. can hear her cry. You see, some brainless Super Mutant thought it would be funny to shoot at the shiny round thing on the Washington Monument."

And what's to stop them from shooting it again if we get a replacement?

"I see where this is going.

"Yep. That shiny thing was our broadcast relay. Now it's swiss cheese. Without it, our broadcast range is quite limited. Of course the factory that made the relay dishes is long gone. Leveled. As in, we're never gonna' scavenge that part again."

"This is starting to sound risky."

"It IS risky. I would never lie to you. But there's something behind those eyes of yours that screams "I'm the one who can get shit done"! Your dad had that same look in his eyes too. That's why Three Dog's helping you."

Define help. It's more like, a trade then one person actually helping the other in this situation.

"All right. How can I help?"

"One of the Brotherhood guys that passed through here mentioned seeing a dish in one of D.C.'s old museums. It's the dish off of the old Virgo II Lunar Lander in the Museum of Technology."

Wait, what?! You want me to use a dish from one of the old lunar lander's (Which might just be a model) to use a satellite to broadcast your radio station? How the hell does that work? I might be wrong (correct me if I am) but satellites aren't one size fits all. That's just stupid.

"I want you to get it and bring it to Washington Monument to replace the bad one. That's it."

"You've got yourself a deal."

"He he! I sure know how to pick 'em! You're going to be the best thing that ever happened to Galaxy News in a long time. If you need any more info, I'll be here waiting for you."

Well, let's go and do it then. Aside from getting the key to Hamiltons Hideaway, this also expands the signal across the wasteland.

He's got a pretty nice place here.

Completely off-topic, but there should have been a sidequest where you find records scattered across the wasteland so that he can play them over the radio.

GNR has a back door, which we need to go through to get to the Museum of Technology.

We step out the door and...

We get ambushed by some ghouls. I used the Laser Pistol to save some ammo for the gun weapons. It's much more effective in this game than it is in New Vegas, that's for sure.

In fact, I think most of the non-rare energy weapons in New Vegas were defanged. Some of them kicked ass though, like the Plasma Caster.

Looks like it's time to go through the metro again, this time to get to the "Mall" outpost. You've probably recognized the pattern by now.

Another Fallout question: What is your favorite faction in the entire series? If it's the Brotherhood of Steel, please state the specific iteration of them. (The New Vegas BoS and Fallout 3 BoS are very different.)

Also, I'm still working on that surprise. I'll get back to you on that later.

My favorite faction is probably the Followers pf the Apocalypse. They seem like the nicest people around. After that, probably the Kings, for their style and the way they want to take care of Freeside, when almost nobody cares about the place.

Caesar's Legion. I just like the idea behind them. I don't agree with what they do, but I find the idea of a bunch of grown men dressing up like it's Rome funny, to say the very least.

The Brotherhood of Steel is also up there, though I agree more with the Fallout 3 version of them.

Finally, someone else who hated Three Dog. I preferred Mr. New Vegas too because he was more calm and reminded me of my dad when he was on the radio, compared to Three Dog's constant howling.

You know I honestly can't say, there are so many good options and when it comes right down to it it's more the individuals in the faction that make me interested and most factions have something about them that I find interesting.

However, there are some specific things I like about certain factions; Caesar's Legion actually defend slavery, The Followers are made out to be altruistic and peaceful but in certain missions in New Vegas it is clear that there is a sense of "ends justify the means". The NCR have a long history and are the prime example of the rebuiling of civilisation, The Kings are an example of independency and the conflicting issues with the NCR's expansion and they have sweet uniforms).

Then there are the certain people in some factions; the Mojave BoS wouldn't be the same without Veronica, Dornan is the greatest Enclave character ever, Myron is the best thing about joining the Mordinos and The Master makes the Master Army what they are.

This update is rather uneventful, because well, it's another trip through the metro. From this point on, I think I'm going to get out any opinions I have on the whole section of the game, and skim over them for updates later. (Unless they're a major part of the content in that particular area.)

[HEADING=1]Chapter VII - Journey Through the Metro[/HEADING]
Last update, Three Dog sent us to get a new dish for his radio station. Without it, he can't broadcast his radio station across the wasteland. So we have to go through the metro, fight our way through super mutants, and then make our way through the Museum of Technology. So let's get started.

So in order to get anywhere in the city, you have to take the metro to get to it. It's kind of a pain in the ass, but like I said earlier, as far as sewer levels go, it's good.

The leads to a collapsed tunnel. There's a bunch of broken down buses and cars in this place, instead of trains. It's a pretty unique area, to my knowledge I don't think there are any other areas in this game of this type.

That's where we're supposed to go, but let's explore some more.

We get ambushed by a few feral ghouls. They're everywhere around here. While I admit there's a good amount of detail to the enemies in this game, I wish there was a bit more variety in this game. I miss some of the really strange creatures, like the Wanamingos [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Wanamingo] from Fallout 2.

Oddly enough, there is some concept art for Fallout 3 that has Wanamingos, but I guess they didn't make it into the actual game. It looks completely different from the Fallout 2 one though, [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Mutant_Wanamingo] so you could call it anything else and it'd probably wouldn't matter.

There is a nice mod that adds a few monsters from the old games (Such as Floaters and Wanamingos) and quite a few new ones as well, called Mart's Mutant Mod [http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3211]. The monsters themselves are really cool looking, it's just that the mod makes the game really hard for me. Even when lowered through the mod's options, there seems to be way too many enemies, and my game seems to crash whenever there is more than the normal amount of enemies on screen.

One thing that Fallout 3 does rather well is limiting your ammo rather early on in the game. I found it rather easy to find ammo in New Vegas, and never really needed to conserve it. Especially with the 100 or so 5.56mm rounds you get right at the beginning of the game.

There is a pretty large amount of ghouls in here. Most of them are behind the buses and cars too, you have to be careful not set anything off.

This takes us in the completely opposite direction of where we need to go, so we need to turn around.

We go back through the other direction of the tunnel and go where we're supposed to go.

Another one of those robot terminals. Huh. Thought that the earlier tunnel was the only place where one of these showed up.

They don't appear many times in the game, and that's a shame, considering science is for the most part rather useless, considering how this game has very few skill checks.

Time to fight some more super mutants now. The 10mm pistol is pretty useless against them, but the assault rifle or hunting rifle work just as well.

Yeah, I know I'm using the laser pistol again while my energy weapons skill is pretty crap. It's only because right now I have a ton of energy weapons ammo, and I'm rather low on bullets.

"That's not the way to get ahead in this situation."

I'm sorry.

We go through the next door to actually get to the metro part of this area. What's interesting is that these areas we've gone through can lead to like 5 different areas in total. We have to skip them for obvious reasons though. There will be exploring, but my hopes is that it won't be aimless.

Looks like someone is set up down here...

We turn the corner to find a raider getting up from his bed. Let's give him a wake up call, shall we?

Not shown because the gun is in the way: The guy's head popping like a melon. Sorry, I have a tendency to excessive tap "R" in combat.

The raiders have a ton of loot down here. One of the issues with fighting ghouls for an extended period of time, is that they don't drop any ammo, so you continuously lose more.

You get multiple opportunities throughout this part of the game to sneak up on the raiders in the middle of their daily routine. It gives you the impression that they're actually doing stuff on their own, but in reality it really only comes up here.

Boom, headshot.

If you're curious about why there's such an excessive amount of VATS screenshots, is because I really like VATS, aside from the aforementioned game breaking aspects of it.

Now we've ran into the center of the raider force...

And they have turrets. We can hack the turrets but we don't have enough science to do so. They aren't too much of a problem.

They aren't that well armored, and go down with a few shots. The strategy in this fight is to lure the raiders into the room behind you, out of range of the turrets and into a short range fight.

More raiders that attack from pretty much every direction. You may have died here once or twice if this was your first time playing the game, I don't remember any other point this early in the game that sends this many enemies after you at once. (Until a part that comes up shortly, but not soon enough to be in this update.)

It's a cool area, don't get me wrong, but I still to question why there's a cave here. It's right in between parts of the metro, and there's an office right above the cave as well.

And another door. This one is special because you have to press a button to open it.

Some dead ghouls and raiders. Wonder what happened here? I find it interesting to imagine some territory battle going on in these tunnels between the feral ghouls, super mutants and raiders going on in these tunnels. What's so important that's down here? Beats me.

I get blown up by a trap, and then set off grenade bouquet.

SHIT, RUN!

We just narrowly avoid getting turned into a fine red mist by those grenades. Obviously the raiders set a trap for the ghouls.

We go through another door labeled "Metro Center". We should be close to the Mall by now.

We walked into a battle between the feral ghouls and raiders. The raiders have combat shotguns. If you're going through the main story, this is probably the first place where you will find a combat shotgun.

It goes without saying that at close quarters like this, the combat shotgun hurts. Alot.

Again, this is another nice little encounter (scripted of course) you can find in this part of the metro, I just really wish there was more stuff like this throughout the game. Bethesda knew 99% of players would take this route to get to the Mall on their first playthroughs (There are other ways) so they put all the cool stuff here.

Oh look, radiation. I forgot to touch upon this earlier, but you can see your radiation on the top right hand of the screen, the higher it goes, the worst stat debuffs you take until you die. It's better than Fallout 1, where you go to the Glow with no idea how to tell how much radiation you've taken until you travel somewhere else and die right in between.

Yup, VATS is still awesome.

So overall, I rather like the Metro tunnels in this game. As far as sewer levels go, they're interesting and not too annoying at least. Sure, navigating them can be a pain in the ass, but they're atmospheric enough to make exploring them worthwhile.

Still, one thing that sucks about them is how they split up the DC ruins. Sure, it'd be a nightmare to make that thing and have it run well, but wouldn't it be something if you could explore the entirety of the city without the artificial rubble barriers? How they split it up with the metro, just makes each part seem like a small area on it's own, not like they're part of a huge ruined city.

I get fed up with wasting my ammo on the ghouls and pull out the Chinese sword.

Again, even though we have like a 15 in the skill, melee weapons still get the job done.

Okay, maybe this door will get us to the station that leads to mall? It has too.

Some types of ghouls take more damage than the normal ones, they're called roamers I think. While they're not nearly as bad as the reavers you meet late in the game, their bullet spongy health gets really annoying.

We sneak up on a raider through the hatch and take him down.

And now we're back in raider territory. Do you see why it's kind of hard to comment on the tunnels? Not a whole lot changes between the areas like some of the locations do, it's filler. Better than most filler, but still filler.

We walk into an area illuminated by a crack in the ceiling. When we go up the escalator, instead of going the right way, I hear some gunfire in the other direction so I check that out.

We run into a raider wasting ammo on some radroaches. There's an exit right over here that takes us into the mall, but that's not where the compass points us.

There's a few raiders holed up near some trains over there.

We're surprisingly accurate for a character with only a 50 guns skill.

There's a nice cache of ammo down here. Why would anyone want to live down here though? As we'll soon find out, it's right below a huge army of super mutants.

And now, we're finally there. After this, I promise no more extended metro updates, unless the particular quest/location in question primarily is there.

Next update, we take on probably the most annoying, difficult, and unfair encounter this game has to offer.

Okay, another Fallout 3 related question: What do you think of the metro areas in this game?

Liked them when I was just exploring around looking for treasure and things to kill, despised them when I was trying to get somewhere specific without a quest marker to point me in the right direction.

A little tip..."a lot", not "alot". Sorry to be a grammar Nazi but I had to point that out.

I hated them, they were fine at first but when I realised how many of them there were and that they were necessary to get trough DC I really started to hate them.

Now, dear friends, it is time for episode 6 of Dr. Horrible's video Let's Play.

?Outdoors!?
Wherein young Liam leaves the vault and finds a place very recently ravaged by nuclear war (wait, what... my editor is yelling something about two hundred years or whatever, I can't hear him very well)...

So, Fallout question... Do you think the Brotherhood of Steel is justified in their actions? (the real BoS, not the fallout 3 ones)

Captcha: Provided manyage "and so the holy men provided manyage to the hungry and sick"

EDIT:
Okay, another Fallout 3 related question: What do you think of the metro areas in this game?
I hate them; they're worse than most sewer levels, and it isn't helped by the fact that Bethesda is terrible at interior design. It shouldn't be possible to get lost in a linear tunnel.

[HEADING=1]Chapter VIII - The Battle at the Mall[/HEADING]
So last update, we spent the entire time in the sewer. This time, we get out and we're in for one hell of a battle.

Welcome to the Mall. It's just one big battlefield and unfortunately, you get off the metro right in the middle of it. If this is your first time playing the game, or you're just following the main storyline with very few sidetrips (like we are, for the time being) you're going to die here. So why is it so hard?

There are a ton of enemies, all a decent distance away from you, in cover, and with assault rifles, miniguns, or hunting rifles. Trying to run towards a specific group of enemies will get you mowed down, so you have to find some decent cover from the hail of bullets.

At this point in the game, your guns skill will probably not be the best, so you will miss the majority of your shots, because most of the fight is at long range.

And you get to fight brutes, who have way more health than the already bullet spongy super mutants. Expect to waste a ton of ammo on these guys, and considering that for some this is just the beginning of the game, it might get annoying.

One of the nearby cars explodes, and instantly gibs one of the super mutants. Suddenly, I get an idea.

That's right.

I take out about one or two mutants with a single shot. Our explosives skill is terrible, but shooting upwards usually does the job anyway.

Time to clean up the remaining enemies in the area.

There are quite a few enemies scattered around the mall area actually, but the part right where you get out of the metro is the most annoying. I used up quite a few stimpaks in that battle by the way.

That super mutant brute just won't die it seems. We're pretty well armed, because I know how to get some good stuff rather early on, but I just can't imagine doing this the first time playing through the game. Don't remember how I fared.

God help you if you're a melee character.

Out of nowhere, we hit the level up screen.

Gunslinger is always a fun perk to have. It kind of loses it's appeal when you realize how few pistol weapons there are in this game. .44 Magnum and the 10mm pistol are the only ones that are useful too. I suppose when you factor in the Laser Pistol and Plasma Pistol, it's a bit more useful.

Nearby there's a giant crater in the ground, with a door in it. Let's check it out.

We hit a trip wire and almost blow ourselves up. Whoops.

There's like 4 super mutants down the hall, so I use the Fat Man to clear it out. Suprisingly, for once I didn't not take any damage from it.

The gore bags have some surprisingly pretty decent loot in them.

There's a dead Brotherhood of Steel soldier down here. That power armor looks so shiny and nice, but we can't use it yet.

Don't worry, once we do a certain DLC, we get a power armor that pretty much never breaks, and makes us practically invincible.

Now, we're back in front of the Museum of Technology.

Not shown: Me fast travelling back to Megaton to stock up on supplies.

Of course, the museum is overrun by mutants. It's not like the war zone outside was enough.

Unlike outside though, the enemies are pretty easy to deal with in here. There usually isn't more than two of them that you fight at a time.

We check the bathrooms, but there's nothing interesting in there. I guess that's what to expect, considering it's a bathroom and all, but some stimpaks in a medkit at the very least would have been nice.

There's a few terminals up here, but we can't hack the turret one, and frankly, the other one isn't very interesting.

Oh, the Vault Tec vault exhibit. Let's go check it out! (We have to go through it anyway.)

The game practically hands out stealth boys here. I don't use them too much, mostly because I feel like they're too valuable to waste on small occasions but never remember to use them when I actually need to.

More stealth boys.

I wanted to check out the Halls of Today, but sadly they're blocked out by rubble and a dead end.

A fitting metaphor for the Fallout universe before the Great War, or am I just making shit up as I go along?

And now we enter the showcase vault in the museum. I like this area, can't put my finger on why though.

The entrance looks exactly the same as it does in Vault 101, except it's way more rusty. Get used to the shit/rust covering the walls in the abandoned Vaults, cause the game loves using that particular color.

Each room in the place has a corresponding speaker with it, that gives information about that particular area. Apparently, Vault-Tec invented self vacuuming floors. Who knew?

Anoter little nice touch: There's a skeleton of what's presumably a dead janitor down here. Minor complaint though: That mop and buck look way too shiny and new.

What innovation? Looks like you just invented a projector, congrats.

There's some funny lines in this game, but the problem is that sometimes it feels a bit forced and out of place. It clashes with the really grim, depressing tone of the game.

Due to sheer bad luck, the lander and the dish are just ahead, but blocked by a ton rubble that we can't get past, looks like we have to go around.

There's a planetarium in the museum as well. New Vegas had one as well, in the Repconn HQ.

I apologize in advance, the subtitles kind of glitch out from here and show the same dialogue over and over again, until we leave the museum.

After you explore a nearby room (The only thing notable about it is it having a nuka-cola quantum) some super mutants come out to greet you. I don't know what happens if you just go right through the door instead of visiting that other room, but I know they're scripted to appear if you go to the office first, because I've experienced this like 3 times.

We lure the mutants into the office, and attack them from there.

One of the mutants pulled out a rocket launcher, and probably would have killed us if I didn't act quickly.

We make it to the room with the dish in it, and we get attacked by a couple super mutants. Minor thing, I really like the models hanging from the ceiling. I also like the little exhibit writing that goes along with some stuff as well.

It's weird with Bethesda. They seem to do minor things really well, but when it comes to the major plot points and content, they kinda fuck up in some areas.

When I go over my screenshots, I don't like the icky omnipresent green filter in this game. That being said, New Vegas did this just as badly, but with orange instead. While there's still a bit more contrast with New Vegas, some parts are terrible, like Camp Forlorn Hope. The change is so noticeable, I had to install the Fellout [http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2672] mod just to get it to go away. And then the nights became ungodly dark because of the mod.

And there's the lunar lander. I still can't believe we're using that dish on it for a radio broadcast, but whatever. It's what the quest tells us to do anyways.

And we just stuff the giant satellite into our pockets. Kind of silly.

We head throug a door, and now we're heading back to the entrance in a different direction. There's a big rocket right in the center of the room.

Bethesda did a good job making the DC buildings and monuments feel memorable. Each of them has their own unique theme (Like museum of history, technology, etc.)

Still loving that VATS. I should have a mini-update dedicated to badass VATS screenshots I've taken in this LP.

And now it's time to leave the museum of technology. It's a cool location, but it feels like more of a side location than a main one. It feels like Bethesda just picked from the best locations they had, and gave the player a weak justification to visit that place.

I wonder how Little Lamplight got in, if that's the case...

And moreover, why wasn't the Dunwich Building part of the main quest? I bet quite a few people missed out on that one, though that was rectified with a still rather hard to find sidequest in Point Lookout, which just had you visit the place to do something you probably already would have done.

You know, in still screenshots this game still looks beautiful. In motion, not so much. Hope Bethesda's new engine improves that. I still don't know why they aren't using iD's engine for Skyrim.

The monument is close, but in between is another large group of super mutants. Looks like we have to run.

I accidentally fall into one of the trenches and have to run through it, dodging bullets all the way.

Some Brotherhood guys are here to help us though. They have a little outpost here and the monument, but aside from just a few guys standing outside, nothing comes of it.

Which is disappointing, aside from the GNR quest and having a really nice view, the monument doesn't serve much purpose.

Now we're inside the monument. It's really cramped down here, I'm pretty sure there is a little more room than this on the bottom floor.

And there's an elevator to take us up. It's pretty cool, it does not cut to a loading screen while it takes us up. You can look behind you and see the cracks in the monument.

If you haven't noticed, the little panel does not shake when the elevator does. That always bothered me.

And now we're on the top of the monument. Apparently, someone was living up here. There's a mattress, some ammo, and some nuka cola bottles scattered around up here. Seems like it'd be a decent place for a player home, but it's a pain in the ass to fast travel to and there's no storage.

A nice view of the devastation up here.

Fun fact from the wiki: The monument is one of two buildings can be seen from almost anywhere in the wasteland, the other being the MDPL-13 Power Station.

And that takes care of that particular sidequest. Let's head back to GNR to get our reward...

Oh crap, that's a long way isn't it?

Next update: walking all the way back to GNR Fast traveling.

I bet I can guess what you're thinking "An update that's mostly praise with a really small amount of bile? That was unexpected." Well, in my opinion, the mall is the best part of this game. I don't have many complaints about this area, or the location's in it, maybe except for the ridiculously annoying fight at the beginning.

Once the story gets going, trust me, things are going to change.

Non-Fallout but still somewhat related question: What is your favorite RPG? (WRPG or JRPG, doesn't matter.)
