Well, we did it Escapists, we took over the world. To top it off, you named me King. Shut up, you did, you just don't remember. So the first thing I did was to wipe everything off the planet and start over again. In hindsight, that probably wasn't the best move. But what's done, is done.

It turns out that while destroying all the things on Earth we discovered NASA had a secret base in Area 51 that held not only warp drive technology, but 2 ships that already had engines installed. One of which was a colony ship set up to colonize another planet should we find one. So I decided not to bulldoze Houston. So here we are, Houston is now a city larger than any other in all of history. I commissioned that an industrial district be built on the northern district.

I raise taxes to 35% and maximized spending. (40%/20%/40%) Right now we are a despotism so, I get final say on things this early but I am welcome to opinions. I do hold the power to veto just for fun though.
I issued the navigational starship (dubbed "The Soapbox") to Ben "Yahtzee" Crowshaw as a flagship of Earth to explore our surroundings of the galaxy figuring even if he finds nothing, at least he will make it entertaining to listen to. As Yahtzee heads out exploring the stars, the escapist community begins deciding who wishes to go to the new colony and who wishes to stay.

The people discussed our future plans and nominated the Extra Credits team to lead the colony vessel out in search of a planet to begin an intergalactic market with. So, the remainder of us got to work constructing industrial districts all over Escapitol to make it an industrious powerhouse being able to create more colony ships to explore the galaxy with.

A mere month had passed and we already received a transmission from Daniel Craig, oddly animated as an Extra Credits episode instead of a video transmission. He claim that they had found a Class 9 planet on their first warp jump and they talked about the implications of this to the empire and the galaxy for roughly 8 minutes. Some of it was really far out on a philosophical limb but Ashley's illustrations made even the minute queries entertaining to sit through. A few more 'episodes' were transmitted soon after about how they planned to jumpstart an economy on this new planet by producing and selling games. The planet was named "Extra Creditz" as a perfect fit to it's founders and its economical prospect.

I raised taxes to 45% with minimal resistance and rushed another (faster) colony ship model to search the nearby star clusters for planets a bit more rich with resources. The manufacturing of colony ships was getting easier as more resources became available to the empire.

The computer generated this model as a starchart:

Goal of this Let's Play:This game is to merge multiple players into one empire. Inner-strife can rise as well as player pacts and alliances. Probably due to the feelings of where each faction feels the empire's direction should lie. Each player is seen as an inner faction to the empire. You will have planets and others will have planets and all will have their wn view as to what we should do, but each will have pull in different areas. However, we are all in this together. Our survival is dependent on our actions.
It is set on tough difficulty in a Gigantic galaxy. (That's how I roll) But this is also why I might veto suggestions. I will weigh them all though. Cheers. Now, let's take over the galaxy.

[HEADING=2]GENERAL RULES[/HEADING]
------------------------------
[HEADING=3]Extended Rules[/HEADING] [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.302535.12088685]------------------------------

-You can only join the game from a planet with a starport. (Can build ships)

-The types of planets you control effect your weight in the game.

Industrial Planets: You have the ability to make ships and contribute your firepower to our war efforts. With this also comes the responsibility of making a ship for any new person that wishes to join the game on your planet. (Build them a colony ship) You do not have to do so right away but you must prioritize it. If this type of planet is all you ever make, that is fine, but you will be limited as to when you can settle, and the number of ships you will be allowed. As it will also be your responsibility to build freighters, construct starbases, etc. Your input on war efforts becomes more valuable the more firepower you have.

Economy Planets: You have the ability to influence our trade, espionage, and the types of planets we can afford to support. As well, the tax rate and industrial spending. Your input on the budget is more widely considered the more influence you have on our economy.

Research Planets: You have more influence on tech trading and the technologies we pursue from the tech tree.

Misc: You can mix and match these as much as you want but I strongly suggest you don't. It is best if you consider each planet with a single purpose. If you plan to add a starport to a research planet, I suggest you add at least 2 factories to help you build ships faster than a snails pace. But I will build however you wish for me to. However, if you lose a planet - you are not guaranteed to get ownership back if it is reclaimed.

Faction Votes: To be expanded on later.

Nice choice of game to LP, I'll probably be watching this just so I can figure out how to play without my empire destroying itself. I'd make some suggestions, but economic collapse isn't the most exciting way to lose so it's probably for the best if I don't...

Naw, your fine. I figure military and strategic options is the best place for input. (Although, any input is welcome.) I have the economy under control though. This is also why I will probably hold onto despotism for as long as I feel is necessary. Even under a republic I will hold an element of control. (I am the guy at the keyboard anyways.) I should be able to show you a couple tricks, hopefully, as to how to keep tabs on your economy. I am pretty peaceful in the game so my weakness is military. I am hoping the escapist will help me with that.
This is all for fun really. I don't care if we win or lose. (Although, I will be trying to win) I just wanna see what will happen under this idea for a lets play in this game. I realized the other day that this game could actually be used to do a huge "role play" in a lets play so figured, lets see what happens.

Right now, we need a money planet and a manufacturing planet. So the standard Class 4 planet near us is crap. We will settle it soon for bonus research. But right now I need our home planet and another Class 7-9 at least to start a good economic planet. And I plan to crank out colony ships for a bit so anyone who wants a planet, speak up. So far, the plan is to have the home planet be the manufacturing planet. However, the double entertainment square has me thinking it could really be either/or. This starting planet isn't bad.

Great choice of game. More people should give it a go and hopefully this will inspire someone to pick it up :D

This seems pretty awesome, I want more of these on The Escapist.

One thing though, I've never played this game before. Will I still be able to participate in any significant way? Or am I regulated to observation? I can handle either way.

Naw, you can jump in. I will make suggestions if you want them. Right now, there are 2 good planets I know of that are up for grabs. I am going to control the planets that are named after the escapist. So I will run Escapitol as a governor and Extra Creditz. Anyone else who has a planet, can mostly do what they want. I can offer advise and so can other people. However, on occassion I will need a specific type of planet to be founded so that we don't all go industry/starports and collapse our economy.

Of those 2 planets I mentioned, I need one of them to be a money planet. The other one is up for whatever.

Well then, if it's acceptable I'd like to take the whatever planet and regulate it largely to research.

Unless, of course, that's a terrible idea at this point. I'd welcome advice.

I think pretty much what this guy said, this looks like it's gonna be fun. :D
Although I probably won't make any surgestions or anything, having no knowledge of the game and being primarily a lurker, though, but I will be watching. :3

You got it. I am going to add an addition to the "rules" in the OP to give everyone a better idea of what is going on. A lot of this is still very sketchy as I have put maybe a couple hours into this idea so far. Give me a few minutes and check out the OP again.

Let's Plays of GalCiv are always fun to read. Last one I came across the guy tried taking over the galaxy using only tv brainwashing and "peace", and somehow managed to completely destroy the then most powerful military force in the galaxy in 1 turn. Glorious. It got worse later on though.

But yeah, I'll take a planet if that's ok. Call it Eyrie and make it a military forge world, cos that's how I roll. We want a powerful military after all and the sooner we get one up and running the sooner we can start bullying lesser races.

Oh yeah, I read that LP as well. Got to be one of the best LPs I've read. If we're bagsy-ing planets, I claim a research planet! Call it Bob!

Do this instead: spend 100% all on research and rush for Impulse Drive.
Lower taxes until you get 100% happiness for maximum growth.

The colonization rush is everything and even worth going into debt over. Impulse tech will even make your existing ships faster.
You'll want only colony ships with impulse engines (rush buy) and expand fast.

It will be very long until an alien race will discover the necesary tech to harm colonies (planetary invasion).
So colonize, explore, then grow some more. Then recover you treasury, all the while playing tech broker. Building up your military comes in the mid game.

Interesting start. I usually go 100% research in the first turns, since I'm buying everything anyway. What race are you?

Edit: Nevermind, you're humans.

Interesting game, though maybe you should change the OP into it explaining what the game is (because I haven't heard of it before this LP), make all your LP updates clearly distinguishable from other posts, and link all those updates to the OP. It's kinda hard to follow this way.

Basically, take a look at how Internet Kraken constructed his Dwarf Fortress Let's Play [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.245167-Lets-Play-Dwarf-Fortress-Iron-Bolts-and-Catapults] (shameless plug is shameless, but whatever it wins) and go from there.

Anyway, this game looks pretty cool, so I'll keep my eye on this.

Real men use mass drivers. So when doing weapons research go for those. I'm not sure if there's a real difference between drivers, missiles and energy weapons apart from the rock/paper/scissors with the corresponding defense tech. Anyone?

Oh bugger, forgot to give my planet a name.

I'd like it called 'Powerhouse'.
I am going to give you an economic planet, but if you want you can throw in a starport so that you can help make colony ships and later other ships. Down the road if you decide, you can build something else over them if you want to further specialize the planet on money.

That farm tile to the west is actually really good to utilize to bring in good money. Economy planets need farms to feed massive amounts of people to tax. So this one is pretty ideal for that. So this planet is pretty awesome for a cash planet. All it could use now is an entertainment bonus tile.

Damn paint. Anyone know how to take actual screenshots of the game?

Psyonic beams are best by far. That's late game damage, available in the mid game and very cost-effective too.
The balance in the game is non-existant.

So go beam weapons + evil tech.

Missiles come second. They have the highest damage/weight ratio in the late game, but you'll already have won by then.

The game is pretty much decided after the recovery of the colonization phase really, when you make tiny pea-shooter ships and sensors, just in time to pick of unguarded enemy troop transports.
Then it usually becomes a matter of steamrolling the AI races one by one.

When you find a planet suited for economy, I'd love to have it named after me. That way I don't need to have it do stuff while still being part of the game :D
