[HEADING=2]Update 40: Revenge of the Sith[/HEADING]
Right, no fluff, let's do this!
Right, no fluff, let's do this!
Last time, we defeated Bastila in battle on the roof of the Rakata temple.

Still, it is absolutely heartbreaking to kill Jolee. How easy he is serves little to dull the pain. In fact, on my first Dark Side run, I wimped out at the idea of killing Jolee.
When he falls, Bastila addresses us.

Yes, by popular demand, the Elders shall meet their end. However, we have a quest to turn in! Because I won't unlearn years of RPG logic just because I have Max XP, goddammit.

Let's talk about Darth Malak.
Replaying this game for the first time in a while, I was surprised to see how little Malak actually features in this game. A lot of RPGs have the antagonist feature frequently and prominently, like Irenicus in Baldur's Gate II, the villain from Jade Empire, and Saren in Mass Effect, eventually, so Malak's absence for a lot of the game is weird, considering I remember him casting a huge shadow over the game, and he certainly does so. It's difficult to say exactly why, but I think I have an idea. Malak isn't a deep or complex villain, hell, he isn't even all that interesting. But what he is, is effective. Let's compare him to the Big Bad of the first Star Wars movie, Grand Moff Tarkin. Both characters do something very similar, namely, blow up a planet for trivial reasons. Malak blows Taris up because he's bored of the search for Bastila, and Tarkin wanted to show off his new toy. Like I said, very similar. However, there is a key difference that paints Malak is far more evil than Tarkin. In the movie, when Tarkin orders the anihilation of Alderann, none of the imperials raise an objection, painting them all as dicks and Tarkin as the Primus Inter Pares of the Dicks. Malak is different. When he orders the destruction of Taris, not only are objections raised, but it's Saul Karath who protests, a man who, if we listened to enough of Carth's whining, we would know is kind of a dick himself. So, when Karath is objecting to Malak's decision, we see that Malak is a new level of evil above the Sith rank-and-file. I could be totally wrong, but I think this is the key to what makes Malak such an effective villain.
Another thing I noticed is just how little we know about Malak in this game. We know that he served in the Mandalorian Wars, and was Revan's apprentice, but that's about it. However, the EU has gone into much greater detail on Malak's origins, and seeing as I like to substitute Expanded Universe trivia in place of saying something insightful, I figured I'd rattle off a few FAQs about our baldy friend.
Is he really called Malak? His parents must have been assholes. Maybe being an asshole is genetic? That would explain a lot.
I'm only going to answer the first question. No, Malak was not born with that name. He was born with the name Alek, and only took the name Malak after he fell to the Dark Side. I'd like to think that he thought about it for a bit, rather than what the Emperor does with Vader and just sorta thinks "Eh...Vader sounds good. That'll do."
What's up with the Mouth thingy?
Ah, yes. That. Surprisingly, the EU was pretty coy about that for a while, with good reason, it turned out. I won't go into too much detail because it's kinda spoilery for the next two games, but suffice to say Revan and Malak had a scrap to decide who would be the Dark Lord of the Sith. Revan sliced Malak's jaw off, and he said "Fine, you win." Though, he probably sounded more like the Pyro when he said it.
How does he eat?
The Force.
But, how does...
The Force.
You're an idiot.
Took you that long to figure out, did it?
Meanwhile, back with Revan and her motley crew...

And so, we proceed to the Star Forge, Jedi Cannon Fodder...er...allies...in tow.
"Oh no! An entire wall made of turrets! And only like, two, of them are firing. Geez, Malak's is terrible at this whole "management" thing. I think I'll cut out the middleman when I take over. Literally."
Penetrating the interior of the Star Forge's slot (stop giggling, yes, you at the back), we disembark the Hawk with HK-47 and our new meatshield/apprentice, Bastila.
"I think we lost that the moment they started firing lasers at us. That's usually the point where we concede the element of surprise."
"Ah, but we are Jedi! Logic does not constrain us!"
"I'm going to name one of my many, many, Jedi Death Camps after you."
"Aww, that's nice of you."
(slams head on desk repeatedly)
"Oh, good. I was going to feed you to the Sith anyway, but it's always nice when people throw themselves into the grinder for me."
With the Jedi foolishly sacrificing themselves for us, we proceed into the Forge proper.
Meanwhile, elsewhere on the station...
Look people, brightly colored killer robots are not intimidated. No one in the world hides behind the sofa from a bright red Dalek, and no one will be scared of this thing.
"Damn it! If I weren't distracted asking the Narrator questions, this never would have happened!"
These robots would be difficult, if it weren't for the fact that we have the stupidly overpowered Destroy Droid power. Summary: these things die. Quickly. A lot.
We make our way through the Forge, hacking and slashing at all the pathetic droids who think they can halt our assault.
