09 - War Dance
Despite the trepidation of the team entering the Triton with a dead man, the alarm could not be ignored. The squad joined Zombie_fish in the submarine, and the vessel launched, bound for the island of Tonga.
As the craft touched down in a clearing behind a small hotel, the animated corpse that had been Fish began to move jerkily, harrowing yells erupting from his mouth. The first sound anyone had heard from him since his unfortunate death.
Higurashi was lined up next to the zombie "What the fuck is this? Some kind of seizure?"
"It's a war dance. I've seen them do it at the Rugby. Must be picking up some local atmosphere" was Garros-Shanks' reply.
The hatch opened, and the Coelacanth rumbled out into the island sun. Immediately it began to highlight targets.
With a final howl Zombie_fish leapt out of the hatch, firing his sonic rifle at the alien in the trees, the bolt of energy caught the creature in the chest, blasting it clear off it's feet and smashing it into a palm tree.
"Move out, I don't want us shown up by a dead man" ordered Bling Cat. The team began to disperse, the Coelacanth leading the way to isolate targets. It spotted another to the south.
Dekkarax was the first to get an angle, hefting his new Sonic Cannon he sighted on the creature. The hum of the large weapon reached a high pitched whine, and it fired. The dense energy packet slammed into the alien, nearly snapping it clean in two.
"Son of a ***** these things are powerful, beat the old explosives by miles".
Bling Cat called the team to order. "Stay focused people, we've got a big job ahead of us... There, in the trees. Another."
"Get me a sniper on that"
Jack Diamond responded. "Aye sir, I have him"
Meanwhile, the coelacanth pinged another to the northwest.
Doomsly McSlaughter Jr. already had the creature in his sights, and made short work of it.
To the south, the team spotted movement. Bling Cat began to advance cautiously. "Cover me, I'm going for the ridge. Hell, two in sight"
"I've got this one, Diamond, take the other."
"Spread out, along this ridge, move eastward and kill anything that's too green".
The squad began to move, following the ridge to the east. Roland Garros-Shanks caught sight of an alien hiding among the statues. "I see one sir, permission to fire?"
"Granted, put it down." Once more, the heavy Sonic Cannon whined and spat, and once more a powerful bolt of energy blasted the alien creature from it's feet, depositing it in a crumpled heap.
Meanwhile, by the Triton Higurashi spotted an alien on the roof of the hotel. He whipped his sonic rifle up and blasted it.
"Got another, looks like there are several inside as well".
Bling Cat's order was prompt. "Assault team, get inside the hotel and work upwards, Higurashi and McSlaughter, flank round the north edge."
"Aye sir", replied Zed. "Uhhh, I think the zombie's following us".
"As long as it shoots aliens, let it do what it wa... Shit, got another, trench to the east".
Bling Cat reacted quickly however, despite the cover afforded by the trench it was in, the alien was easy prey.
Zed and Raven del Cid burst into the hotel through the rear door, sweeping the ground floor and securing the exits to trap any aliens inside, they made for the stairs. They crept upwards, immediately spotting two aliens on the first floor landing. Together, they charged the closest, entrusting the other to Zombie_fish. They caught the alien on their tazers and brought it down. Unfortunately, though Zombie_fish had indeed fired on the alien as they'd hoped, the shot went wide, and the creature began to take aim.
Zed drew his sonic pistol, firing once more at the creature, but once more the shot went wide, blasting a hole in the hotel wall behind the alien. That hole turned out to be their salvation, as Higurashi reached in with his sonic rifle and blasted the alien in the back.
"Fuck man, that was looking grim", breathed Raven del Cid "Thanks for the save".
There was little time to recover however, as another alien barrelled down the stairs from the second floor.
Zed charged and met it head on, jabbing through it's scything claws with his tazer, eventually shocking it into submission, whilst seemingly uninterested in the fight, Zombie_fish shambled down the hallway. It had located another alien behind the squad ready to ambush them.
The zombie howled once more, and raised it's weapon, the bolt struck the alien dead in the chest once more, and it jerked unnaturaly before falling.
The assault team finished their sweep of the hotel, no more aliens remained inside, and the rest of the engagement area appeared similarly clear, until Garros-Shanks saw one last alien, cowering behind a ridge.
"Can't get an angle from here, he's hiding from us. Anyone able to flank?"
Dekkarax replied "Approaching from the north, I see him, he's dropped his weapon, do I fire?"
Bling Cat cut in "Yes, they don't hesitate to shoot unarmed civilians."
"Roger." The sonic cannon gave a final report, and the last alien was purged from the island.
Our first mission with a full complement of sonic weaponry had gone well. We would need to monitor our supplies of ammunition however, our only supply so far has been salvage, and our ability to manufacture more is limited by the supply of the aliens' power generating material in our stores.
