I'd rather wait another few years before seeing another big WWII game. Though since the modern war setting is becoming just as stale, maybe WWII will show up again sooner rather than later.

I would wait 3 or 4 years....just to make more people say: "Hey, i wonder why you don't see that many WW2 games anymore?" that way they'll start to miss it.

You know what's never been done? A WW1 shooter.

Closest I've ever seen was Darkest of Days, and even then, it was more a completion of "you never see these historical scenarios in video games, but they happened, along with out stuff!".
Yep, there are no WWI shooters, except all these [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_War_I_video_games]. Sure, most people have never heard of, but the two NecroVisioN games are a few of my favorites ever. However, they are more like WWI meets hell with mechs and dragons... Still fucking awesome, but not really a surprise considering the people that founded the company were from People Can Fly...

HOW BOUT A MOTHERFUCKING HOLOCAUST 2 GAME
Super Nazi Terminator Robots invade Israel and the Tri-State Area (latter having more jews than the former, ironically) and Americans play as the saviors

It would be modern meets WWII

/jimquistion douchebaggery
As a jew in the tri-state area, I second this idea. However, the latter does not have more than the former. I've been to both places. XD

What's so interesting about WWI?
The best place to have the full experience of 'Trench Foot'?

Yet everybody's reaction is "We're sick of WWII."
I can't speak for "everyone", but my perspective is that I'm sick of war.
How many war games have been put out in the last five years? Answer: far too many, this is no different from buying each year's new Madden game. It's the same game released one hundred times, just occasionally with a new (identical-looking level), a slight graphics upgrade (and sometimes not even that), and maybe a new gun or two.
It is outright idiotic to keep buying these stupid war games. Demand innovation. A capitalist world means you won't get anything new until you refuse to settle for the old.

no no no no, we do not need to revive the WWII genre. if your missing the genre then play one of the many titles out for it already. I wan't fps games that aren't...well shooters per say. i'd like to see somthing set in fudal japan or rome, somthing that hasn't already been done to death. you can acutally make a decent first person game that doesn't have guns.

hell heres an idea for you. a first person game where your running for your life from jason vorhees. hell you can even have muiltplayer. one player is randomly jason and all the others have to gather together a set number of items to escape. you could have verses or co-op modes that force the players to gather (or even fight over) the supplies on there own or get them as a team. you could even have a team vs team mechanic all the while having to watch out for the nearly invincible jason.

Still, I'd like to see the most famous battles done right. I want to see D-day. I want to see Stalingrad.
D-Days been done so many times, I've probably assaulted that beach more times than there were individual people in the real attack. Stalingrad has been done as well, Sniper:Art of Victory, while a mediocre game, most of the levels were set in Stalingrad, as you crawl through rubble inch by inch trying to not get seen by anybody.

Fact is if you name a frontier, or a battle there are several games that covered it. There are no new areas that can be done in World War 2, and that is why it has been done to death. Sure, new graphics or destructive terrain would be nice, but it would still be treading old ground no matter what angle you took.

Here's one for a twist. How about where you play as a nazi? Can't think of any games off hand that have you playing as the bad guys.
I'm sorry but I'm now going to talk your face off.

I actually had an idea like this where you play as a young soldier in the Wehrmacht, the game starts, like a lot of World War 2 games, in Stalingrad, when the Germans looked like they could take the city. You'll be facing down charges in which half of the soviets aren't even armed, but as things advance your squad (who would each be characterised, of course, perhaps with replacements coming in through the campaign) would come under sniper fire, and be faced with an ever more resistant Red Army.

The game would then follow you in retreat, as your comrades grow ever more tired of the war effort, and distrustful of the Nazi regime, some of them may be taken away or shot for this, the game would go on, falling back from the advancing red army, who are spurred on by Stalin's Order 227.

Eventually, you will be shot, tortured, captured or hanged.
My only real issue is making a fun game in which you're constantly trying to get away from the enemy rather than ever really pushing back against them for a long while.
I like it. You could include choices, like joining the national socialist party would earn you an increase in rank, and equipment, standing against the party would lead to lack of support from your comrades. All leading up the final outcome.

I wouldn't mind seeing a game based on the seige of Tobruk, but would anyone other than Australians care about playing as the Rats? It would be a good seige to play as the beseiged Allies, because of the aggressive nature of their defense. Constant sorties and patrols harrassed Rommel's forces and would be a good source of action, there were a few major battles that would expand the scale a bit. But it would only have a niche market, because the U.S. was not in the war at the time.

I suppose it could. I personally think the Company of Heroes games hit the nail on the head for WW2 games, but I wouldn't mind, say, a third person shooter with RPG elements(why not) set in WW2, with heavy emphasis on squad combat and vehicles and the like. Also, ofcourse, 32 player online, if not balls to the wall 64.

.....does such a game exist, and is it on PC or 360? Anything close? If no, why the hell not, that sounds awesome.

i like th idea of having more ww2 gamesbut to shake it up:
lets have the americans fighing for corporate selfinterest and to rewrite the golbal map with
the british fighing to retain(expand) control over thier colonial empire
and the soviets: well stalin is crazy, NOT heroic
maybe im just tired of the old propagandized archetypes that are portrayed in ww2 gaming.

No, you're an Austrian, and the final cutscene is you catching malaria and coming home in 1943 to your wife, and they have put up a big banner saying "Welcome home Gustav Swarzenegger" That's right. You were playing all along as Arnold's father!

Well, thinking about it, maybe they could do some WWII game from the view of the Germans...
Like where they conquered most of Europe.
I'd play it. It would be an interesting perspective.
