Anyone fancy some Anarchist punk?
Crass were part of the British Anarchist movement in the late 70's and early 80's.
Although Steve Ignorant's vocal style may put you off, the lyrics are dense, philosophical, and often very poetic.
Daniel. Crass are one of the worst bands I have ever had the misfortune to listen to. Completely talentless musically, and the lyrics are a big pile of crap: "Fight american power, Fight British Power" etc. that mean nothing. They're politically stupid and are just anarchist posers.
You just don't like them because they disliked the Clash.
Merely one of their crimes against music...
Is this more to your liking?
Everybody loves the tossers.

I was originally planning to post some Echo and the Bunnymen or The Sisters of Mercy from my goth days but with the sheer amount of 80's music that's been posted already I've decided to go with something modern http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fKzymtAVBqg

Enter Shikari FTW
Enter Shikari are a British post-hardcore band formed in 2003 in St Albans, Hertfordshire, where all four members are from. The band is named after the boat of one of the band member's relatives, and a character in a play Rou wrote before forming the band, both of which are named Shikari. Shikari also means 'Hunter', in Persian, Hindi, Nepali, Urdu, Punjabi and Bengali. Their debut album, Take to the Skies was released on March 19, 2007 and reached #4 in the Official UK Album Chart.

Lots of Gypsy and Middle Eastern stuff in his music, which is refreshing.
That's magnificent.

My tastes in music extend to about everything except gangster rap and some "soul" music.

But I've noticed a distinct lack of electronica in this thread, so

Oceanlab - Satellite

Armin van Buuren - In and Out of Love

(And for some big beat instead of trance)

the crystal method - weapons of mad distortion
You my friend deserve infinite cookies for this post. Oceanlab is the best trance I have ever heard (I've heard ALOT).

Nice, Bad Brains are a very good band. A guy I'm a huge fan of is Robert Johnson(He's my avatar). He was one of the original blues musicians, and very little is known about him. A popular story about him is that he made a pact with the devil so he'd become a great guitar player, but after nine years he'd give the Devil his soul. Another, more likely, theory of his demise is that he was poisoned by the husband of a woman he'd slept with. There are two known photographs of him in existance, and the man also has three gravestones in total, although nobody is quite sure where he's buried...

Here's a song by him:

Have you ever read a book called Reservation Blues? And I'm sure you will have, but please check out Leadbelly and Townes Van Zandt.

Click the little play icon on the first track. It's a live version and not the best, actually, but I couldn't find this song on youtube. But I love it so much.

Sarah Brightman is a soprano, which is one of the vocal ranges. The soprano vocal range is the highest a human can achieve, and it can only be achieved by women and emasculated/castrated men who already produce very little testosterone in the first place. I dislike assigning genres, but I'd say her stuff is Classical Crossover, Pop-Opera (meaning pop songs sang with an operatic voice), and things like that. She's sung with legends like Alessandro Safina, Andrea Bocelli, etc.
I'll post one of her pop inspired songs, one true opera, and the epic Fleurs Du Mal, whose awesomeness is impossible to put into words.
Pop-Opera song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlnmoAo5Avc&feature=related
Opera/Aria: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeQKTeOorv0
The incomparable Fleurs Du Mal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUjtd2eiVBI
Regular pop song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxhFyvw_FXE&feature=related

If someone knows how to embed youtube videos, that'd be great ^^
Enjoy Sarah's music!
Holy Hell, have you seen "Repo! The Genetic Opera" yet? She is fucking AWESOME in that. Also, for the rest of you, the guy that played Otis Driftwood in House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects in it, sans beard so you can actually see his face for a change...Also, Ogre from Skinny Puppy is in it too, which kicks ass, and the female lead is the girl from the Spy Kids flicks (almost) all grown up!

[/tangent]

Mudmen. Ska/punk happy drinking music with bagpipes (think Reel Big Fish crossed with Dropkick Murphys) from CANADA of all places...
