We've probably all seen at least one flick that's famous for being lousy, rotten, awful, sucky, worthless, and not very good. So! Let's talk about them!
Which one's your favorite famously bad movie?
Which one's over-rated--as in, not entertainingly bad, but simply boring?

And just to be clear--this thread isn't for explaining why you personally find The Seventh Seal to be overrated.
It's about discussing, say, if there are bad things in The Room that aren't the fault of Tommy Wiseau, or why it is that Jupiter Ascending feels like a bad adaptation of a young adult novel despite being an original script, or whether there were any genuinely funny jokes in Disaster Movie.
In short, stick to movies that are actually considered bad by more than a minority of people.

This is the worse movie I actually saw in theaters one time, an Uwe Boll movie:

I remember having absolutely no idea what the fuck where the actors talking about and I mean like they barely say anything I can comprehend. Its like they are litirally mumbling.

Jupiter Ascending...well, that wasn't a good film, but it wasn't all that bad, IMHO.

Sure, style over substance, and world-building that went nowhere, but that's hardly unusual.

It's not only that, though.
It's also:
Eddie Redmayne's acting.
The way his character thought that sharing somebody's DNA makes you that person (which is a basic genetics fail).
The way that in the end Jupiter doesn't actually stop the harvesting of uncountable innocents for the sake of a privileged's elite's immortality.
How Jupiter seems meant to be Strong And Independent but is constantly insecure and weak.
The awful pacing of the beginning.
How Channing Tatum's supposed to be "half human and half canine" despite clearly being much more human than canine.
The entire "bees recognize royalty" thing that comes out of nowhere and makes no sense.
The fact that the aliens repair the damaged skyscrapers super-quickly hours after the damaged occurred, and seem to think this hides their existence even though all it does is show off their super-tech to the public.

Well:
The first, I thought he was just losing the plot, doesn't she remind him she's not his mum? The third, yeah, Strong Female Characters are something people still struggle with writing a lot of the time.

As for two, she couldn't, not having any power to do so, but yeah, odd move not to magically resolve that.

The bees...cause magic? Myself, I was more annoyed by all the times she ends up falling off buildings or whatnot and having to be caught.

Even so, I have that on DVD and watch it occasionally.

Oh, it's entertaining, I'll give you that. The SFX are impressive, no doubt about that part.
That's my basic problem with people who are trying to write Strong And Capable Women. I love a well-made action girl, but when they're poorly made they're just awful. With Jupiter, it seems as if the Wachowskis made a common writing mistake--they had already decided that Jupiter is a Strong Powerful Girl before typing down the actual script, and so they forgot that the audience isn't automatically gonna feel that way and needs to see Jupiter do something to earn that title. Instead, Jupiter spends most of the movie just doing what men tell her. She's really weak-willed. (Which would be fine if she had actually been intended to be such a character, but she clearly wasn't.)

And the "You are your mom" thing isn't just Eddie's character. If I recall correctly, the woman with the room with all the candles also talked to Jupiter as if Jupiter were the mom.

And I know that she might not have had the actual power to shut down the life-harvesting, but it's annoying how they don't acknowledge that it's even an unsolved problem. Instead, the ending's all happy, as if things were super-fine now even though the basic conflict of the movie's completely unsolved.

Rawhead Rex. The short story is pretty good but the film is atrociously bad. It's got some great dialogue though

FRIENDLY IRISH POLICEMAN: Would you like a cup of tea?

AMERICAN HERO: Why don't you go fuck yourself?

Well, The Room is the best. It's just genius in how bad it is, on so many levels. I generally don't even like "so bad it's good" but that's a great movie.

Now Sharknado, that's just a shitty movie. Not entertaining in any fashion. It isn't even fun to lampoon since it does that intentionally to itself. It's simply irredeemable, I don't understand the popularity.

My favorite 'famously bad' movie is either 1941 or Ishtar.

In that I think they aren't bad at all; they're actually great. Same goes for Heaven's Gate, but I like it a little less than the other two.

Plan 9 From Outer Space is the shit. The. Shit. Bottom of the barrel shit. Then again it wasn't PAINful to watch, much more of a bore, really. It's just fucking boring. Soft Wood imma tell ya.

Also Piranha 3-double-fucking-dee. And the final destination sequels... I dunno what there is to talk about them, though. It's kinda fun how Hoff nowadays just plays himself. Or something. Jesus that's a ridiculous movie, btw.

EDIT: And I got ninja'd.

My personal favorite is Michael Mann's The Keep [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jaw-UDdB9Hw]; there's just something really dreamlike about it which I really enjoy. Plus, can you possibly go wrong with a film about Nazis and an extremely goofy-looking rubber monster?

Its soundtrack is legit awesome [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsWk2aGYvxM], though.

Wouldn't it be more interesting to bring up shitty films that not many people have likely seen, though? Surely discussions about the "famous" ones have been done to death. On the other hand, how many people have ever had a conversation about how Neighbor [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1362103/] somehow managed to make a gore-filled slasher film into interminably boring torture porn?

I'll take the opportunity to talk about one enough, since it happens to be disliked by many, even famously so. It's the movie Hackers - I've seen many people claim it's bad because it's so unrealistic. Even Mr. Robot had an incredibly cheap shot at it.

Thing is, I actually love the movie and don't really see why people would dislike it. Is it unrealistic? Oh hell yeah. But does it actually try to be? I'd argue that, no, it doesn't. Disliking it for that seems to be as reasonable as claiming that Commando tried really hard to portray the life of a single father, or Die Hard is about the struggles of an everyday cop. The movie Hackers is a highly fictitious action story. Instead of shooting guns, you have people hacking computers using 3D graphics but other than that, I don't think the movie pretends this is how things actually work. It's just an entertaining flick with super high tech hackers thrown in.

Killers in the Woods.

There is nothing like it.

It left skid marks in my DVD player.

Imagine when you already set out to be insulting with a movie, and you fail even past that...and still insult...

The Battle Royale movies. Both are fantastically silly. I'm particularly fond of the way that some scenes are sped up for no reason in Battle Royale II, although Beat Takeshi's performance in the original is a thing of true beauty.

You have to love a film that has German soldiers running through dry ice in slow motion to a Tangerine Dream soundtrack.

I'll go right for the cliche and say The Room. I don't have much to say other than it really is a lot of fun.

But I do want to mention that if you like The Room definitely check out The Disaster Artist. It's a book by Greg Sestero, the guy who played Mark in The Room and long time friend of Tommy Wiseau. Half of the book revolves around his history of meeting and getting to know Tommy, and the other half involves the production of the movie. Really interesting stuff.

In terms of favorite bad movie, if we are talking about a film we enjoy for how bad it is, maybe Face/Off or Batman Forever. Oh and the Room.

In terms of overrated movies, I downright hate Mulholland Drive.
