Can you collect shit in dragon age like you could in oblivion? because thats like a deal breaker for me, if i can't have a room totally full of skulls.
Dragon Age isn't the same type of game as Oblivion. You don't just run around picking up stuff and throw it around because the developers are showing off the Havok physics. This sandbox focus wouldn't wash - the story is too tight for that.
However, I understand from the description that one of the add-on contents is a castle you can take over and staff with shopkeepers and stuff, so I guess there is some collection-like activities going on.

Just to clarify, the interface in Dragon Age isn't the kind that really facilitates picking up and arranging things carefully. It's a pretty traditional third person RPG interface. You can't really balance skulls any more effectively than you could in, say, Diablo.
So far, it's been fantastic. I finished enough of the game last night to get to the world map, which took me about 5 or so hours, but I'm likely going to restart with a different character. I don't think I really care for the sword/shield combo.
There isn't anything 'not great' about it, but Sword and Shield is mostly about stunning/knocking down enemies and you somewhat suffer offense wise. Enemies also, aren't stupid, and tend to ignore the tank and charge archers/mages- so you need to spec into some warrior skills to become a tank. And then there's the stamina upkeep for using threaten and sheild wall at the same time and arghfarlbelfidnfsa GAME IS TOO GOOD ME GO PLAY NOW BYS.
Playing as a human noble. After 2 days of adventures my characters are starting to get some better gear. Characters made it to level 7, 8, and 9. Completed the soldier's peak quest and most of the quests in Redcliffe. Also getting used to battles and not dieing every battle I enter. Looking forward to tonight's adventures when i storm the castle of Redcliffe. Also planning on starting my second character this weekend,an elf rouge.
I prefer it that way I think the conversation system is much better in kotor than mass effect and it seems dragon age has gone back to kotor style system. where you choose exactly what you say and don't have to listen to yourself say it. feels less like watching film and feels more imersive imo.
12 hours in and I'm loving it, I'm the Human Noble Warrior and sword and shield, and I really enjoy it, I still have to do so much and yet it feels like I've done so much. In simpler terms, there are a shit load of quests to do, and a brilliant story to accompany it. The only reason I've stopped is to study college stuff and I haven't had any sleep yet today and I have class in two hours.
I'm really enjoying it thus far although it isn't quite living up to the hype. Not that I expected it to be better, but different. When everyone called it Baldurs Gate III I naturally expected the game to use the rules and be set in one of the universes of DnD. Rather, the connection with Baldurs Gate seems to lie more closely with the hack and slash Baldurs Gate on the Xbox, what with simple magic and generally linear paths.
The whole Origins aspect seems rather weak to me. I've only played on one account but it seems like the origin lasts for 30 minutes at the most, I was expecting for a greater effect of your origin. Maybe people of different races treat you differently, I'm not sure.
I would have liked to see more expressions on your characters face. He just kind of stands there, like a muppet. When I killed Connor.
The child at Redcliffe who was possessed by a demon.
His facial expression didn't change one bit. I made my character look like an angry and older Keanu Reeves so it's a little bit off putting and strangely appropriate at the same time. I could nearly be watching one his movies.
Whats the deal with hands? Most of the time the animation is average to good but the hands are just plain wrong. I get that it can be difficult to do hands but some of the time they looks like straw glued to a piece of ham and other times they look normal. The blood gets a little bit annoying as well.
And while it may be a good twist on the moral choice system I don't like how your companions can start to hate you. While some of the time it makes sense, other times it doesn't.
I spoke to the villagers about evil coming from the castle. They told me that the Erl was in the castle and ill and I knew that I needed his help to fight The Blight, Morigan and Duncan even told me to go seek his help I think. So I agree to help the villagers out and then Morigan and Sten tell me that we should be fighting The Blight instead of wasting our time with a village. They surely must have known that we need to go to the Erl and to do that we would need to destroy the villagers inside.
These are just minor problems though, I really like this game. I have a feeling that I'm going to be making at least three playtroughs although most likely more I think. This is going to severely cut into my MW2 multiplayer time.
The game has one major flaw as far as I'm concerned: I can't decide on what character to play! As soon as I start a new one and finish an Origin story, I start tinking about the other possibilites, and as soon as something goes wrong in combat, I start wishing I was some other class ("Damn, I wish my Rogue could heal!" or "Damn, I wish my mage was melee, Alistair looks like he's having so much fun!". This isn't the game's fault, it's my own failing and it's frustrating! On the bright side, I'll eventually run out of Origin stories and will have to decide on one character
Also, I'd just like to point out that this is likely the first major RPG game that might potentially contain Dwarf-on-Elf gay sex, and no, not the female variety. Hell, I want to try that with my first dwarf character just to laugh my arse off at the sex cutscene...
Yes! Got it a day early (out tomorrow in Europe), on the day when I really can't afford to waste any time playing it. Ah well, I can listen to the soundtrack while working and look forward to my high-fantasy RPG blissful weekend.
The absolute only reason I am not currently playing the game is becuase my kids are awake(I just happened to get sick the day after it was released). I've found the game extremely enjoyable, best game I've played in the last few years easy. I'm about 10 hours in and thxhoices you have to make are really tough sometimes. The story writing us absolutely epic.
I started with a human sword-and-shield fighter, and grew to despise it about eight hours in. It seems like a six-button version of being a tank in WoW, and if I'd known I would be stuck behind a shieldwall while NPC damage dealers tore into the bosses I'd have skipped it. Fighting things solo is almost like being a rogue, since shield bashing things onto their asses and swinging around to hit them from behind is the most effective tactic I've found.
I started over with a dwarf swinging a two-handed weapon, and it's much more my speed. Plus I got to experience the dwarf commoner origin story, which is awesome. I love that dwarven society is shown to have a seedy underbelly just like anyone else's.
All in all, though, the combat seems like a necessary chore to me, one I have to complete to see more story. There isn't enough variety to the combat (as a warrior, anyway) to make it more than autoattacking punctuated by the occasional blown cooldown. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Maybe it improves past level 8. Maybe the combat system is just boring.
Anyway, I'll probably continue to autoattack and pop cooldowns until more dialogue pops up. The tyrannical kid in Redcliff and the Circle of Magi are awesome.
The elevators didn't help, but it was mostly... well, most of it. I didn't ever grow to care about the characters, but enjoyed that they were fleshed out, and I hated my actions not ever feeling like they actually had any sort of weight on the universe, or at least none that I could ever distinguish. The combat was slightly entertaining, but I found it got really clunky really fast in my hands...
And the Mako. OH GOD THE MAKO. That little car can go die in a fire.
I haven't been able to get my hands on any Bioware work (and my boyfriend fuckin' lost KOTR! >.>) besides Jade Empire, which I LOVED. It remains one of my favourite games to this day.
I've started my second character, a city elf rouge. For some reason I've never used a rouge as a main character before and am really enjoying being a rouge. My human warrior noble is doing well, lv. 11. Gained a couple of new companions including Shale. Well I'm off to Ferelden for a couple hours.
