What I'd like to know from OP if he reads this, would you recommend buying it full price based on your experience, or should I wait? I'd like to own it, but the reviews honestly baffle me. How can a community universally condemn a game? Oh wait, they also did this to FF13. Okay Duke, here I come!

When you say "fair" you seem to mean "saying a game I like is good". Not the same thing at all. People can complain about the gameplay, story and overall theme without having to be ivory tower types who don't understand "real" gamers.

This exactly.

If this were any other game besides a Duke game nobody would be defending it. People are just settling for "it's not the best thing ever but it is fun blah blah". Everyone is just justifying and rationalizing because of nostalgia.

Also every game review is fair. It is a review. An educated opinion and critism. Some people like it and some people don't play the game for yourself and don't worry about critics because it already seems as though you've made up your mind to like the game no matter what.

I rented it & by level 7 I was done with it. I still can't believe I played it that far as it was boring as hell & for the ppl who say "The 2nd half is better" sorry I am looking for an old school shooter that starts with a bang & ends with a ka-boom. DNF didn't deliver.
