Girlfriend finally got around to playing it. Came into my room gibbering about how much she loved it, which rapidly turned to shrieks of outrage when she discovered how long the wait would be between episodes.

Got episode 1, played it, liked it, got the season pass.
I've been looking forward to this a while.

Prolly will replay it to get the stuff I missed later.

I just gotta wonder how much bullshit'll arise. "Oh,it didn't sell well! Female protagonists can't be done anymore coz they ruin the game, and the game won't sell!" I imagine it won't because it's not that well known about, but I still hope it does do well. The game's pretty charming.

Dontnod had a great world with Remember Me, but not that great on gameplay. This game lets them create a great world, and not have to rely so heavily on gameplay. Piecing things together, warping time, changing events, making choices, I'm eager to see what'll come of things.

Read a couple of reviews and it's a no-sell for me. Sounds like a bad teen drama with no real gameplay.

Looks like a typical teenage drama with a slight sci-fi/fantasy twist. I'll most likely pick it up at some point, most likely when it goes on sale again. Since it plays like a Telltale game, I'm sure to enjoy it.

I know its petty but the whole "Lighthouse, the most erect of phallic symbols" thing has made it impossible for me to ever take this game seriously combined with the fact everyone says its teen-angst the game.

If it does choices better than TT though, I do appreciate that.

Is this seriously in the game? I don't know how perverted you'd have to be to see a dick in a fuckin' lighthouse. I think the writers are clearly trying too hard to be edgy.

Well, he could be. That doesn't change the fact this sentence sounds incredibly stupid.

It comes from a polygon article and is said with a complete lack of any irony.

http://www.polygon.com/2015/1/26/7880159/can-gamings-great-women-characters-be-written-by-men

"The game begins in a moment of extreme peril for Caulfield. I might be going too far here, but I find it interesting that she is presented, not merely in trouble, but endangered by that most erect of phallic structures: a lighthouse. Make of that what you will."

I don't think it's nesecarly the game so much as it is this polygon article :http://www.polygon.com/2015/1/26/7880159/can-gamings-great-women-characters-be-written-by-men
which has the exact line quoted. just ctrl+f and look for "light" it's the 2nd result you find

...

Oh for fuck sake. I watched the scene they're talking about there in GiantBomb's quick look on the game and there's no line about lighthouses being phallic anywhere in that scene. It's not even a quote from the damn game, but from an article WRITING about the damn game.

Why does a single line from one of Polygon's writers of all people make you take the game less seriously? If anything, you should be taking Polygon less seriously for reading something about gender inequality or sexism into a scene that literally goes "Girl wakes up outside in a storm. Girl walks towards a familiar lighthouse. Girl sees a huge hurricane thing. Lighthouse breaks and falls on girl."
Its the association. Like you know when you can't unsee Alucard having tiny cross eyes for the dots on his glasses.

Like I said, its petty but I'll never not think about that crap when I think about this game. Also from what I hear its mostly teen-drama? No one has really done a good job of selling the game to me outside of "Your choices matter more than TT games" which is cool.

Also taking Polygon less seriously is impossible because I take Polygon at a 0% serious meter.

The main reason I hadn't already picked this up was Remember Me not being a particularly good game. Fantastic world building, but poor execution. It was the second to last thing I preordered -- the last was Witcher 3 (mostly because of the discount for having the other two).

So, Dontnod releases a new game that sounds kind of interesting, does the same "publisher afraid of our female protagonist" song and dance, it's not hard to see why I might be cautious.

The game seems promising, but what I don't get is why literally everybody must imitate Telltale's shitty business model and release the game in pieces, so you have to pay outrageous prices to be able to play the whole thing. Either way, I think I'll play it in a year or five when they decide it's time to stop milking money from the customers and release the last "episode".

Err?

I paid about 15 quid for walking season 2 and got 14 hours out of it. It's hardly extortionate?

Anyway, this looks good. And its like £4 so, might try it out.

I've been watching it as a lets play on youtube (PHTC) because it's not quite my kind of game. I just barely made it through walking dead, where I actually gave a shit about the story and characters. The game itself is clunky and visually unappealing. The writing is completely underwhelming, immature and obviously targeted towards a different demographic than myself. That's not necessarily a bad thing though, since the person I am watching lets play seems to enjoy it and others do as well. It's just not my cup of tea. As for episodic content, well, it sucks and I hope anyone purchasing waits until its fully released at a discount.

Understatement of the month. Cuz Teenage life is so hard man. Not only that, the number clichés breaks the current record for computer games that I know of so far.

FUCKING EPISODIC GAMING.
I'm gonna go with this. I like the concept of episodic gaming, but in practice I just don't think they work quite yet. The wait between episodes is just too long and they can't resist the urge to leave every episode on a cliff-hanger.

I remember thinking "I would be so pissed right now if I had to wait several months to find out how this plays out" so many times when an episode of The Wolf Among Us finished.

This game seems right up my alley, but I'm going to wait until the entire season is released. Cue the next 6-12 months of carefully tip-toeing around every thread that so much as hints at the game so it doesn't get spoiled.
Resident Evil Revelations 2 is apparently releasing an episode once a week for a month or so. Just felt the need to throw that out there.
