So, after reading that thread about pens, I went on Amazon to look at things like pens, and I just bought a Zippo off of Amazon, my first real (read: not a cheap, plastic gas station lighter) lighter.

I don't really do much of anything that would justify owning a fancy lighter, I've just always wanted one.

Ever since boy scouts, where they would never let me get that badge that allowed me to get a lighter (which was probably a good thing, in retrospect), I've wanted to get one.

So, uh, yeah. Impulse buying for the win. Or loss, if you look at it from my wallet's perspective.

I'm not even going to try and explain how I went from looking at fancy pens (with no intention of buying any), to buying a lighter.

Anyways, do my fellow Escapists have any thoughts on lighters?

Despite not really using a lighter for anything, I've always enjoyed just "flicking" lighters for the flame that they give. I may well be Hooch. And as everybody knows, Hooch is crazy.

I like to have one around, you never know when you will need to burn something.
I used to have a couple of fancy ones, but I lost all of them, I remember one that was made of silver and was in the shape of a boot, I'm pretty sure it was my father's lighter but I had it [small](Along with his Swiss army knife)[/small], it doesn't really matter now since as I said I lost it.

The metal guard would get hot, then you'd really get a burn when you put it back in your pocket, assuming we're talking about them cheapy plastic ones.

I usually keep one on me since you never know when it will come in handy. I use to just keep cheap gas station ones, but now I keep my dad's zippo on my as a memento since he recently passed away. Not to mention it's an awesome blood splatter biohazard sign.

Hmmm... Was going to make a thread about impulse buying tonight... <.<

Anyway.

It burns green. I bought it in Amsterdam. I like it.

That is quite awesome...

But will it blend?

I have a pretty nice Zippo but I ran out of lighter fluid and haven't bothered to get more. The shitty plastic ones do the job just fine anyway. They're also more practical since the gas in only realsed if you hold the button down. Using a Zippo when it's windy is a pain in the ass. They're harder to protect from the wind and the gas keeps gushing out the whole time.

Oh, is that all?

I always assumed something really dangerous would happen. Like it'd explode or something.
Oh it does that. I had one pop and set my hand on fire once. It actually didn't hurt, but it did freak out the folks I was with.

I once found a lighter that had a clover and the word "Lucky" on it. I cleaned it and carried it with me. I never really used it, even for those who offered me a light; I just carried it around as a good luck charm. As fate would have it, I would lose it when I found an actual occasion in which to use the lighter.

I once had a lighter with a metal casing, featuring a naked lady blinking in different lights.
The flame itself was strong as fuck. Like a welder.

Since I'm a part time smoker(only smoke when I'm out, use snuff when I'm at home) I always have a few lighters around. My standard is one bought from Pressbyrån, which is kind of a Swedish version of 7-Eleven. Somehow they last for years!

Really? They handed out firem'n chits like they were candy ...

As for lighters:

I don't smoke, and never will start, but I had to buy a Zippo for the same reason I want a Swiss Army Knife- I just want one. The Zippo I bought has a print of Mario on the side. It's probably not a 'real' Zippo[footnote]most definitely not a real Zippo[/footnote], but it was on sale for half price, and I got it even cheaper than that.

The main reason that you shouldn't do that, in my experience, is that the lighter (whether it's a Bic or a Zippo) is that the metal cap/chimney and wheel will get really hot really quickly and you can easily burn your hand, or whatever else comes in close contact with the lighter.

I don't smoke or anything, but I like having a lighter on me most of the time. It comes in handy, sometimes, to help see in the dark or to light candles.

I like lighters. Of course, I'm physically addicted to tobacco and quite enjoy another smoke-able so I have a great deal of use for them.

I like Zippo lighters best.

I want to get one like this.

The metal cap gets very hot very quickly and you can burn yourself, others, or objects with the heat coming off the cap and some poorly designed plastic lighters can melt around the top or burn the flint in the striker leading to leaking lighter fluid or a faulty lighter.

OT: I have 2 zippo lighters even though I don't smoke, I just like the design on them, I keep a cheap lighter in my bag, you never know when you'll need one.
