Personally, I don't see what all the fuss is over the Episode III hate.

Yes, Episode I wasn't great. The Podracing wasn't THAT bad (At least we got a half-decent racing game out of it), there was little action because it was all build-up, but Jar-Jar had to die. The Episode DID have Darth Maul... and that's more or less it.

Episode II needed a script rewrite, specifically in the romance department (sadly, that was the MAJORITY of the movie). Less emo and awkward Anakin, more anger. The action was good, and we got to see what Yoda was before becoming the wise sage to Luke. We FINALLY figured out where those damn Stormtroopers kept coming from, and we saw what made Boba Fett.

But Episode III? It was almost as good as the movies in the original trilogy, in my eyes. No Jar-Jar, awesome space battles made their return, we finally saw the death throes of the Republic (and Palpatine's true 'unlimited power'), Anakin's loss of limbs, and barely any romance of the 'sandy skin' variety.

I'll say this- Episodes I & II could've been combined into one movie for all I care, but I hold III in a fairly high regard. After Empire and the original, it's a tossup between Jedi and Sith.

The Empire Strikes Back had more and better substance than everything under the Star Wars brand before or since put together. It is the only Star Wars film that I do not rate as a kids' movie. It had the best script, cinematography and direction. Every other film in the series gives me the feeling that I'm too old for this shit.

Episode 2 doesn't seem to get any love and I can understand why. Still, I think it had a couple of good points. When Anakin massacred the people in the desert, it seemed like a believable and fitting first step on his way to true corruption. I also liked the clones. The entire franchise would have been better if there had not been any aliens (other than the ones that looked exactly like humans) or droids. They were always so horribly designed. It appears that Lucas always manages to pick the worse concepts.

Phantom Menace was definitely the worse one. It made me cringe all the way through, which is regrettable, because Darth Maul is the best non-human character in the Star Wars universe. Revenge of the Sith required obscene amounts of suspension of disbelief. Return of the Jedi was pretty immature and the ewoks were bloody awful. I guess Star Wars (episode 4) was good enough, but the story was a copy of every hero myth out there.

I have hilariously low standards in regards to the things I like, and I like Star Wars, ergo I like each and every movie. Even EP:1, which still makes me scratch my head trying to figure out how old Padme is.

Oh I love the original series. Even though when I first saw it I was young had no idea what it was about and the only thing that made me enjoy the movies was the violence.... in space. But the new movies are a real cock slap.

For starters they ruin vader. If they got rid of Anakins "I'm a teenanger boohoo" crybaby and instead have him as a "I'm cleverand think things through but don't yet understand the nature of goodness" jedi.

They shouldn't have had so much violence. In the original movies most of the violence was at a climax point. But in the newer movies its like people fought every few minutes for nearly no reason.

Jaa Jaa is an abomination.

They destroyed many other characters such as yoda. They really should have kept the movies similar to the older ones and work on the plot instead of changing everything around characterwise and filling in the plot holes.

Like someone said they should have just stuck to Anakin as a young man and record his zany adventures as he become Vader.

It it just me, or does the whole thing seem like a big fan fiction? Like Lucas just kept putting off and putting off writing something until the morning when it'd due and just went on the internet and pulled whatever he could find.

You know what should be done, there should be an internet wide contest of who can write the best prequel trilogy script. Winner gets accepted into cannon ^_^

Nice to see someone else who's a fan of that fight scene, I reckon it's by far the best one of the series. It may be short but it's brilliantly fast and vicious when it's Obi-Wan and Maul one on one. Better by far than some of the fights in Revenge, I don't wanna see just the face of the character while a saber whips in and out of shot every half second.

Revenge of the Sith is the worst. The dialogue MST3K's itself.

Lucas can't bring his series back to life, only my new powers can do that!

Darth Vader is no longer a sinnister maniacal and relentless genious voiced by the limitlessly talented James Earl Jones. Now, he's a pissed off teenager who listened to an old guy regardless of better judgement.

Luke: There is still good in you father, I know there is.
Vader: It is too late, my son. I have cut myself too many times.
Luke: 0_o;
Yay for the james earl jones!
But ep1 was the worst, i mean seriously GUNGANS, they were worse than the ewoks. I always feel sorry for the troopers in the ewok fight because if they werent being forced by the all guiding hand of George Lucas to suck ass everyone would be having ewok steak for dinner, damn you george lucas, mainly because i <3 stormtroopers.

Also i have the urge to summon my friend who has an encyclopedic knowledge of all things star wars to put his view in, although i think he would crush this thread under too much nerdiness...
Well, I'm going to go against the flock here and say that I actually liked the new trilogy. I'd rather watch any of those three rather than Transformers, Pirates Of The Carribean, or any other tripe that Hollywood is currently throwing out. For one, the story's actually not bad. I personally really liked the way Palpatine managed to manipulate his way to power, and at the end actually persuaded the Republic to vote itself into the Empire. Or there's the element of Greek Tragedy that makes up Anakin's fate (he tries to save his woman, but in so doing condemns her). Stuff like that really kept me engrossed. If a film's got stuff like a good story, good soundtrack (Duel Of Fates all the way), and good lightsaber fights (come on, the duel between Darth Maul and Qui-Gonn/Obi-Wan was awesome and you know it), then I can overlook stuff like the odd crap line.

Also, not to sound like a 12 year old ADD sufferer who won't watch a film unless it's at least 50% CGI, but the new trilogy had some absolutely awesome stuff going on. All the robots and flying tanks, the exotic backdrops, the different aliens etc. In terms of design, it's way better than all the other crap that studios keep pumping out (exception made for Lotr, obviously). As someone else said, the intro to Siths was good (I thought it was bloody awesome). Same with the pod-racing, the arena execution/battle bit, etc etc.

Yes the scripting is iffy at best, but no-one ever watched the original trilogy for the dialogue. It was always about the main plotline and the actiony bits, something I think I-III does well.

And for every person who yells 'but Vader was a whiny emo', I'll yell back 'and Luke was a no-balls pussy who fancied his sister'.
Actually I quite agree, except I happened to like the Pirates trilogy... But I am and always will be a sailor at heart... The starfighter battles where what drew me in at first. I love that stuff, and the combat in 1-3 was very well done. And yes, Anakin was a whiny Emo, just as Luke was a redneck farmer... I wouldn't be surprised if he had played an electronic Banjo in the school band... But on the whole it was a pretty well done story. I think that yes, some of the acting was a little sub par, but Han Solo was the only character that actually went anywhere in real life, too... Harrison Ford is great. So are we surprised when two good actors (Ewan McGregor and Christopher Lee) who were already established are the only two in the whole Trilogy? Look at 4-6, who were the good actors? Harrison Ford and Sir Alec Guiness. This made Ford's career, and Alec Guiness was already famous. Still, good story, nicely completes the series... And I would hate to see 7,8, and 9. Unless they do one of the trilogies, there are over 70 books covering this era out to 35 years after Yavin. You add three more movies, and the timeline will be too confused. I wouldn't mind seeing Thrawn on the big screen though...

And I agree with BlackAdvent for the most part... The only reason I disagree at all, is because nothing beats seeing a Super Star Destroyer in combat. NOTHING!!!!! So Sith comes right behind Jedi on my list of favorites.
Actually, it's my understanding that the books go beyond the 35 years. I think one of the more recent ones has Luke as an 80 year old. It actually goes further than that if you want to include the Legacy series of comics as canon. The Legacy series takes place 200 years later.

And for everyone that's down about any one Star Wars movie ripping off heroes of myth and legend, I've got news for you: That's the point. The whole Star Wars series is inspired by myths and legends. Supposedly, that's what Lucas was aiming for.
