Fallout 3 isn't much of a first person shooter ... the only time the gunplay feels really awesome is sniping at range.

it comes down to the fact that FPS's like CoD rely heavily of reflex based skill with the sticks. Whereas Fallout, even though it is an FPS is more focussed on micro management and the dice rolls involved with the VATS system. Although i have still been able to enjoy blasting the head off a bandit without the use of VATs. The two genres of FPS are hardly comparable.

In the end people will also have their own opinions. Thats just something we have to deal with

fallout isnt a very good FPS

its best described as a "jack of all trades" games so nothing is really polished, its just very versitile

besides with all the brown fps around its a wonder to me why anyone would WANT to tplay in first person

Yes, other people have stated this before me, but Fallout 3 is NOT a first person shooter. It's an RPG, which happens to have guns in it. The game is built off of Bethesda's Elder Scrolls games, most notably Oblivion, and therefore was never meant as a shooter. If you do not use VATS on a regular basis in combat, you're not playing the game properly. It's why adding iron sights in New Vegas was an incredibly stupid thing to do since there's no reason for you to use them. Sure, using sniper rifles/scoped weapons doesn't make much sense in VATS, but that's why I said "regular basis". Maybe if(when) Fallout 4 is released, they'll put a bigger emphasis on the shooting, but I highly doubt it.

I can see their point. Fallout 3 is a good game but the combat is arse. I don't care how much people complain about cover based shooting, standing in the line of fire or jumping around isn't the way forward. Movement is also pretty stiff. For me, Fallout 3 is a fantastic example of how good games aren't made by how good individual components are but how they're combined.

Also, did you specify fallout 3 and/or new vegas? There is a chance they confused your meaning with Fallout 1 or 2 which are pretty far removed from the current incarnation.
