Well, to be honest, Doug did try to abandon the NC character after To Boldly Flee (some say because of an early mid-life crisis), but he pretty much had to return when his old fanbase didn't translate into his new show and he got into financial problems because of that. I would say it's less about NC and Yathzee being "bulletproof demi-gods" and more about them being trailblazers filling a niche with a stable fanbase that can support them indefinitely.Evonisia said:I get the impression that Nostalgia Critic and Yahtzee are some kind of bulletproof demi-Gods who are too cool to get sick of what they do.
Though I would also add Linkara and Angry Joe to the "perma-list". Oh, and the AVGN, who has the dubious honor of being the only internet reviewer who ever managed to pretty much abandon his original content and persona and still managed to keep his fanbase aboard with other content.
That entire hubbub was pretty much an overreaction the size of mount Rushmore from every participant. Spoony had another of his depressed/bi-polar periods and he made an incredibly dumb joke (if I recall it was about offering a place for JO in his nonexistent BDSM dungeon), to which Lupa took offense (because "durr sexism!!!"), Spoony reacted the way you would expect any bi-polar person going through a spell would react (read: badly and over-the-top), and in a day the entire thing exploded and Spoony left TGWTG.DizzyChuggernaut said:Spoony is a bit of a cock. As a reviewer I preferred him to most of Channel Awesome, especially when he held back on the skits and stuff. But he just doesn't seem like a nice person. Let's not even go into that whole Obscurus Lupa mess (I think it was her? I can't remember).
This entire incident also pointed out just how thin the "we are all friends reviewing stuff" facade the TGWTG site projected was. They were (and I presume still are) people; with good days, bad days and a lot of petty or serious disagreements between each other. It was a small wonder they managed to stick together for four years as they did...
