I liked their first two albums, after that they started sucking. But Chester Bennington's lyrics are pretty personal so that's why I like them.

None of my music preferences is based on what other people think of the music, what stereotypes it's associated with and so on, because I take my music very seriously. If I dislike a band or artist, it is specifically because I find said band/artist makes bad music. That's why when some people will say "Rihanna is crap!" I'll argue that it's a shame her voice and obvious talent is wasted in such a way. I won't bother getting into the details of my reasoning...

I think I'm literally the only person I know of a similar age that doesn't openly claim to HATE Justin Bieber. Some times I wonder if the guy is some kind of neo-nazi.

----

When people talk negatively about Linkin Park or other groups/artists I usually just nod and smile, laugh at a joke if it's funny. Getting into that carnage of a debate just isn't worth it for me, when the person your arguing with is 100% to not change their mind regardless of what you say.

Personally I'm not a fan, once again for a bunch of boring reasons that I'm not going to get into... I am, however, going to set off a tiny bomb by saying that Nickelback is not a good band... At all.

>

It sucks. No explanation, I run now!

Used to love 'em, still like 'em because the melody's are good, nothing special though. The hate is mainly because they are over-rated. Ten times better than what I see on TV today though.

Also, what hells wrong with Crawling? I guess I never saw any of these emo's you speak of.

Linkin Park has a little talent as far as i can see, but it falls into the pits of boring lyrics and an overall image and sound that stresses me out. I usually listen to music to cheer myself up, not to listen someones screaming on a mic, ruining the beatiful instrumental part of a song.
Then again, it is all about tastes, i consider them to be OK, its just that it's not really the kind of music i would listen to with an artistical eye, or ear, if you know what i mean.

Linkin Park were the band that got me into music, both as a listener and as a writer and performer. It's funny when you trace the roots of my tastes back, it starts with Linkin Park -> Korn -> System of a Down (and then suddenly) -> Arch Enemy, Nightwish, Kamelot, and pretty much all the other tasteful, respectable metal in the spectrum.

I don't listen to LP and Korn that much anymore, but I always get a kick out of it when it comes on.

Linkin park is the king of Nu metal and nu metal is the Justin Bieber of Metal..

I am grateful to Lamb of God, Mastadon , Baroness and Otep and New Wave metal in general for shining a glaring light on just how lame Linkin park truly was... least we ever forget

That is Drowning Pool just FYI not Linkin Park. And also another note is that Drowning Pool has a new lead singer who CANNOT sing that song at all.

And i don't really hate Linkin Park I do actually like a lot of their songs but not the ones that are released as singles.

No new frontman Drowning Pool finds can replace Dave Williams.

It's because they're shit.
U2 is popular as well, it doesn't make them any good.
Funny video, but I disagree.

It's all about writing a good melody and some of U2's are brilliant.

I preferred them when they followed the industrial style/formula. Once they got to minutes to midnight it sounded like they went wimpy pop.

My music taste mostly consists of 1980's industrial like Skinny Puppy and Nine Inch Nails, so the rhythm mix styles they did were slightly appealing for early albums.
This

Sounds like
???

I don't follow.

I actually did kinda feel this way. I mean, I didn't start hating them because of their fanbase or something like that. I just genuinely started getting kinda bored with their music. As I grew older, some of the past work started running together and became less appealing. There are still some classics by them I like, but their work just got, well, boring. Simple as that.

It's weird though, their newest album kinda rekindled my fandom of them a little, cuz with their change of style, I find them interesting again. Still not the perfect band, but I'm not ashamed to say it's one of my favorite albums.

Still, even if I do end up getting bored with them again, they have my respect. The guys love music, a few of the members are actually really talented, and if it weren't for them, I don't think I'd have gotten into rock and later attained a higher appreciation of music.

Heh, we weren't listening to the same album. Suns is probably their most positive work. Iredecent is sickeningly sweet relative to their other stuff.

I don't hate Linkin Park, I still like some of their older stuff although I'm not a fan of their newer stuff. The new stuff aren't the same style as the older stuff.

I used to stay away from programming and other things that would've been considered Nerdy because "Nerdy" is a negative connotation. I stayed away from things the same way you stayed away from Linkin Park.

Then I said fuck it and went with what made me happy.

OP, don't care if other people will look down on you for liking something, if they do, then there's something wrong with them, not you.

yeah I know, What I ment was that most videos used to have just Linkin Park, but videos now are still going through the Bodies- Drowning Pool phase( felt it was easier to just say the obvious lyrics to the song) and i know that the old singer died, and the new singer was from SOiL.

For me personally, it's that I feel... well, guilty by association. We all know the stereotypical LP fan, right? Little emo kid with his black hair in his eyes, writing his crappy faux-introspective poetry and listening to Crawling on endless repeat. You're not that guy: You have a life, you dress like a normal person, you go out, you most certainly don't listen to Linkin Park. When it comes down to it, I stopped listening because I didn't want to be lumped in with those sad little probably-hypothetical bastards. It got to the point where I would frown upon anyone who even mentioned the name in a positive light, even my friends and family.
I think it's wrong to dislike a band because of it's fans, you should judge them on their music not who listens to them. I see it happen a lot and it's not fair on the band. I also think it's stupid to stop liking a band because suddenly a lot of other people like them. People are weird.

I guess the fact the band changes their sound on pretty much every major album is the reason "for the hate", it's very difficult to accept an entirely new sound every time; primarily because you get used to the previous style - and if your taste hasn't diverted into their new style you're not going to enjoy the music. That much is obvious from this thread alone, just look at the vast majority discussing their first two releases, despite Reanimation appearing nearly a decade or so ago. I really disliked 1000 suns when it was first released, but after listening it it again, rather recently in fact, I have to say it's actually a damn good album.

Most of the stuff on there is very interesting, from both a musical and lyrical standpoint; in terms of sound it's very experimental - I defiantly couldn't name another already mainstream band that's attempted to go this rout in terms of their sound, and you have to respect them for it.

What people don't understand, I think, is that this isn't just Nu Metal. It's pop music. Pop isn't a genre. It's a watered down, catchy version of other genres.
People can say Beyonce' is a Pop singer, but her influence comes from R&B. It's not true R&B. It's a watered down, pop-version of R&B. And this can apply to any genre.
That's the case with Nickelback. They're a Rock band, but it's pop music. Just the same, Linkin Park is Nu Metal, but it's still pop music. Listen to Korn and listen to Linkin Park and how different the two sound, even though, technically, they're both Nu Metal. Why? Because Linkin Park is the "Pop" version of Nu Metal.

And while Pop might work for genres like Dance music, or heck, even the same R&B. Generally, when it comes to a Rock band (any subgenre of rock, including Metal and all of its subgenres) are never improved by turning 'pop'.

Of course, the other part of the reason I don't like them is that there are so many extremely nerdy people I know, (and don't get me wrong. I don't mean nerds. I mean like, the kinds of people that nerds call nerds) like Linkin Park, and try to validate themselves as being 'cool' because they listen to Nu Metal. And the thing is, these people would never listen to a band like Korn, or Adema, or Static-X. So it's not Linkin Park themselves that I dislike, it's the kind of fanbase they attract.

Personally, I absolutely loved A Thousand Suns. It was a spectacular progressive rock album with deep, thought provoking themes of humankind's evolution and (possible) self-destruction, inevitable death and the concept of rebirth. Sure, it pales in comparison to other, better progressive rock albums like Dark Side of the Moon, but LP did one hell of a job in giving people who were willing to listen (rather than nitpick) an epic experience.

As for their earlier work, I don't care for it. Give me any one of the tracks off of Thousand Suns over "CRAAAAAWLLLINNNNGGG IIIIIIIIIIIN MY SKIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNALGDSLADSGHDSAL"
