My name. It's Jonathan, so people tend to shorten it to just "Jon". But everyone I met insists on sticking a random "h" in my name. I've seen every variation ranging from jhonathan to johnn. Annoying as hell.
Cool story John. :p

I think some of you in this thread take it all to seriously. If I can read and understand what is being communicated then I can forgive all kinds of spelling and grammar mistakes. Apart from using loose instead of lose.

I?m always correcting my friend when she misspells words and uses the wrong homonym. She tends to spell things out phonetically. Even though I?m being an annoying grammar nazi, she thanks me for it every time. XD

Personally, I hate myself for always misspelling ?ridiculous?. For the longest time I was spelling it ?rediculous?. D:

Their, there and they're. Seriously people, learn them!

Oh and your and you're. The classic "your and idiot" insult usually found in the comments section of YouTube videos still cracks me up!

Not really mis-spellings I hate but when you have different ways to spell things (Ie. Colour / Color). I hate how people will try and correct you to either the American English or British English. At the end of the day, its the same word, why should you even care!

Yep, this bothers me.

I have a video on YouTube with just under 3 million views you can imagine the number of idiots commenting. Anyway, I said in an annotation that people should stop referring to Thrust SSC as simply a jet without wings and that if they knew anything about aerodynamics, they'd realise just how stupid they sound.

One American posted in reply "Dude, you can't even spell 'realize' properly"!

He didn't seem to understand that English is our language to do with as we please!

The most obvious one is confusing "Your" and "You're".

Also, mostly limited to WoW, "Rouge" instead of "Rogue".

I dont take spelling too seriously, but my name is my pet peeve. Its the one thing that annoys the hell outta me. I think your right though, as long as the point was gotten across, then the grammer shouldn't really matter.

Their, there and they're, similarly your and you're. Mostly, I just hate it when people don't use apostrophes properly. Looking at you, greengrocers (NOT greengrocer's!)

I'm a spelling stickler, so I hate the usual spelling errors, such as "They're/their" and such. Even text messaging language can be a pain sometimes. I have no problem with it, but if you use it in something mildly intelligent, well...it leads to some very nasty results.

One time I had to correct some popular kid's essay, and, seriously, you would have thought he was retarded or something. No capitalization, all the singular I's were i, you are was ur, and such.

I almost gave myself head trauma from all the head bashing I did.

Well, like I said in the first place, it's what people are actually saying that is important. It's just that, for whatever reason, I get a little irritated when people misspell definitely. And they do it a lot.

Nice avatar. What are greengrocers, by the way? You're not the first to mention this.

My own name is the subject of common misspelling, Ashkin for some reason is always mistaken for Ashton or something akin to that.

I'm not going to lie.

ALL OF THEM.

It just really irritates me when people misspell things. I mean, I can understand it if the person is not a native English speaker, but otherwise learn to bloody spell! I'm equally harsh on myself though. If I look over a post and realise I've made a mistake I'll quickly edit it, berating myself all the while.

It has to be when someone says "Intensive purposes". It's "Intents and purposes".

I rarely become angry at people for their abysmal spelling and grammar, but I don't let them hear the end of my corrections either.

Congruency errors really get to me. It's only really a problem because I live in Denmark, where we don't speak English, and that does make it more bearable. But it's still pretty basic stuff!

For example: "I are new to the escapist"

It's the same with "a" and "an"

Oh, and a grammar error that is really annoying, and very frequent in Danish is "baode, men ogsao." (Not the correct spelling, we have some extra letters that you can't see.) Directly translated into "both, but also." as in: "We need both solar, but also geothermal power."

Even journalists and news anchors say it all the time!
