Like any other person that remotely enjoyed Starcraft, I am keeping a close eye on news regarding Starcraft 2.

And one of the things I found on Blizzard's Youtube Channel was the Terran gameplay video.
And one thing I noticed made me smile a lot.

The voices of the Marines sounded exactly like their original Starcraft counterpart.
The same "Jacked up, and good to go." as I was used to.

So I wondered, what other winks to it's prequels did you enjoy in a sequel game?
Those small details that make you smile and think back on the original.

Well, Bayonetta wasn't a "sequel", but it had tons upon tons of little winks.

Also, Big Head in Oblivion was even better than Big Head in Morrowind. Mostly because of the addition of voice acting.

ME2:
The Elcor version of Hamlet coming out on video
Getting to punch the reporter again
Miranda in the elevator: 'Dammit... Why won't this thing go any faster?'
The dead Mako, trapped in Ice... hooray!

Fallout 3:
Ol' Painless (after the doc in Fallout 2)
Harold (char from F1 and 2)

The entirety of Fort Francis from Super Paper Mario was filled with winks to Paper Mario 2. Francis, the resident of the fortress, is a chameleon with glasses, and in the game he is described as "The Nerd To End All Other Nerds", so naturally his fortress is stuffed with posters and do- errh, I mean action figures of numerous characters of Paper Mario 2. Also, he appears to possess several season dvd boxes of 'Starship X-Naut', and he wants to buy a 'Ms. Mowitz-action figure with real smooch animation'. And even though you have to have played Paper Mario 2 to completely appreciate the winks, the general geekiness of them is already quite funny.

I also liked the satellite launch facility in Metroid Prime 3. It allowed you to launch probes to Tallon IV and Aether, the planets where Metroid Prime 1 and 2 took place, and get scans of them back. It appeared Tallon IV had begun to restore from the phazon, and the Luminoth were doing a great job of mending Aether back to its former state.

In God of War 2, when they brought back the Captain of the ship from the first game, anyone who didn't play the first game wouldn't get it, but we did...oh you cleaver cleaver game designers

Also, in Mile Edgeworth, while I haven't beaten it, they've brought back a lot of characters, like Oldbag and Emma and Meekins, but the best wink was when Edgeworth said "he" was rubbing off on him when he said a line that Wright would say normally, and I'm like "ah!" :D I felt awesome when I got all the references from the other games

There was a cutscene in Jak and Daxter: TLF that wink towards the last games. I forget it now, but it made me smile.

Dragon Age isn't really a sequel, but it's a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate. As such, we have Edwina the barmaid and Arl (Lord) Foreshadow, among other references.

Gah, I have so much review stuff on my plate. Working on it. I had to cancel lots of those boring games so I can get to the ones people really want.

ME2 contains quite a few.

Conrad Verner
Talitha (Only for colonist paragons)
Toombes (Only for sole survivor paragons)
And of course, the guy still trying to get his refund after two years. I want him back in the third game as a psychotic, store-owner murdering side mission.

There's a guy named Sten in Mass Effect 2. Well, he doesn't appear, but he's referenced

I was glad that in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, the prequel nods were kept to an acceptable minimum. For example, while Phoenix was in the hospital someone keeps sending him Pink Samurai DVDs. And of course, there is inexplicably continued banter about stepladders.

Miles Edgeworth (awesome game, btw) has tons of references in the first mission alone. I love how the AA games are always referencing on another.

GTA SA did this the best way possible not only have winks and cameos to prequels but also refering to Manhunt and many other games.

Monkey Island series with things like the 3 headed monkey and references to events in previous games.

I like them because they weave a veil of consitency and make the virtual world more coherent and believable.

Mass goddamn Effect 2. It's the king of these things.

The reporter.

The line Shepard says when you punch the reporter. (Mass Effect : I've had enough of your snide insinuations! Mass Effect 2 : I've had enough of your disenguous assertions!)

The refund guy. Poor man has been trying to get a refund for two years.

Conrad Verner.

Miranda flipping out at the slow elevator. She makes it go faster AND turns the music off. Seriously, she couldn't be more awesome.

"Just like old times" when fighting geth with Garrus in your squad.

MGS2, where Raiden asks Snake where he got all the gear from in Arsenal Gear, and Snake points to his bandanna and says "Infinite ammo". That gave me a good chuckle :D And when Snake reminds Otacon of the time he pissed himself because of Gray Fox. And MW2 when Cpt. Price says "These dogs are pussycats compared to the one's in Pripyat" :D
