And no, that actually isn't a joke.

YrLnF7CQ8Ac

First Thought: ...of course Japan would use this technology like this...

8SMDLnC-cMU

Second Thought: This actually is a unique way of animation, bringing a 3D aspect to 2D object. This does have the potential of being a next step in 2D animation, especially in Video Games and 2D art kind of has...reached a limit.

What are your thoughts on this new program...and the inevitable 2D girl jokes that are going to result in it?

Wow, that actually looks really awesome. I like 2D animation, because you can do things with it that you can't really do in 3D, and stuff and things.

As for the jokes, they will fall flat, since they are probably going to lack any real depth.

I regret nothing!!!

Anybody else hear the guy say 'smut phones' at 0:13?

As for the tech, I would have to see it demonstrated in a manner that doesn't come off as fucking creepy, like... uhm...

I fail to see how the demonstration comes off as creepy. Are you willing to elaborate? I am genuinely intrigued.

If they ain't careful, those Japanese fellers are gonna go the same way the Eldar did with all their hedonistic delights.

My thoughts? Very cool tech that I would like to see being used in an action or RPG style game but that ultimately won't be used in any meaningful game and will end up in rather creepy dating or harm games?

xaszatm! Look what you did! You gave these people a bad first impression with that thread title of yours. When I saw this a few days ago I only thought about it's use in games, they say they're making it compatible with Unity3D.

Now these folks have the wrong idea.

The tech is cool, the implementation is impressive if weird, I really should have browsed that video while in Incognito so I don't get any recommendations on my YouTube homepage.

In a western market the games that would use this would be pretty niche...

However it would be perfect for the in between missions narrative in Valkyria Chronicles (which my brain refuses to believe there will not be a ps4 version of out of stubborn denial) and would also be handy for games like Persona.

Colour me interested.

Hmm, the technology is pretty neat and I'm sure that it could be adapted to a wide variety of art styles, anime or not. Now it just remains to be seen if it will actually be used to do something interesting or that it'll just be used for visual novels and such.

An opportunity to interact with [my favorite] 2D characters [down the line]? FUCKING SOLD!!

Other than that, maybe they would make it so that when the device scans your SO's body, it would render it in a 2D [animated] form so that when you do interact with it, you can't say that you're not interacting with your SO... or something like that...

That poor girl looked like she was having a seizure in the first video.

In all seriousness, the thread title makes this sound creepier than it actually is. It's a really cool piece of tech that has lots of potential. I look forward to seeing how it may be implemented in future video games. Imagine a game like Team Fortress 2 done in the art style of Norman Rockwell or J.C. Leyendecker, but actually using the paintings themselves rather than a polygonal approximation of them.

Yes I'm sure perverts will jump at the chance to use it in hentai games, but that's a given with just about any new piece of video game technology.

Modular animation is hardly anything new.
From large symphony of the night bosses that consist of many stretched and rotated sprites over dragons crowns mix of meshed 2d art and frame by frame animation to animated league of legends intro screens, it has been around for a while.

Underaged-looking anime girl + touch screen = raised eyebrow.

Don't worry, I would've gotten a bad first impression even without the thread title. Japan introducing some brand new tech by way of anime girl usually does.

Useing it for sexy time stuff? Gross. Talk to me when we can use this technology to make me feel like I really am brutally murdering someone.

They introduced the tech to use drawn characters in the fashion that they typically are not. Since they are Japanese, and since most of their drawings are going to be what you call an Anime style, yes! it will be an Anime character. The entire video had nothing to do with anything sexual, nor did he touch her in any inappropriate places that I saw. In fact, he only touched near her face, and then later at the full size screen he didn't touch her at all.

People just want to make things into something it isn't, besides, this tech is being used on the Unity engine. The Unity engine is open source (I'm currently developing my own game on it for android) so anyone can make anything they want with it, and it doesn't make it any nastier than Skyrim with their sex mods.

How is it creepy? What is creepy?

Creepy seems to mean different things to different people. And seems to depend on what is "normal" in a culture. Things that aren't the status quo, like furry and foot fetishizes and "fat fetishizes" or "fat appreciation", are often called creepy.

Whether this is sexual or not, which this video isn't really focused on sexuality anyway, it wouldn't be creepy.
It really isn't a sexual video about something sexual, but even if it was, why is that a problem? People are diverse and kinky with their sexual feelings. What's the goodness or point in looking down upon someone's sexuality anyway if they aren't hurting anyone?

Sex is generally a lot more humane than violence. Even BDSM can be done consensually. But violence is almost always wrong.
I think that people should be more worried about what's ethical, than what seems "creepy" or sexually different.

What, kill the Teleri and steal their ships to continue on a quest for vengeance against some jackass and his sidekick spider?

Or did you mean those "other" Eldar?

Damn it, I came here for creepy loners fondling their waifu, all I got was a reasonably interesting video about a specialised rending technology.

In all seriousness, the title works for click bait, but it is incredibly disingenuous. The touch screen implementation was slightly creepy (more in the uncanny valley type of way), but beyond that this was completely innocent.
