Humour among the young people involves simple taking the piss out of eachother. You're trying to move for the wrong reasons.
See British comedy show 'The Inbetweeners' for explicit evidence.

The Brit

The Brit commonly will wear clothes suiting to his or her age group based on slightly warmer or more waterproof versions of last years American fashions. Rarely will you see a Brit in a top hat and rarer still in a monocle. Should you approach such a gentleman however, take note to compliment him on both these things.

When meeting a standard Brit, you may notice he will insult member of your family/ Your place of Origin/ How you say words/ Your sexuality/ Your personal hygiene. This is the Brit edging out of his or her personal shell of protection and isolation in order to attempt befriending. Insult them back but try not to sound to almighty and don't get excessive. Take note of recent stand up comedian insults. It is true that if you make a Brit laugh He/she will be a friend for life.

As an American it is likely the British will ride the piss out of your accent or not care. This is a system known as do you play video games? Many Brits harbour grudges from when we get outnumbered by Americans online and get the piss ripped into us. If a Brit insults your accent he is not being friendly and deserves a punch in the face. He also probably plays Halo. Some non gamers do this, but they're mostly trying to look cool. Punch them in the face too.

Finally take note, of the following:

Soccer = Football AND NEVER ANYTHING ELSE
American Football =/= Rugby
Though Brits believe American Football < Rugby up to your own personal opinion however.
Regular Football < Rugby (in most social circles)
Color = Colour
There is no such thing as baseball
No one cares about basket ball
Top gear is on on sunday and anyone who doesn't watch it isn't worth the effort talking to. Also under recent law changes they need to be arrested.

Comedians appear on the following tv shows:

Live at the Apollo
8 out of 10 cats
QI
Never mind the buzzcocks
The 10 o'clock show

If you already have access to the tv shows, why move to the UK at all? Just watch the TV shows where you are now.

Life in the UK is in no way similar to any of the shows you mentioned. A lot of UK humour is based around taking the piss out of itself or others. (especially Monty Python)

Only place I can suggest to go is Cornwall, because it is just epic down there, only problem is it's pretty much completely out of the way of, everything, but that's why I like it.

...so for a little while now I've been thinking about what it'd be like to move to the UK (not anywhere in particular just yet) and honestly my reasoning for doing so is completely careless and asinine. Basically what it boils down to is my newfound love for British humor, two years back I began watching the most recent series of Doctor Who and found the humor to be right up my alley. So I sought out more programming along those lines, Monty Python, Torchwood, Being Human, etc. and I found that I was hooked, I loved all the actors I saw, the (real-life) locations overseas that the shows often took place in and just began to wonder what its really like to live there...

Now I know that what I'm saying here is equivalent to someone from the UK dying to live in America just because they love "My Name is Earl" which, frankly is pretty silly. :)

But what I'm looking for here is an opinion, I'm looking for someone to bring me back down to earth and tell me how it really is and if its worth moving there someday. So From all my fellow escapist's who live overseas, is it a good place to be or not?
I'm a British guy who wants to move to America because I watch the NBC show Community xD
No but seriously I just like the American culture in general (even though I agree with what you said about our humour)

One piece of advice I can give you if you want to visit (or live) in the Uk is to keep to the south as much as possible.

No more north than london, and no more south than scarbrough.

Why i say this is because most places in the north are either very rough, in poverty, or generally not very nice (such as stoke on trent, Birmingham, Manchester, and Ipswich). Near enough everywhere in the south is normally very nice, and that's where I live (Southampton). The lake district area I hear is very nice also.
Erm....Trolling?
There are lots of very nice places in the area between the capital and Scarbrough, most of Yorkshire isn't 'rough, in poverty(wtf?) or generally not very nice' thank you very much.

Also before I forget, Winchester is one of the best British places to live (and it's smallest city) everyone will love you in Wales and Scotland is ok if you can get past the accent and stabbings.

This is a lie, although where i'm from in London is nice, there are many rough areas near me. Also i'm currently at university in Southampton, and even though i love it, there are some pretty scummy bits there. The north isn't bad at all, Manchester and Birmingham are actually lovely cultural cities. Also Ipswich isn't up North it's in Suffolk.....

OT. I'd say take a holiday here first, i love living in England it's got pretty much anything you could ever want.

I myself live in the Yorkshire Dales near Harrogate and York. It has some of the most beautiful countryside and friendliest people I've ever met in the UK. It's also the second richest area in Britain after Central London, so not rough or poverty stricken! Easy access via road or train if you want to travel up and down the country and without the insane prices you get down South.
Are you me?

Really? I live in Leicester.. the city itself is pretty grotty and the transport systems are awful :p I live about five miles out in the suburbs, which is admittedly pretty nice, but i still have to go into the centre sometimes and its not a lovely place to go...
Well shit, I'm there right now. Drop by the Leicester Uni Gamesoc sometime.

England sounds cool. Unless of course, you are middle eastern. Bit of a problem with them there.
N'aaw. Only if you're obviously a Middle Eastern Muslim. My family is from Iran of all places and most people don't even notice! =D

OP! MOVE TO DEVON!

Come live in Exeter. It's an awesome place when they remember to collect the bins.
Ahhh, Devon.

Cornwalls retarded incest cousin :p Lol jks

Anyways, England fucking sucks at least from the perspective of Cornwall. Which is actually just as shit as Devon and everywhere else in England

I live in northern england and i take major offence to this...
its not a horrible place to live and it would seem your basing your opinion on what you see, not what you have experienced, the north in general all be it isnt the brightest place to live, and of course not everywhere is upmarket and filled with flowers and rainbows.
but for the most part its a nice place... i dont think its fair to judge an area like that i like the south of england myself also but i wouldnt say we are drastically different =/

Don't. Cost of living vs the US isn't good.

Your only trump card is the lack of need for Health Insurance.

Please note me, I am someone UK born, and has lived in both.

What you see is a refraction. I'm not saying you shouldn't try living abroad for a while, though. In one place, I mean. I'd recommend trying the North before you try the South. Presuming you're talking about England, as you almost undoubtedly are.

It's a pretty good place to live, from a man who's lived in the U.K., other countries, and come back. I'll most likely leave again, but England's my home.

Seconded. Get over your irrational bias against the north. Have you tried living here?

I speak as a man from one of shittiest parts of southern England.

Sheffield's not Henley, and I'm fucking glad. I'm glad it's not London, Oxford, Brighton, or Penzance, too.

I'm glad it's not Colchester, Ipswich, or Thetford.

Not everything in the South sucks, but it's not "grim up North", and the people're glad to show you that. You might see a few less Wagamamas, but people still do their shopping at M&S, those that can. We've got our own stuff.

You might say Barnsley's a shithole... look at Dagenham.

Fair enough. My group of friends does have a similar sense of humor to what the OP is describing, but aside from that, there is still piss taking.

Yeah, speaking as a Northener I can tell you we aren't poverty stricken, we just cry snob every time someone gets a 4 foot TV.
