Uh... Robert Burns met Charlotte Hamilton here.
Plus, an Archbishop of Canterbury grew up in the same part of town (Archibald Tait).
Those are probably the most notable events.

Take that as you will.

Slurpee capitol of the world, umpteen years running. It was -20something this morning, -30ish with the windchill. We have snow 6 months of the year, and we still drink more frozen beverages than anyone else.

We're and odd people.

A soldier from our city was the one who found, raised and donated Winnie (later 'the Pooh') to the London Zoo.

The Second World War?s most famous spymaster Sir William Stephenson, the man called Intrepid, was the inspiration for Ian Fleming?s 007. He was born and raised in Winnipeg. (From http://www.tourismwinnipeg.com/visitors/facts-trivia )

We invented 911.

... And lots of other things. We're kind of awesome. But still odd.

My lovely city of Rahway has a local tavern that was visited by George Washington, though I don't know when. And my backyard may have been the site of a local Quaker graveyard, but that hasn't been confirmed. Just some local lore.

There was a very colorful & well known Native American chief who lived here as settlers began to overrun
the area. The nearby town of Niwot is named for him, and Left Hand canyon was supposedly named so because
it is where he lived and he was left-handed. As he and his people were being herded off to the reservation,
he placed a curse on this area. And the curse appears to be coming true.

I live in the ONLY (I shit you not the ONLY) state/town/city etc in the western world where Coca Cola is not the most sold beverage. What is the most sold you may ask?

I hate to disappoint you, but you just so happen to be beaten by an entire country. In Scotland, significantly more Irn Bru is sold that Coco Cola.

Anyway, the university in my small, Welsh town just so happens to be the oldest in Wales. Probably.

Shrewsbury, Shropshire:

Birthplace of Charles motherfucking Darwin! We make as much of it as we possibly can, despite the fact he only lived here until he was about 16 I think.

And also Joe Hart, current England football team goalkeeper was born here and played for the mighty Shrewsbury Town Football Club as a younger player.

We also have the largest Grecian doric column in the world. What the hell is that, I hear you ask?

'Tis this;

Wellington, Somerset. The Duke of Wellington took his name from the town, so we have another nation's capital named after our town.
The first steam locomotive to travel faster than 100 miles per hour did so going past Wellington, the engine "City of Truro" in 1904.
Fox's bank (now owned by Lloyds TSB) was the last bank in England permitted to print its own banknotes.
If you've ever been past on the M5 and seen the big monument between Taunton and Tiverton, that was built by the town to commemorate the victory at Waterloo. It was not completed until well after the Duke of Wellington had died and the town ran out of money for the Waterloo artillery pieces they'd bought to stand near the obelisk and as a result, some of them wound up being used as mooring posts at Exeter Quay.

In 1565, we fought back a massive invasion from the Ottoman Empire, with the Knights Hospitaller at our backs, in what's known as the Great Siege of Malta. They had around 48000 troops, whereas we had around 8500.
Basically, this victory paved the way to diminish the perceived invincibility of said Empire around the world.

Tell us something interesting about the town/city/cave in which you currently reside.

Me, my home town of 100 Mile (B.C., Canada) was founded by a cult which still operates to this day, hooded robes and strange rituals intact.
Winchester is home to King Arthur's round table.

EDIT: Oh, almost forgot, the UK's oldest pub. Established about a thousand years ago, or something, though obviously the building has been renovated repeatedly since then.

Don't go there. It used to be really good, but then they tried to make it posh, and now it's shit.

Tomb raider was apparently origionally created in Derby, I believe that is why there is a road named after Lara there. according to wikipedia "The city has Roman, Saxon and Viking origins." which is kind of interesting and is certainly something which ought to be mentioned whenever someone asks the question "what have the Romans ever done for us?" vikings are cool also, what with their fascinating mythologies and history of using ingenious techeniques to navigate the sea, find new lands and found colonies and such like. I can't think of anything interesting about the saxons at the minute and im too tired to read anything anymore so it's probably best to move on..

Burton on trent is the self proclaimed brewing capital of England, its also where the marmite food extract company was formed and may well be where the spreadis still produced.

Mary queen of scotts was once imprisoned at Tutbury castle.

I actually live about a quarter mile from that cabin, and have been inside. Cigarette butts and beer bottles, it's sad.

There was a supposed UFO sighting here several years back.

"Several years" as in about 62 years.

Anyways, it's supposed to be one of the most famous UFO sightings out there, and ever since then, my town has an annual UFO festival.

It's pretty cool.

It's home to the wettest spot on Earth.

...

...

...

Also a number of movies were filmed here, such as well-loved classics like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and George of the Jungle.

Oh, and some dinosaur movie.

I live in the last place in the world that I actually want to live.

But, I live near Toronto in the province of Ontario which is a much more interesting place. Here is a fun fact, there are more people that live in Toronto than in Canadas four Atlantic Provinces combined. Which is New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland/Labrador and Nova Scotia. So basically, I live near way to many fucking people. Toronto's population is 2,615,060.

I can't way to move east.
