I read recently of boss battles in FF XI (the MMO) which went on for EIGHTEEN HOURS. That's just a little excessive.

I bet the loot isn't even worth it :)

Aha, here's the article

People actually quitting because they were too ill to go on...

While not quite what you mean the final boss of Paper Mario 2 took me over a year to beat. I died like 10 times in a row cause I had no items, couldn't find my way back to a shop and so gave up. came back a year later, found a shop almost instantly >.> and beat the boss first time.

Revive priority aside, may I ask what gambits you used, and in what order did you have them in? Yahtzee'll call me insane for this, but I'm hoping to hook up my PS2 up again sometime in the future and play through the game if only to go toe-to-toe with the creature again.

As I've stated before, I went into that fight less prepared than I should have been. Hell, I considered myself lucky to have brought it down to half it's HP. Then again, it was my first time fighting it, so any help for when I finally fight it again would be greatly appreciated. =P
I think it was something like this

Party leader (In my case Zodiac Spear equipped)

Self -> Arise
Ally: any -> Arise
Self: HP Curaja
Ally: any -> Esuna
Ally: any -> Hastega
Foe: Status = Protect -> Dispel
Self: MP Charge
Foe: nearest -> Attack

Other party members (In my case Tournesol and Murasame equipped)

Party Leader -> Arise
Ally: any -> Arise
Ally: HP Curaja
Ally: any -> Esuna
Ally: any -> Bubble (or just use Bubble belts)
Ally: any -> Hastega
Ally: any -> Shellga
Ally: any -> Protectga
Ally: any -> Faith
Ally: any -> Bravery
Self: MP Charge
Foe: nearest -> Attack

The status effect ones can be spread across the party members for them to have different priorities, though I'd advice everyone to have Hastega in their list. Instead of Esuna (or maybe Esunaga, but maybe that's something best cast manually when necessary), you might want to use Chronos Tears and Gold Needles, but I like it this way.

Final Fantasy VII's final boss fight. Yes I know Emerald and Ruby take much longer to defeat on a good day, but here is my reasoning. Super Nova his super attack. That has got to be the most ridiculously long animation for a single attack ever. You have time to get up go take a piss, make a sandwhich and then , casually sit down and get comfortable and the fricking blast hasn't passed Jupiter yet.
