Fruit basket on torrents - 26 episodes took like 48 hours. although i ordered them so 1-6 finished first, 7-12 second, so i didnt actually really have to wait as the first batch waas done overnight.
also oblivion took similar amounts of time. although i own the disk, my sister thought shed piss me off by scratching it so it didnt work, so needed to download to re-install.

I think the longest I waited for one thing was 3+ months, however that was 50 or so GB of video, and I had it prioritized so that the first seasons where finishing first, making it watchable much sooner, and I had actually watched about half of the series before it finished downloading.

At 4.9 gigs on a 56 K connection, it took me about 8 days to download just about everything I needed for Battletech :D.

(And many of them were RAR files, too).

Back in the hazy days of 12k, a full DOOM 95 download just took... about a week. And I waited for it.

Apart from that, recently I tried to download a file named : the_Simpsons_allEps_HD.zip
... Suffice to say that if I cleared my hard drive of everything, I would have 2GB's left after these extracted.

Impractical.

My torrent of the silence of the lambs was added on the 26/07/OH EIGHT.

And is still going

Edit: probably also worth mentioning WoW taking an entire 24 hours and the BETA for Metal Gear (4) online taking a solid 2 days. For a background process though that film takes the sodding cake.

When my housemate first got HL2 he still had dialup, it took 3 days to unpack/unencrypt the files so that he could play.

My policy on downloads is: "If it takes longer than an hour and isn't a critical update for something, it ain't worth it."
Kids today! When I was little, getting games off of happypuppy.com, back when was a valid and acceptable divider and the most complicated internet sites used tables, when it was OK to have all your text and links the browser default font and color, I would regularly wait for hours and hours to download those BIG games on my 28.8k modem...or the 14.4k fax/modem on my laptop. (I might add that this laptop, an NEC UltraLite III, had a monochrome screen, 40MB HDD, and attachable 3.5" floppy drive.)

The rule of thumb in those days? 1MB=1 hour.
