Have you ever looked up at the stars? In my opinion they are beautiful thousands of twinkling little light dancing up there in the skies. But when I think of how many stars there are in the sky, sometimes I realize just how small we really are on this blue planet we call Earth. Do the people here on this forum like astronomy? And do you think we are alone?

I haven't looked up to the stars at night in a long time.
shame really, it's a beautiful sight when the sky is clear.
and chances are, we aren't alone.

I like nothing more than to sit out on my yard and look up at the stars. I haven't really decided wether or not I believe in aliens.

I took an Astronomy Course once. It wasn't fun. From now on I keep my eyes to the floor.

I like to look at the stars atop the hill, on those rare nights when its snows, and then during the even rarer times when the clouds will part to let me see.
Listen to some Enya, some Jem, even a little Royksopp...

That's a priceless time, and could only be made better with some good company.

Don't let school ruin the beauty of the night sky for you, book and lectures cant show you what the sky can

I have more of a fascination with the moon than the stars. I can stare at that thing for hours. Stars are nice and all, but for some reason the moon draws me in more.

I like looking at the stars from here on Earth, they look nice twinkling in the distance. However, if I watch a program on the discovery channel filled with constant images in space.....I tend to feel alone, insignificant and even a little depressed until I can change the channel. I also do not think we are alone in the universe. Scientists believe the universe is infinite, there must be something out there somewhere...

Ah the moon. The one place other than Earth humans have left their foot print on, shinning up there in the sky. I can see ones fascination with the moon, and how it can attract your gaze.

because deep down you know that Luna is the next step for the Human race?
It is the First step on the road to our never ending crusade against the stars!

On top of that hill is a flag waving proudly, with a bright light shining upon it.
The snowfall is also illuminated...
Sometimes I can see the bats flying about, too. Lord knows what they're eating...
Perhaps they like the snow, too!

You have a way with words. I can see it now illuminated in my mind, your words painting the picture.

Never against the stars, thats what got us into trouble here on earth,
Drawing this out a bit, I come to my conclusion about extraterrestrial life. We have existed on this planet for at least 100,000 years and are just now getting to the point where we can make it to our moon, and just barely at that. Life may indeed exist elswhere, however, just how long has the cycle of evolution been in place there and how many light years away is it? Our understanding of physics may be miniscule but we understand that traveling at or past light speed is still at very least 100's of years away. What makes us think that even if there is other life, we will get to see it? The odds are far beyond astronomical.

Would it kill the mood to say that I just spent the last four hours playing God of War? Well, I guess its that I did my Asian Religion homework after I beat the game that's put me in this mood.

To each to their own. It would not kill the mood, what ever puts you in the mood, I'm glad, you made my night a little brighter with your lovely words.

Apparently there's an equation out there which predicts the number of inhabitable planets in the universe. But you need to know how many suns there are in the universe before you can work it out.

I have a tendency to look up at the stars on my way home from parties, slightly swaying and contemplating existence.
Yes, they're beautiful.
And yes, we're small. But there isn't a place like this anywhere near us (I don't think we're unique in the galaxy though, not to mention all the other galaxies out there).

the stars are amazing but i never get the felling I'm small and unimportant, i bet there are aliens and as Calvin and Hobbes said; the proof is, they haven't contacted us
