I just finished jade empire and loved it. Looking for another good rpg.

Everyone hypes up planet scape torment and baldur's gate, should I give it a go?
I'm not sure, but I think neverwinter nights is more of a multiplayer game?

Any recommendations are welcome ;-)

( I've played the mass effects, kotors, witchers, skyrim and even alpha protocol)
Mount and Blade Warband.

Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallouts 3 and New Vegas, anything from the Tales of series, just off the top of my head

(also to the inevitable jerk who calls me out for bad taste for also recommending Kingdoms of Amalur, I would like to preemptively say "SCREW YOU, it's MY opinion")

Oh and Torchlight

Lost Oddysey. It's a JRPG that's really quite good. Made by the Final Fantasy guys before the series went to shit. Some deep themes and the combat isn't annoying.
I agree. It is one of my favorite RPGs of all time. 4 DVDs worth of content and heavy Final Fantasy 4 undertones. Speaking of which, FF4 is my favorite Final Fantasy game.

If you like Torchlight, you will love Titan Quest. TQ is basicly Diablo 2.5 with a eight classes and a duel class system.

If you have a PS2, GET PERSONA 4. It's 80+ hours
This usually means it sucks. Especially if it's the first positive point that is mentioned about the game.

Or, if you're that guy that doesn't like JRPGs, get The Witcher 2. Apparently it's good. Dark Souls and Demon's Souls are great, too.
Isn't Dark Souls a JRPG?

I'd go NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer. Best CRPG single player campaign I've played, I think.

If you want a different experience, you might try Lost Odyssey. It's a JRPG in the vein of Final Fantasy created by much of the original brain trust behind FF no less. If you really want to go classic though (and by classic, I mean some of the best gaming to be had... ever), find a way to play final fantasy IX. I think most people would agree that it's the best one; it's just got such a unique flavor to it... god I love that game.

I think im gonna try planetscape first ( many a bioware employee said they were inspired by it), should I read a guide on the mechanics before playing it? Some posts here made it seem as if the game isn't very intuitive to newcomers.
I really don't get why PS:T has this reputation for being inaccessible.

Like reading books? Well, then you're probably going to enjoy the very well written dialogue in PS:T.
Can you comprehend the basics of the AD&D 2nd edition ruleset? Then you should have no problem whatsoever with PS:T's very streamlined version thereof.

Really, PS:T is, IMO, far more accessible than, say Baldur's Gate 2. BG2 expects you to get the hang of dozens of spells, items and classes almost immediately from the start. PS:T just expects you to have an open mind (and yeah, go through *a lot* of dialogue) when exploring a world that doesn't rely on the usual fantasy cliches.

If you're looking for something more mass-effect or Deus Ex like... VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE BLOODLINES. I cannot recommend that game enough. It's incredible. One of THE best games I have played this year. Good setting, characters, and writing, and pretty decent gameplay (It's got some flaws, but it's still pretty good)

Although you DO need the unofficial fan made patch to make Bloodlines run. Otherwise it's literally unplayable. So get that patch and then enjoy this absolute GEM of a game.
Never played Bloodlines with anything but the official patches and still found it sufficiently bug-free to enjoy. A lot.

Especially considering it's coming from BlackTroikObsidian.

Persona 4,also known as my all time favorite game.
Dark Souls, a game I just recently fell in love with.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R, all three are good IF YOU INSTALL THE COMPLETE MOD
I take issue with that comment. While I am not saying the mod is bad, it is not the pan-ultimate must have. Vanilla is still pretty darn good on all three and there are a plethora of other mods, the use of which really comes down to personal preference, given the person is willing to spend time setting the game up to their taste(which if you are familiar with the mainstay of the community, a lot are doing).

If fps/rpg hybrids interest you I would suggest checking out the demo for E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy. It is rough around the edges but still had more fun playing through that then any game for a few years now.

I'm a little wary of AD&D ( don't even know what that means) but if the games are good enough i'll learn the systems.
AD&D is Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. Don't be mislead by the name, it's an earlier version of the ruleset that is used in KOTOR (that's based on D&D 3rd edition. AD&D is second edition). All in all, it has its differences bu the fundamentals are the same - a d20 roll and modifiers. The most confusing thing is THAC0 - To Hit Armor Class 0. It's sort of "hit chance" but reversed - lower is better. But here [http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/187975-planescape-torment/faqs/8566] is a better explanation of the system.

It's from Japan, but it's very western in style. JRPGs traditionally have some form of turn-based combat.
Hmm, you may be right. Sadly, traditionally so did WRPGs ... Until Bethesda came along.

Still, Dark Souls feels like a JRPG to me when I play it. Hard to explain why, maybe the "YOU DIED!" has something to do with it.

Another vote for New Vegas. It's probably one of the best RPG experiences around today, despite being so old.

..and I'll just throw my hate in with a -1 vote for Dark Souls. The premise is good, but the implementation (especially on PC) is annoying.

...

Well, it takes place over an entire year, so it has to be that long. Besides, many people that played the game wish it lasted longer because the world and characters are so great.

Isn't Dark Souls a JRPG?
Yes, technically, but the gameplay is designed like a western rpg.

Pools of Darkness:
Strategic turn-based combat? ✓
Full party control? ✓
Isometric view? ✓
Arbitrary difficulty level based more on skill with a controller than tactical skill? ☓

Not to say those things are the hallmarks of WRPGs, but yeah. Good try though.

You correct the spelling on PST and mess it up on BG. Your bias is showing.
Baldur's Gate > Planescape: Torment for me. The first is just a better all-around RPG experience.
Actually you can blame my spellchecker for that one. I had it with a U, and the spellchecker didn't like that, so rather than checking via google, I just went with what it suggested.

BG is good, but it's setting is just Forgotten Realms D&D - so far so standard. If one is looking for a fantasy RPG, then one will be satisfied.

Planescape: Torment is an almost entirely unique RPG experience. The setting (the Planescape D&D setting, which is off-the-rails even in tabletop format) is bizarre and wonderful. So it the gameplay - it is literally possible to get through the entire game without combat - just by talking past enemies or talking them to death. Or you can kill everything that moves. Or a combination, a middle ground between the two extremes.

I have never played anything else like Planescape: Torment. I have played other games similar to BG.
