Baccano has some intense gory scenes in it.

However if your looking for a romance comedy than Clanned is a good choice and so is Ouran High School Host club, it's very funny and has a hint of romance between the leading male and female.

Also for supernatural and horror themed anime, then I would like to sugest a personal favourite of mine, Shiki.

Watch the three episodes they made of the Legend of Koizumi. Not sure if it'd appeal too much without a decent knowledge of politics and history and they don't make it near as far as the infmaous "romantic hilter" scene from the books, but it was an enjoyable hour of my life. I laughed.

Also: How have you not seen Gantz? The show is kinda sketchy in pacing but it's still brilliant. I basically only watch anime based on reocmmendations, but this one stood there along side Death Note and the Ghibli films as one recommended by non-fans of the medium. The story is great because the writer clearly hates his characters. No wannabe Mary Sues or other creepy crap, just realistically horrible people.

If you like it, the comic continues on to this day (they're wrapping it up about now) and theres a live action movie too. Its pretty clear why the anime failed to continue when you read on. Even in Japan after midnight, some parts, espeically the Osaka arc would never be allowed on network TV, holy crap. The anime had to finish up with an original arc (with some anti-W Bush non-sequitor villain-rant) to avoid toning shit down on the source material. But the violence and other assorted horrors never feels superfluous, its some what requisite to pushing the themes of the story.

Getting on a bit now, but the classic parody-series Excel Saga was always good for a laugh. PUDDING! NOOOOO!!!

You've seen Higurashi no Naku Koro ni?
Then try watching Umineko no Naku Koro ni.
I'd say it is easily more gory/confusing than the series that came before it. Same universe, a couple of cross-over characters.

Watch Cowboy Bebop...no seriously, you should watch it. Hellsing Ultimates a good one to, but that hasn't finished yet.

EDIT: Whoops, already seen Monster. Good call, btw.

Then seconding Speed Grapher and throwing out Flag. Yes, really.

I'm seeing a grand lack of Clannad and Clannad:After Story. If you want romance/comedy, you most likely won't find one better. I also see Shakugan no Shana, so you may like Toaru Majutsu no Index and Toaru Kogaku no Railgun, both done by the same studio.

But really, check out Clannad.

Gory, eh?

Like some people have mentioned, Baccano! is quite violent and gory. One character covers himself in blood and acts nutty for the rest of the series, and one hitman character acts like a less-than-subtle version of Mr. Blond from Reservoir Dogs. Yeah, it's not a very subtle series but I enjoyed it very much. The way they tell the story is quite unique (from what I know): it's done non-linear and "doesn't have a main character". The characters were all likable in their own way though the last two episodes felt tacked on. But where else are you going to find a show about immortal crime syndicates?

But if you don't feel like sitting through an entire series, perhaps you may enjoy the one-shot anime Dead Leaves. Very bloody, violent, and out of its goddamn mind. The art complements this well: no traditional styles or moe here, instead it goes for a sort of graffiti, jagged style. Off the bat, the main characters wake up naked with amnesia and immediately go on a crime spree or clothes, food, and just for shits. My description here doesn't do the anime any justice. Think Superjail! if it was made in Japan and a lot more electronic.

According to your list, you've never seen Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo. I recommend both of them highly since they're both excellent animes and both actually have fantastic english dubs.

Wow, only one more vote for Clannad. Best romance/comedy too. Really?

Edit: Oh, I see you haven't watched it yet? Clannad. Watch it nao. Yuki demands it.
Your Yuki isn't the only Yuki to demand Clannad. They all, demand Clannad.

Clannad Romance/Comedy

It's one of my favourite anime series of all time. The movie made me cry more then anything. (within the realms of entertainment)

Here's a few of my favorites in the listed genres. I enjoyed them all immensely, but as with all options, your mileage may vary. Also, Clannad is the first show that has ever made me cry in my whole life, so that's saying something.

Romance/Comedy/Drama:
Clannad (Rather emotional, I won't spoil anything.)
Clannad: After Story (Even more emotional than the first one.)
Ōkami to Kōshinryō (Spice & Wolf if you must have dubs for whatever reason.)

Action/Comedy:
Cowboy Bebop (Standard-fare space opera, sets the bar high for the genre.)
Outlaw Star (More of a comedic take on the space genre, but quite good.)
Trigun (An action-type old west vibe to this one, lots of shooting.)
Soul Eater (An interesting take on the halloween theme in this fantasy.)

Gore/Action/Drama:
Mnemosyne (I hope you love your gore.)
Gantz (Do not watch if you're a minor, or have parental units who care what you watch.)

Action/Mystery
Death Note (More of a fantasy mystery.)
Meitantei Conan (If you enjoy forensics/detective work, this is a good pick.)

I recommend gantz. Very gory / supernatural. Good too, but as soon as it finishes you'll be left wantning more. But for that you'll have to watch the anime.

I am disappointed at my fellow Escapees for not mentioning a true legend.
