Deathnote, definitely. It's supernatural, kind of a mystery thing, except you know the answer already.
A lot of people complain about how it's quality sharply drops after a certain event (you'll know) and I do agree, to a point. But I think it's still great after that, just not as great.
So yeah. Deathnote.

From your preference outline I'd advise Shiki. I just got 'round to watching past the first episode and finished it in 2 days.
In my opinion comes in as the 4th best anime of last year.

Edit:
And somebody just reminded me of Gantz.
Though I would STRONGLY advise the manga over the anime.

Quite a list but I don't know if you're looking for anime series or films, or if it matters.

I would recommend against Gurren Lagann and Cowboy Bebop, both are only sort of okay imo.
I do instead support Trigun and Deathnote, which are both fairly good.
Of course the greatest would be Haruhi Suzumiya but you've already seen that.

Valkyria Chronicles - It has romance, comedy, seriousness (it's during a war after all), supernatural and some mystery in it.

Clannad. Reasons why are already mentioned by other members better.

Speed Grapher - romance, comedy, supernatural stuff, and a whack plot like you have never seen before.

Escaflowne is one of my favorites, always loved Gundam Wing too.

I don't care what anyone says, Digimon was the shizz back in the day(early seasons and movies).

Wasn't there an anime called Dead Book or something? My ex was obsessed with it.

Try Kino's Journey (Kino no Tabi.) So far, it's probably the only anime series I have really enjoyed, mainly because of the engaging storylines of each episode.
It's a sci-fi/post-apocalyptic adventure, so I don't know whether or not you'd enjoy it. I sure did.
Oh, and there's a talking bike.

Geezus you've watched alot of bad and very bad anime.

Cyber City Oedo 808, The Guyver, Spriggan, Desert Punk, Ergo Proxy are some of my fav anime, all relatively unknown or not so popular because you know, most anime fans have terrible taste.

Ghost in the Shell in all its incarnations is also quite amazing, if you haven't watched those movies and the two series you are seriously missing out.

Yeah, strongly agree with this post.
You haven't seen Ghost in the Shell? It's brilliant.
I don't even get into anime, but I get a lot of it thrown at me by my friends who do.
Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop and Now and Then, Here and There are some of the few ones that even as a non-anime-lover, I can really, really appreciate. As far as movies go, the second Vampire Hunter D movie, Bloodlust, is also fantastic.

This, either you watch the alternative version or Brotherhood. They're still both good(I still prefer FMA: Brotherhood tho)

Not that you asked for it, but Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann! It's one of the most awesome anime's there is.

Bit more like what you asked for would be Ergo Proxy, an awesome anime that kinda slipped under the radar.

Escaflowne It would be my favorite anime ever if the ending... v this v ...but it is still really awesome.
wasn't extremely fucking terrible, even by anime standards >=/
Gurren Lagann is awesome, give it a try.
Ghost in the Shell is my favorite anime of all time, it is not comedy/romance, but it is made of fucking win. Watch it if you enjoy good.
Digimon is awesome, and a part of my childhood. Season III is where it's at. Fuck Davis and Tai!
Death Note? Most girls love the shit out of Death Note. A friend of mine loves it, and she doesn't even watch that much anime. Death Note is extremely good, and you should definitely watch it.
Birdy: The Mighty is my second favorite anime of all time, because it is one of the only anime that I have EVER seen to pull off romance in such a way that doesn't make me gag, facepalm, or go "oh, generic anime romance... sweet...". It is action/sci fi/comedy/romance/win. Watch it right now.
Panty and Stocking is so silly, but so very win. Should definitely check it out.
Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom is extremely similar to Darker than Black, and very good. Thinking about buying it, but I've spent so much money on anime in the last couple months... soon though :D
Ikki Tousen and/or Sekirei are sorta romance/action, but I enjoy them because it is silly and has comically huge boobed girls fighting :D
Well, Ikki Tousen doesn't have as much as Sekirei, but they are made by the same studio, and Sekirei was made after, so they had time to learn from their mistakes ^_^

Best of luck!
Props to most of the other anime that everyone else has posted, they're mostly really great to watch too.

Edit:
I forgot to mention Gundam Wing!
I suggest you don't watch it, or if you're going to watch it, just watch the first season (the only good one).
The rest has laughable "plot", and the action sequences aren't even that good.
The romance is silly and generic anime romance too, something you can get from the "sexual tension" between Ash and Misty.
If you have the urge to watch Gundam, I suggest you first watch the ancient (but still very good) Robotech and/or Macross/Macross Zero. Both are vastly superior to Gundam.

You can also ask /a/ on 4chan for anime references, they really know their shit.

Ergo Proxy is probably my favourite anime, but don't think it really fits "gory, horror, supernatural, Mystery, or romance/comedy" in any way shape or form.

Ergo Proxy's problem is that it came out in 2006 :p
EVERY anime of 2006 (well, that I've seen, and I've seen quite a lot) was excellent. Ergo Proxy appeals to a fairly limited audience as it is, so being drowned out in the legendary 2006 didn't help it...

I am disappointed at my fellow Escapees for not mentioning a true legend.

[HEADING=1]Cardcaptor Sakura[/HEADING]

Because it is the greatest series ever. Period. Foeva.
Too bad the cut down dub was an abomination... but it still makes my nostalgia centers tingle...<.<

OT: Serial Experiments Lain... watch it, watch it now!!! It's the second coming of Jesus...

and watch Ergo Proxy... it was pretty awesome... also Radiohead's Paranoid Android is the ending song... that's all I should need to say...

For romance/comedy I know just the perfect show for that, Tenchi Muyo (wow is there no love for it since I'm the first to mention it in this thread?).
There are a few series to it which can be confusing because each series is different (same character but the story on how they met each others is different between the series).
I can only suggest that you should watch Tenchi Muyo first (the first series whish which the anime quality was in the 90's) and then watch Tenchi Muyo: Ryo Ohki (the sequel to it which the anime quality is more modem.

Watch some of the older anime like, Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, Genocyber.

In terms of gore these will hold your attention. Especially Genocyber, that stuff was fucking sick... The bad kind of sick.

Elvenlied (However its spelt) and Hellsing are very good gory animes. Personaly I like Hellsing in terms of its gore because it doesnt go over-board and keeps it within the actual Animes story plot.

A fellow PROXY lover eh? Also I'd say it kinda fits... I mean, what would you call the PROXYS and the whole conspiracy stuff? I'd say it's a bit supernatural at the very least... :3

Also, I wonder when we're gonna get AutoReivs of our own..? That would be awesome, don't you think? :3
