Yes, it's another anime thread. Sorry, just ignore if you want to.

I've recently been recommended to start watching anime. And... well I don't have much else to occupy my time with nowadays so I decided to give it a shot.

A friend of mine told me I should check out Bleach. So I did and so far I'm actually very much enjoying it (bear in mind I'm not even 10 episodes yet) but I feel I'm gonna need something else for when the thing eventually ends, or for when I get bored of it and wander off.

I've been given recommendations for Death Note and Reborn! but I'm not too sure about those ones as it stands.

So does anyone here know of any other anime stuff that I might potentially be interested in watching? Or just any good stuff in general?

Go to escapist search engine. Search - Anime Suggestions, Anime Reccomendations. Reccomend me an anime. Suggest me an anime. Good Animes. Anime of specefic tastes. Anime Reviews. Anime groups. And ofc, You can google Anime Lists. On the Anime websites you can see Ongoing anime, some have animes rated by the public with a 1-5 star system. Or you can just start your own thread.

Currently watching Soul-Eater (Just to contribute something to the thread)

First off, you are a couple hundred episodes from finishing Bleach, so good luck.

Second, watch Baccano! It my all time favorite, and several other escapists have and will recommend it. English dub is pretty stellar too. EDIT: It is pretty violent though, so there is that.

Watch the Dragonball series. Best animes ever! (Especially DBZ)
Or you could watch other good animes like:

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Death Note
Code Geass - Highly recommended, but only has 2 seasons.
Reborn
One Piece
Bleach - I see you're already watching this one.
Naruto
Kore wa Zombie desu Ka?
Full Metal Alchemist

Death note is great. I've yet to meet a single person - anime interested or not - who hasn't been hooked in by the first couple of episodes.

Warning though, it does get worse around the halfway-point. It's a pity reallly.
I feel it is also worth mentioning that Death note is probably the series in the world which has the largest yaoi fanbase.

Anyways:
Clannad and Clannad after story is very very good. Both for comedy and story. Just watch it.
Code Geass is pretty good, particularly if Death note suits your tastes.
Want something more western? Try Cowboy bebop.
Want comedy? Azumanga daioh never fails.
Angel beats is good. Mostly for story, but somewhat for comedy too.
Welcome to the NHK is a great story. Recommended.
The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is interesting and funny. (Make sure to watch the episodes in the original broadcast order.
If you want some over the top action where logic takes a spectator seat and drills: Go for Tengen toppa Gurren lagann (which incidentally is available on youtube)
And lastly, if you just want plain madness that's actually deeper and more interesting than you think: FLCL. I highly recommend this series too. It's only 7 episodes.
Oh, and Elfen lied is sort of interesting too.

I'd recommend Lucky star and K-ON too, but I think you'd need to be an avid anime-watcher to enjoy them. Actually, scratch that. That only goes for lucky star. Try K-ON on for size if you feel like watching cute girls fool around (not in a sexual way)

Mind you, none of these anime I've mentioned are the neverending One piece/Naruto/Bleach kind with hundreds of episodes. (Don't watch naruto by the way)

Not into anime at all, so I'm going to go against the norm and say "Learn an Instrument"

But seeing as I have to recommend an anime, my little brother watches Full Metal Alchemist and speaks highly of it

Code Geass was the first anime I really reslly really loved, so I stongly recommend it.
Of course, it all depends on what you like. Lucky Star, Shakugan no Shana, Kamen no Maid Guy, One Piece, K-on, Kannagi, Sasameki Koto, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu are all good animes, but I have no idea if you'll like them.

Depends what you like

Code Geass-good mecha
Baccaon-just awesome, sometime hard to understand but worth it
Higurashi-Very blood, but has interesting plot
Fullmetal Alchemist- basically a classic
Cowboy Bebop-is a classic
Clannad- the only anime EVER to make me cry...twice
Hellsing-bloody not to much on the plot side but awesome
Welcome To the NHK-underrated dramedy (comedy and drama) kind of for the older watcher
Death Note-do i really have to explain this one
FLCL-very short, funny, and really has no point to it but good none the less

Wow, this is amazing. Once again somebody asks for advice, and once again loli-avatars pop up and advise some stinking piles of ghetto shit like Naruto and Bleach (an insufferable waste of time conveyed through insultingly cheap animation).
K-On, Azumanga, Angel beats, Witchblade. What. The. Shit. Is wrong with you, people.

Just had to say it. I'm not some ignorant hater, though. But I don't think I have a right to suggest anything after that.

Have you tried Elfen Lied? Great series, although it's extremely gory and depressing. It's a fairly short series at only 20-some-odd episodes, but it makes up for it with an engrossing plot along with decent, if sparse, action scenes.

Trigun is awesome, too. It's like a blend of a sci-fi novel and a western. The backstory of the characters Vash and Knives was what hooked me, but the gunplay and supporting cast is also great. It's a pretty appealing series if it suits your tastes. Also, see if you can find the appearance(s) of the black cat in each episode.

Also, Death Note. It's my favorite anime of all time, and can you really blame me?

Cliché list, but still a handful of good ones nonetheless.
P.S.: They may have already been mentioned.

Record of Lodoss War: Fairly common fantasy storyline, but one I've always enjoyed, anyway.
BASTARD!!: Campy, sensationalized, short and full of references to music and other mediums. It's a bit of an acquired taste, but if you enjoy "So Bad It's Good" items, give it a watch.
Cowboy Bebop: The storyline and characters are pretty memorable. This is my old standby that I missed a chance on buying a box set for and have had trouble finding since. Sure, I might be able to pick it up on eBay or maybe even Amazon, but I'm a physical store geek.

EDIT: I noticed someone mentioned Berserk, as well. Great little series.

Others have spouted some of my Favourites, but some others are:

Ghost in the Shell: good if you want modern action and political/spiritual/philisophical debate all in one.

Wolf's Rain: weird but nice.
Desert Punk: if you like Trigun/Bebop DP is good.

But I would Reccomend Fullmetal Its a good, starter not to... umm Japanesey (if thats a word)

Since you like Bleach you could try to watch these similar animes like Naruto (Ninja theme), One Piece (Pirate theme) or Fairy Tale (Wizard theme).
While they are similar to Bleach but it's the characters, humour and stories that make each of them stand out.
