I was recently walking through a local used game shop when I came across several titles older titles on PS2 & XBOX that while I've heard of before, never got around to playing. That got me to thinking that I need to start making a list of games that I want to go back and play eventually. Especially since I should be starting my career within the coming year and will have a regular flow of income (hopefully!).

So I would love your suggestions for quality games, mostly from the previous console generations. I only have a PS2 & Xbox 360, though I might have a decent PC soon-ish. I'm open to basically any genre as well.

Here's what I have so far:

Lunar 1 Silvar Star Story - PS1
Lunar 2 Eternal Blue - PS1

Max Payne 1 & 2 - Xbox

The Suffering - PS2
Syberia 1 & 2 ? XBOX - Found a copy of #1!

Vagrant Story (PSX) + Digital download
Viewtiful Joe - PS2

If you would be so kind as to also put what platform it was released for, that would greatly help me in my search. [I'll be updating my list every so often so that the same games aren't getting listed too many times.

Already played Timesplitters 2 & Future Perfect, but thanks! And I agree. I enjoyed FP way more than #2. Mostly because the story & characters are better and more fun.

I looked up Jet Set Radio Future and it sounds kind of like Tony Hawk games, only with in-line skates and an actual story. That close-ish?

Persona 3&4 for the PS2
Shadow of the Colossus and ICO for PS2
I've heard about the Persona as well as Shadow and ICO games but have never seen a copy on a shelf anywhere. From what I've heard, it's because of how good the games are that hardly anyway would want to get rid of it. Thanks for the help!

Viewtiful Joe
Katamari Damacy/We Love Katamari
Rez
Gitaroo Man

In case you have a PS3 you can get the ICO HD bungle for a very fair price. As far as Persona games go, they're readily available for quite cheap on Amazon, the last time I checked at least.

On a side note, you might want to narrow down your criteria, since depending on your preferences there're tons of playworthy games from the time frame you're looking for.

Honestly I'm okay with this list becoming a mile long. That may mean I won't be able to play them all for a very long time, but at least I'll have a list. I'm really open to any genre.

I've heard of the Katamari games from a friend before and they sound like fun. I've also heard of but know nothing about Viewtiful Joe. And the other games you listed I'd have to look up. But thanks!

I've heard of this series and I think I even played a for the original Soul Reaver way back in the day. It was a disc with a bunch of game demos on it - Tomb Raider, some racing game, Soul Reaver, and a few others. I can't really remember much about it though. What are the games like?

Gameplay-wise, basically 3rd person hack-n-slash with a few simple block puzzles. The real gem of the series is in its story, IMO.

I was reading up a little bit about the series on Wikipedia and the story does sound pretty interesting. I'll have to keep my eye open for them

Nice list I have played most of them and they are pretty good (some excellent) other ones off the top of my head:-

Shadow of the colossus (PS2)
Ico (PS2)
Stranger Wrath (xbox but also digital download now) the xbox game is not playable on the 360 unless they have changed it in the last 6 months (unlikely).
Zone of Enders (PS2)
FFVI (PSX) + (SNES)
Vagrant Story (PSX) + Digital download
Crash Team Racing (PSX) + DD
Devil May Cry (PS2) if you havent played it yet.
Parappa the rapper (PSX)

Like how you have Gitaroo Man up there most people havent heard of it but I love that game it wont set the world on fire but it is great fun (although not the best game on the list by far).

For PS2, two RPGs that I enjoyed were: Star Ocean 3: Til the end of Time
It's in English, but the trailer is JP. Couldn't find an English one.

Rogue Galaxy

For PS1,
Lunar 2 Eternal Blue
And Lunar 1 Silver Star Story Complete.

Killer7, for goodness sake, get Killer7...
And word of advice, Gamecube version is better than the PS2 version!

Final Fantasy VIII IX - PS1
Just needed to fix a slight typographical error I noticed in the list.

Also for the PS2 I recommend the Ratchet & Clank games and the Sly Cooper games, and the Spyro games on the PS1.

Do NOT get the Spyro games for the PS2. They were made by another developer, and it really shows through.

On http://www.gog.com you can find a lot of amazing PC classics. For me Heroes of Might and Magic III Complete is a must have if anything, the controls and gameplay should not pose any difficulty for new players either. So what are you waiting for? Go play one of the absolute best damn game ever made... EVAR! ;D

Ah thanks for changing that for :p Was that the one that was online? Or am I thinking of XI?

I've played a demo for one of the old Spyro games on a PS1 demo disc a looooooooong time ago and really enjoyed. Sadly I lacked the funds back in those days to buy my own games and thus forgot about it. Definitely going to add that back to the list.

I've checked out the site and I agree there are a lot of great games to be found there. Sadly, I lack a running PC to play them. But I shall keep it in mind for when I do!

Isn't there a current gen Star Ocean game out there? I thought I remembered seeing it on a shelf somewhere. It looked interesting enough I thought about renting it once. Does it continue the story of the Star Ocean game you mentioned?
